ParticipantOreo is your id listed on the member directory?

MemberWell Oreo if you had been in chat within the last few months you would notice that yahoo does indeed have male porn bots now, and the bots have become better programmed so that they now try to hold small conversations by focusing on key words. Anyways, I too have had this problem with strange names trying to be added to my list and it does indeed look like its people who have my name on their list but I have for whatever reason deleted them or never added them, but it is indeed a good way to see who may have you on their list. And I love the new ignore, when you ignore a name you can also send a message to yahoo reporting the name as spam, I’m thinking yahoo did this to help control the bot situation.
Ive also been made aware of an issue with webcam use with beta 7. It seems now whenever u change your preferences on cam invites(either allow everyone, or show all requests to view or auto allow certain people and ignore everyone else) and your cam is on, the people already viewing u get a new invite. Not sure what this is all about.
Ive also noticed that now in chat you cannot click on a name in the room list and put that person on follow. You can still use join user in chat but follow user is gone and that kind of sucks, especially when you have a couple of friends online with you and you all want to surf rooms together and I’ve noticed that voice chat is hard to control. If you turn it on in one room then shut if off , then go to another room it automatically turns back on.
This is a beta version of course and with any luck yahoo will address certain issues before they release the final version.(One can dream I suppose)June 22, 2005 at 2:08 pm #102408amy_d_g

MemberHi,
Just installed YM 7 Beta and the ‘call computer’ button is disabled. I know the ‘known issues’ says
—
If your Call button is not enabled, your network settings may be denying traffic on port 5061.
—Any ideas how to troubleshoot this? I’m running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 1200.
Thanks.

MemberSounds to me like your on some kind of network. If it’s yours (which I doubt otherwise you’d know what to do lol) you just need to login to the router cpanel and open that port (5061) for Yahoo!, and also to let your personal firewall know that it’s ok for data to pass through that port if it’s from Yahoo!.
Well you also said you’re on XP so you might have SP2 which has the Windows Firewall enabled automatically…you can open that on the WIndows XP firewall by going to control panel/windows firewall and going to the exceptions tab, then click the add port button. Name it like Y!Call and in the second text box put 5061.
For TCP or UDP I think UDP is what you want (your post didn’t specify if Yahoo! said which one) but it may not matter which type. Then click ok close it all and retart Yahoo! completely. If it still doesn’t work see if you’re connecting to Yahoo! using the no proxies option instead of something like “firewall with no proxies” ect.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Nick. I added a port in the firewall, and changed my YM connection option to ‘no detection’. The button is now enabled. Havent’ tested a call yet.

MemberNo problem…wow everyone, it looks like Yahoo! now censors curse words in chat rooms now as well:

MemberI installed the 7.0 (Beta), but i does not show the buttons properly (Add, Send Instant Message, Call computer, etc.), the text below these buttons is hidden behind the contacts list window!

This option is turned off by default when you install messenger 7.

MemberI have a silly question. How the hell do you do Voice Chat with your friend using the new Yahoo Messenger 7.0 beta, in your message box? Is there any way?
July 5, 2005 at 8:24 pm #102471Eagle_Kiwi
MemberHi Neo,
It should be easy (which leaves me wondering why the question!?).The actual 1-on-1 voice chat that used to be done via IM window has been replaced by the “Call” function, which works only between both people using the Beta version.
But to voice with someone still across on version 6, use the unchanged Conference function – right-click your friend, then under More Actions click Invite To Conference. Ensure that Enable Voice Chat is checked, then INVITE.
Both methods work fine for me and many friends – good luck. 🙂

MemberOh thanks Kiwi. I thought the call button is for callig a computer, thats VOIP. I have another question, suppose, I have Yahoo Messenger 7.0 and my friend has Yahoo Messenger 6, is it still possible to have the voice chat using the call function?

No you cannot, when you try to it will say your buddy is using an older version of YAHOO_MESSENGER lol it’s weird. It says that even if you’re on the old and your friend’s on the new.
