MemberHi all.
I’ve found you cannot tell with friends who are currently OFFLine, but for those ONLine in MOST cases I can figure whether or not they have Beta.Either -A- open IM window, and if they HAVEN’T got Beta it’ll tell me “xxx is using a different version – certain features unavailable”. If it DOESN’T say that, then they HAVE got the Beta.
Or -B- (quicker!) just right click the person. If they have Beta then all options are there – if they haven’t then some options (e.g. Call Computer) will be greyed out.HOWEVER… it’s not quite that simple! I have about 6 friends I know HAVE got the Beta. In each case the above tests apply.
BUT, when I apply those tests to other online friends, most show as non-Beta (probably correctly), but a FEW show as Beta, yet when I contact them they obviously HAVEN’T got it… haven’t even heard of it in most cases! Is this a bug ? Am I assuming too much ? And mainly, is there any way to work around this ??
(Sure, I could IM them and ask, but with hundreds that is not practical. It would be ideal if I could TRUST what I find just by checking each one as above).June 6, 2005 at 4:12 pm #102396Raza

ParticipantUse a download manager to sustain the segments of your download
getright is one
download accelerator is another
then use it on http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr7/us/ymsgr7_247_us.exe

MemberWelcome to BBB
Atrus it is possible somthing did not install correctly. It would probably be a good idea to uninstall yahoo messenger thru you add/remove programs list. Then goto C:/ Program Files/ Yahoo! and delete the Yahoo! folder. (note: if you have archive’s you want to save back them up before deleting the Yahoo! folder). Once the folder is deleted reboot your computer and install a fresh copy of yahoo messenger…
hope that helps

MemberWell, this is not exactly the topic everyone is on at the moment, but it has to do with Beta 7.0. I looked around and did not find this discussed anywhere, but is anyone else noticing odd people suddenly trying to add them? I have a feeling it might have to do with when one upgrades to Beta (at least I remember this) one is asked if one wants to send inivitations to specific people.
I am just guessing here, but I think it means that you have those people on YOUR list but they do not have YOU on their list. Has anyone else noticed this? Could this be a way to figure out who has you on their lists and FINALLY be a way to ignore them?June 20, 2005 at 12:20 pm #102406amy_d_g

Now not so many, but then every few days I’ll get 3 or 4. I don’t think it has anything to do with having them on your list as you said, because these are people I have never had a conversation with or ever heard of, and they aren’t on my list.

ParticipantWell ,
i know a select number of porn bots will try and add you now.
if this is the weird names you speak of then thats it.
if not…perhaps yahoo beta is more wonky.

I have not even chatted in Yahoo! since I don’t know when. When I did chat, it was in the days when people could add without permission VERY easily. I am pretty sure that’s it because I used to chat in foreign language rooms and they are foreign names trying to add me. It’s one of those things that makes me think. They could always be porn bots like Dermot said…but I’ve never seen a male porn bot in my life.

I doubt they are porn bots. I never go in chatrooms either, and I have never even (knock on wood) gotten an im from a bot… or am i just lucky?
