Memberi cant sign into msn messenger 5 or 6, it seys
We where unable to sign you into .NET messenger service, possibly because of a problem with the service or with your internet connecion. Please make sure that you are connected to the internet.
I am deffinatly conected to the internet, i use NTL broadband and have cheaked my comp for virus’ including the bugbear, which i dont have, i have also tried various different solutions posted on this forum but none have worked. Is anyone else having this problem? and does anyone have a solution?
thanksSeptember 6, 2003 at 3:33 pm #95724dayski
MemberIm also on ntl and have had problems with msn for 2 days now, i have been advised to go thru a proxy server, which has allowed me to use yahoo sites which i cudnt use but still wont let me sign into msn. I know of at least 5 ppl in my area (using manchester cache) who are also having problems but ntl say there are no known problems, i have tried about 10 different proxy addresses but none work. I have also been told that it may have summit to do with this virus and cos this virus uses the same port (135) as yahoo and msn that is the problem and maybe ntl have not patched their server, if anyone knows anymore cud they please help as im desperate.

Memberim from manchester using NTL, all my mates from around here on NTL cannot access any yahoo or msn services. It looks like the Manchester cache blocks the port that MSN and Yahoo use.
I have tried routing through another server, and yahoo.com, msn.com and hotmail.com all work.
I dont know how to work the proxy settings in MSN, if i find that out, then MSN Messanger will also work. For details on how i changed my proxy server, and a list of NTL/Blue Yonder proxy servers, goto: https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6250
Thanks

MemberOk, NONE of these solutions have worked so far. This computer is running Windows XP Home Edition with all the latest windows updates. I have reinstalled MSN Messenger 6, 4 times. I also made sure I had the latest update. I tried the registry fix several times and removed and re-installed Messenger after each time. This did not work. I’m all out of options now, the only thing I can do is revert to MSN 5.0. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I am going to try to sign in on my other pc running Windows 98SE with MSN 6.0 installed. I don’t know what the problem could be.
This computer does have XP’s built in firewall for dial-up…however MSN 6 has worked before with the same settings. This only started two days ago. I’m stumped 🙁

MemberHi I just asked the same quesiton you have wrote about. SO sorry about that. I did try everything you had wrote, so I guess I’ll just uninstall MSN 6.0 and try the older one again. If that doesn’t work I’ll come back and bug you. LOL. Thanks so about that.
Shell. See told you I need a lot of help. Grrrrr

MemberWell I’ve narrowed my problem down. It seems to only be occuring on my machine running XP. Msn 6 works just fine on my Win 98 machine. Not sure what the deal is but If I find a solution for XP I’ll make sure to post it here.

MemberOkay well I fixed the problem with msn messenger. I just did a reinstall of XP, which is a pure pain in the ass, but it needed to be done anyway, and now msn is back up and running once again. Another reason why I dislike microsft more and more everyday…

Membermy friend discovered that 6.0 won’t sign into my account while my internet is sending and receiving info, so i have to wait until the little computers on my task bar stop talking to each other and then sign in. then it won’t work so i have to click on sign in with another account and retype my password and click ok when the computers on my taskbar are inactive and then it will sign in. i have absolutely no idea why this is the case. before i installed 6.0 i never had problems like this.

ParticipantA member on my forum posted this. See if this works:
Quote:quote:I’ve gotten this error lots as well as my business partner…. Error 1603 refers to something to do with Internet Explorer and the many security issues along with Windows Messenger ( The version that comes with Win Xp ).If your attempting to install MSN Messenger 6, and your getting ERROR 1603… You need to Update your Internet Explorer Browser to Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 and possibly the newest patch/hotfix… You can download both IE6sp1 and the Security patches from this link

Hope this helps you out…

MemberI also have a problem signing in.
MSN Messenger 5.0 worked fine, and then I downloaded 6.0 and I can’t log in. When I try to sign in I get the following message:
“Your program is making an invalid dynamic link call to a .dll file”
When I close the message messenger shuts down.
If anyone could help me I’d really appreciate it!!!!

Rod,
Your problem is more than likely driver related. First you need to uninstall the current version of messenger that you have and either reinstall a previous version or redownload the newest version and reinstall it.It sounds to me like your installation of MSN has become corrupt, either through a bad installation or some other fashion. Your best bet is to download a fresh copy of the MSN installer, in whatever version you prefer. I hope this fixes your problem.
