hi ece!
good that your MSN 6.2 is working fine.
i hav been thinking for sometime about this , and the only possible reason I could think about your problem is related to your lan connection. maybe your routers were not working properly. were you able to get connected to the local host? if not then check your system for faults in routers.coz error 0x81000302 is related to connection fault and that could also be because of a router failure.
July 24, 2004 at 6:24 pm #95799Winston1976MemberHERE’S THE FIX!!!!!
This works, I had the same problem as all of you and tried anything you can imagine. Nothing worked untill I tried this!

This is a server side issue. Nothing you can do will fix it. ONLY microsoft can fix it. Go here:
http://messenger.msn.com/Help/contactus.aspx
or
here:
http://support.msn.com/contactus_emailsupport.aspx?productkey=messenger&ct=eformfreeAnd tell microsoft the EMAIL Address it’s happening with and tell them that your getting the 0x80004005 error code when you sign into MSN messenger and tell them you want it fixed.
It’ll take 2 days to fix.
SIGNED IN FROM ANOTHER LOCATION PROBLEM Fix:
Click Start, then Run, type “msmsgs” (without quotes) and click OK,
Click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and uncheck ‘Run this Program when Windows starts’
or ‘Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts’ (depending on version)
as well as ‘Allow this program to run in the background’ or ‘Allow Windows Messenger to run in
the background’ (depending on version).—
NORTON PERSONAL FIREWALL 2003 MSN MESSENGER SETTINGS:
You need to give MSN messenger full access.Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
Click Personal Firewall.
Click Configure.
On the Programs Tab, scroll through the Manual Program Control window.
Find MSN messenger, verify that the Internet Access setting is “Permit All”
If it is on Deny or anything else, set it to Permit All.
If you do not find MSN messenger in this list, you must create a rule to
allow this program access to the internet.ERROR 2894 with 1603
A few things can cause this error to appear.
Firstly, you’ll see this error if the RICHED20.DLL couldn’t be loaded. To solve this,
assuming you’re using a version of Windows prior to 2000 or XP, simply download the following
file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/riched20.dll and place it in your WindowsSystem
folder. If you are using Windows XP, instead of replacing the file, click Start, then Run, type “sfc
/scannow” and then click OK.Secondly, you may have the Nimda virus on your PC. You can remove it using this tool:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]c++ runtime error popping up with MSN and windows messenger+also why you might get signed in at another location
Do you have Norton Antivirus installed? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a new
“instant messaging scanning” feature, which can conflict with Messenger and cause this
behavior. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in the
System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose ‘Open Norton Antivirus’), click Options,
then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger and click OK.PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAY ON HOTMAIL AND MSN MESSENGER WON’T SIGN IN
1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly — double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.2. Check your IE Security settings — open Internet Explorer, click the TOOLS menu, then
INTERNET OPTIONS, then click the ADVANCED tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that “Check for server certificate revocation” is UNCHECKED(if it’s CHECKED then UNCHECK IT). Also verify that ‘Use SSL 2.0′ and Use SSL 3.0’ are CHECKED(if there UNCHECKED then CHECK them) then click OK.3. Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
(don’t forget the “SPACE” between regsvr32 and softpub.dll)
then click OK
Then try signing into MSN Messenger and the Hotmail website again.
SIGN INTO MSN messenge service using your BROWSER:
It’s FREE
Windows Messenger
Double click msmsgs.exe nothing happens:Download and run these .reg files in the affected account:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablewindowsmessenger_user.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablemessenger.reg
After running these, reboot and then try opening Windows Messenger again. When I log into Outlook Express I get the following
message ‘MSNMSGR caused a general protection fault
in module at 0000:011601f1.As a quick fix to this, close Outlook Express, then download and run the following .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe_9x.regAfter this, restart Outlook Express and you shouldn’t receive the message.
0x81000306 HELP
1.From the Internet Explorer menu, click “Tools” and
then click “Internet Options”.
2. In the “Internet Options” dialog box, open
the “Connections” tab.
3. Click “LAN Settings”.
4. Clear the “Automatically Detect Settings” checkbox.
5. Click “OK” to save the setting and then click “OK”
again.1. On the “Tools” menu, click “Options”.
2. On the “Connection” tab, be sure the “I use a
proxy server” check box is clear. Because only certain
proxy servers require this, do not select this option
unless your network administrator tells you to do so.0x81000303 ERROR FIX:
FIXES
VERY FIRST ONEClick Start, then Run, and enter the following:
regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK
(DONT FORGET THE “SPACE” BETWEEN regsvr32 and softpub.dll)1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly — double click the
clock verify that the time and date are set.2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it
in with the correct case (uppercase or lowercase).3. Change your password here:
http://memberservicesnet.passport.com/memberservice.srf
to something smaller (under 10-12 characters)
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ),
it’s possible that Messenger doesn’t have the correct rights to access the Internet,
especially since you upgraded. You may need to re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs
in your firewall if this is the case.5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking
Messenger — try restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try
uninstalling an installed firewall, to verify that it isn’t causing a problem (even if it is
disabled).6. Clear your IE cache and cookies — open Internet Explorer, click the
Tools menu, then Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that’s
complete click the Delete Cookies button.7. Check your IE Security settings — open Internet Explorer, click the
Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and
verify that “Check for server certificate revocation” is unchecked. Also verify that ‘Use SSL
2.0′ and Use SSL 3.0′ is checked, then click OK.8. On the “Tools” menu in Internet Explorer, click “Internet Options” then click on “Connections” then
click on “settings” and make sure all the 3 check boxes are UNTICKED then click OK.now try sign in
Still not working then try this:
1.Exit MSN Messenger Program completely
2.Click on Start, then Run, type: “regedit” (Without Quotes)
3.Navigate to MyComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftMSNMessenger
4.Click the MSN Messenger Key (Click Once). Go to the Edit menu and select Delete
5.Delete the MSN Messenger folder from c:Program Files (Replace C: with your system disk if it is something other than C)
6.Install MSN MESSENGER again
This fix will also work if you CAN’t sign in at all.
Also hers another fix for the error message PROBLEM WITH your INTERNET CONNECTION:
WINDOWS 98,ME
1) Click Start > Run
2) Type: %windir% and press enter.
3) Open Application Data and then the Microsoft folder.
4) Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and delete it.now try sign in
WINDOWS 2000, XP
1) Click Start > Run
2) Type: %appdata%Microsoft and press enter.
3) Right-click the MSN Messenger folder and delete it.now try sign in

October 11, 2004 at 12:10 pm #95807raaiaMemberi’ve had a lot of problems with my MSN as well, mainly not signing in (often with error 0x81000301) or not being able to reply/recieve messages from ppl. In my case it was weird cause most of the time MSN worked fine till about an hour of 4 in the afternoon and then it acted ****ty till about midnight.
But, on another forum i’ve found something that has helped me so far, 10min ago I couldn’t sign in because of those errors. I downloaded and opened the file, did a reboot and now all is working well. I could sign in and I sent a message to someone and 5min later still no return of my messages. It’s called WinsockXPFix.exe, mainly has to do with fixing firewall/spyware things (i’m not hero whit this kind of stuf ;))
This is where I got it: http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtmHope it works for you!
