Seems to be quite a few suspended accounts on AIM lately. Lately being today. I’m investigating a bit though, I couldnt find a way to contact AIM “Customer Service” in the US, but I did find the UK website for AIM and it had a contact address, I’ve sent an email asking for either an explanation or an email address I can contact that would be able to tell me. My account was one that has been suspended, and I have followed all rules, unless talking to your friend is now against TOS *smirks*. Seems like there is either a database malfunction, or some passwords have been stolen and used maliciously. If I recieve any response *crosses fingers* I will post here with the details. I am interested in seeing who else has had this same problem though, I’ve found about a half dozen accounts of this by doing a Google search.

hydrogen_wvQuick update:
While waiting for the activation email for the forums here, I did further research, and apparently a lot more people than I thought have been having these problems, and they have been mainly in the past 2 days. A few people have reported such as “5 out of my 6 screen names…”.
This is absolutely revolting, IMO. I’m not exactly worried about the screen name itself, but I have no way of retrieving my buddy list.December 7, 2004 at 1:13 am #107805BMoffaMemberTHANK GOODNESS.. This is the first website I’ve found with some answers. I experienced the same thing today! Luckily it wsa an “alternate” name and not the main one I use but I was SO confused as to why it was suspended — I hope there are answers to this ASAP!!!
**also — I stupidly called AOL, just in case, but of course since they’re not affiliated they can’t help. Furthermore, the guy on the phone told me no one is really responsible for AIM – which can’t be the case because someone controls something – somewhere!! But it is aggravating because I cannot sign onto one of my names…
December 7, 2004 at 1:25 am #107791lbb87MemberI just used the UK AIM website to send them an email prior to reading this post. I also sent two emails to AOL yesterday. I sent them to two different addresses but I don’t know what they were right now.
If you go to http://www.aol.com/support/livehelp.adp they have live online help. I haven’t tried it and I don’t know if it would work for free members. Until I find out what happened I don’t think I’m going to be using AIM for awhile, just to be on the safe side. That’s alright, never did like it anyway.
December 7, 2004 at 1:28 am #107806BMoffaMemberWell isn’t the problem there that AOL won’t help, live or not? When I called AOL they said they are not affiliated with AIM, so they have no control. My SN is purely AIM – I haven’t had AOL in years and when I did the screen name was different.. it’s not like I have an account with AOL… The guy told me there’s nothing they can do about AIM problems…
**update — check out http://www.xkot.net/archives/001911.html — a lot of people seem to be saying that its AOL taking away these names because of past accounts?? But there again, some people were NEVER affiliated with AOL — this doesn’t make sense? It has to be some sort of corruption, right?
December 7, 2004 at 2:45 am #107799Hydrogen_wvMemberI’m glad to see so many replies, and glad to see that other people have made an effort to find the problems as well. I also had an AOL account before, but with a seperate screen name. Maybe there is some correlation between this… Maybe the name on the account? Maybe the address?
This brings up a new question… Is there anyone with the same problem that has not used AOL in the past? It seems like an unlikely explanation, but anything is possible.
December 7, 2004 at 2:51 am #107800Hydrogen_wvMemberSome progress may have finally been made, I used the AOL Livehelp, and I got an actual AIM Support email address… [email protected] – Sending an email as we speak…
I will post any info I get…
December 7, 2004 at 3:05 am #107807BMoffaMemberI will send an email too, it can’t hurt!
thanks for keeping us updatedDecember 7, 2004 at 7:40 am #107809ShatteringImageMemberI only joined to thank you guys for making this thread I e-mailed them and bugged reported….. and I have never been affiliated with AOL so it shouldnt bother my account….
December 7, 2004 at 12:46 pm #107810debbyldMemberI used my account on Thursday the 2nd. Haven’t been able to get on since. Called AOL, they gave me a nonworking telephone number. Called back, got another telephone number. It kept saying that there was trouble on the line until last night.
Now it is disconnected! I went to the trouble to fill out a report to ask why, when I saw the checkbox stating that I realize this is not for support and that I will not receive a reply. I have been searching the web to see if anyone else has had the same problem. My friends get on fine. If anyone has any suggestions as how to get in touch with these people, let me know. This is soooo frustrating!
Thanks for the email addres. That is my next stop.
December 7, 2004 at 9:49 pm #107812FeegoreMemberThanks for all the tips guys. Same thing happened to me, I tried to sign in after getting kicked off, but it said that my sign on was blocked. I’m confused because it worked a little while ago, and I haven’t done anything to breach the terms of agreement. And when I tried to verify my age, it wouldn’t let me. Thanks you for you help. And I just emailed them.
December 7, 2004 at 11:08 pm #107816ISLANDMANMemberi heard you were kicked off if you didn’t sign on for 60 days
December 7, 2004 at 11:26 pm #107801Hydrogen_wvMemberThat’s true, but that’s not the problem here. Most people that had their accounts suspended over the past couple days use AIM daily, or at least weekly. I have yet to get a reply from the AIMSupport email address. It’s been nearly 24 hours since I sent the email, and i’m sure they are not bogged up with emails that bad, especially considering that the address is not posted on the website, and I got lucky and a guy on the AOL Livehelp gave it to me. I guess it’s just the waiting game now….
*Taps fingers pantiently*

ChrisDecember 7, 2004 at 11:35 pm #107817spitfireMemberI’m also suspended, and I have never had an AOL account in my life. If they are indeed doing some house cleaning, it’d at least be nice of them to put some notification up -somewhere- to let us know what the fuznuck is going on and what the criteria is for suspension. If nothing else, it’d keep the “WHY IS MY ACCOUNT SUSENDED!??!?!!?” emails they receive to a minimum.
Good work, AOL.
December 8, 2004 at 12:39 am #107820Imperial_WicketMemberI have been having the same problem, with four different screen names. None of them are attached to an AOL account (actually the one SN I do have that is attached to AOL account works fine), and two of them I hadn’t even used in over a year. I found this page by doing a search, and I’m also finding a lot of other people that this is happening to. About the AIM support email address, I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t get a response, it could very well be a fake/not monitored email, because when I called AOL technical support they gave me a fake/disconnected phone number. It seems likely that since there are a decent number of us having this problem, and that for everyone the problem seems to have started around Dec. 4, that this is some kind of bug or malfunction. Since that is the case, anyone who is having this problem should go to the “Report a Problem” section on AIM.com and fill out a form. It’s not tech support, and you won’t get a response, but the more people they hear from, the more likely they are to try to fix this.
December 8, 2004 at 8:10 am #107821ilh948MemberI joined to tell I have had the same problem. I have not done anything wrong and have not been part of the aol network ever. I used my account b4 the forth just fine. today I tried getting on and I was suspended. I would easly just creat a new screen name, except I dont know any of my buddies screen names.
