Because the science fair has so many dang rules that keep you from doing most fun things I got stuck with studying the effects of sleep deprivation. So my friends and I stayed up for 3 days straight, with the aid of coffee and chocolate, and that kind of thing. On the last day we started having illusions! At first it was just thinking that we saw something in the corner of our eyes, but by the time we could no longer stand being awake it was crazy. I remember staring at a brown paper bag for about and hour just sitting there, thinking it was my cat. The point is, lack of sleep makes you crazy!

The longest amount of time I’ve been without sleep has been 50 hours. It was during the huricane Hortense emergency, during that time I worked with Puerto Rico Emergency Manegement Agency.

ah yes the classic hallucinations… I remember studying that sort of thing in my psych class last semester, and no one believed that i’d had the same sort of thing happen to me – they thought I was making it up… no you really do start to see things that arent there, you get slap happy, you stare alot, etc
except actually our brains do force us into “microsleep” – short 2-3 second periods of sleep that we’re basically unaware of since its so short, which is why we can stay up that long in the first place
June 30, 2004 at 8:17 am #42881BrianMemberWhen I was residing in Tennessee, I was up for four or five days with no winks. I think that was when my cousin Jason was staying over with me for several days.

July 7, 2004 at 5:31 am #42926foleyMemberwell, personally, right now is my record. i’ve been up for 32 hours. it’s not much compared to others, but my friend’s record is about 40 days. yes, 40 days. it turns out that she suffers from insomnia. and all this time, I thought it was from the excessive work load. that’s how she always had the better presentation, grr 😡
i wonder how long she slept afterwards
July 7, 2004 at 8:19 pm #42914Crazy PenguinMember40 days is physically impossible surely?
Wouldn’t you be dead if you didn’t sleep for 40 days? or at least insane?
July 7, 2004 at 9:44 pm #42903ChanellothParticipantYour right it is impossible You would not go insane your body would just shutdown and go not wake up

Heh thats nothing. When I was awake for the almost 5 days,We were playing outside and I almost killed myself in the pool (just almost sleeping on the bottom) and I kept o running into the fences and trees. When I finallyslept I woke up with four bruises and cuts on my arms 😀
July 8, 2004 at 10:18 pm #42908Red DevilMemberMy record is 24 hours, not much compared to some of you on here… lunatics 😉
What can I say? Im lazy! 😀
40 days without sleep is physically impossible. Im pretty sure I heard that no sleep for two weeks will kill you so 40 days… no way!
July 9, 2004 at 5:25 am #42927foleyMemberit is possible. her record is around 40 days but most times it is around three weeks.
its all due in the insomnia thingpersonally, I think she’s a “super-human” because she is also super flexable and she was born without the sense of smell, so I am scared/puzzled about her.
and when I say super flexable, I mean, when she does splits, instead of her legs being straight, they look more like a “v”
July 9, 2004 at 5:35 am #42897TigerbladeParticipantno, really, its physically impossible to entirely deprive the body of sleep for that long. unless you had a video camera watching her 24/7 for that whole time, she had to sleep for at least a few hours every once in a while, insomnia or not. she would be dead otherwise… ask a doctor.
July 9, 2004 at 6:34 am #42892BookieMemberYeah, I’ve heard of this girl. She has bones made out of Titanium, her skin is super elastic, and she can communicate with animals. Her arch-nemesis is Slothman who is disguised as a 22 year-old who lives with his parents and who, when not putting his part-time hours in at Wendy’s, sleeps 18 hours a day and gorges himself on corn chips and gummy worms. Her “kryptonite” is alcohol, Thanksgiving dinner, and long lectures about the process of photosynthesis. In the event she is stricken with sleep she will wake up several days later in a puddle of drool with colorful, hand-drawn markings on her face.
July 9, 2004 at 10:00 pm #42928BraaropolisMemberI’ve never gone more than 24 hours solid…I don’t know how I could either withouth something to distract me the whole time.
