June 5, 2003 at 3:46 am #95425NhyrvanaMemberif ytunnel is illegal ~ it is for copyright and trademark issues……..
3rd party clients are a way of life on yahoo since 1998… and any new client done/marketed correctly can exist with out raging the y-lawyers….. yahelite, ychat, cheeta chat, and a dozen or more small clients and then a half dozen wanna bees and nuisence clients are all used on yahoo to chat……….
then there are dozen or more advert bots M-Y-S-T and geoff have written and sold, …. but that is FOR YAHOO TO DEAL WITH>>>> j_hop. you want this >>>>>> http://docs.yahoo.com/info/copyright/copyright.htmlj_hop since you raised the issue…… the people I find know the least about chat are those who have gone to school for computers ………
i deal with “certified webmasters” who dont know how to get listed on google, or worse. UNBANNED on google…. and MSCE who do computers who dont know about firewalls, online email safety, or the very basics about common issues chatters encounter….. ( for example ~ if my chat screen wont scroll. what operating system am i running , whats the problem, and whats the fix? )
in fact i know some UNSCHOOLED chatters who could probably run circles around bill gates himself…..
finally….
i have my own reasons for not using or endorsing ytunnel ~ but ill play fair.. you post your reasons…. ill post mine…June 5, 2003 at 3:47 am #95412magistykMemberj_hope_99, a college degree does not prove anything. Stop talking as if you are smarter than all of us. Does Yahoo!, Trillian, AIM, etc connect to the internet? YES. It uses ports as well, and you can find someone else’s IP.
June 5, 2003 at 3:55 am #95439j_hop_99Memberwell if im wrong u tell me ,but u know im not if its legal or not leaves ur system open and thats never good make sure u have a great firewall if u run tunnel…..and i just want the newbies to know that it can be trouble…..but still java chat is almost as good people just dont bother with booters for it any more and yes id like to see the bots all gone and chat like it use to be no more booting and bs but thanks for and intellegent reply nhyrvana…………lol reese what are u on any program that has ever been written can be decompiled man u kids need to go to class….

June 5, 2003 at 4:00 am #95423NhyrvanaMemberim still waiting for him to answer what i posted.. * screen wont scroll in chat…….( no helping from the audience here )
what os am i using and whats the prob and fix? *June 5, 2003 at 4:07 am #95424NhyrvanaMemberno? k…. a common issue on all chats and messengers is the failure of the screen to scroll.
Some systems with the OS – Win/98 SE have a faulty RICHED32.DLL file. This will replace the file and solve your scrolling problem. RICHED32.dll to be exact…….
Recently MS also issued a second Riched update for WinME and XP……
~*~ learned that in chat ~*~June 5, 2003 at 4:14 am #95408Jeff HesterKeymasterQuote:quote:Originally posted by j_hop_99never claimed to be smarter then any of u but u cant even spell my screen name lol magistyk
Maybe not, but you keep reminding us of your college degree, as if that somehow makes you unique! Welcome to the club, junior.
Too bad you didn’t learn how to spell in college. For future reference, “u” is spelled “y-o-u.” Intelligent people take the time to communicate with actual words and complete sentences.

Oh for the love of god! This mass hysteria over terrorism has got to stop. Look, do you honestly think there are terrorists sitting around in yahoo chat, waiting for someone’s open port, so they can take over their computer and errr… “do destruction”?
FYI i checked my ports (80 & 81) and they are both closed despite y!tunnel. Anyone worried, can in addition to y!tunnel also run a firewall.
June 5, 2003 at 11:40 am #95467freddyMemberWhen Y!Tunnel was first appearing, too many people decided it was dangerous, i.e. a trojan. The reason was the misunderstanding of the term “proxy” which I contacted chet about, told him he might make it more cleared.
The people who I talked to presumed there was a central proxy server which Y!Tunnel went through, instead of actually realising, y!tunnel was the proxy on your pc, filtering out rubbish! If it was on a server somewhere, of course it could be dangerous.
Secondly, Y!Tunnel only ever sees the encrypted/hashed password that Yahoo! sends it, which is random each time you logon.
Thridly, I decided to open up a packet sniffer and monitor it for a few hours to see if there was any inappropriate connections on other ports to other servers. I found nothing.
As for the legalities, it and all 3rd party software is against the Yahoo! TOS. It means no ad revenue for a start. This doesn’t stop most of us using third party clients though, or ad blockers etc… If Yahoo! cared more, they could block clients by employing different techniques, but they don’t or haven;t.
As it acts as a proxy, it does require ports to act as servers, I once wrote a similar program to fix YahELite, the only way was to write a small proxy to re arrange the packets so yahelite would still function, I made it so it only accepts ONE connection, from 127.0.0.1, which is your own PC. I don’t know if Y!Tunnel acts in the same way.
You can decompile all programs into assembly if you wished. Would like to see you make sense of it though in less than a month :p (hehe)
Nhyrvana?
-Yahoo! Messenger doesn’t use richedit to output chat – uses a IE HTML interface.
-And he never said he was MS certified, he said he was a comp student – and like me, comp students probably dont take a module in richedit
-And you used exactly the same test on me 2/3 years ago. You should come up with a new one, and stop testing people anyway, just ’cause they don’t know that, doesn’t mean they can’t help. You only know this from hands on experience, do you know how 32 bit memory addressing works? Do you know the difference between hex, binary, octal, bits, bytes, nibbles,OR,XOR,C,C#,C++,Java,Pascal,Virtual Machine,Virtual Memory. Probably not, but does this make you less of a useful person?June 5, 2003 at 12:42 pm #95411magistykMembererr.. J_Hop_99, don’t be hypocritical…
From your earlier post:
