Blank upper IM window, I tried everything and can’t get text back until I removed and re-installed IE7.
I got same problem today. I tried to login using Pidgin and got a hint from Pidgin telling me to try login from web so after I login for Yahoo mail I can get Yahoo messenger working again.

Point the mouse to the top or bottom bar of the news window will continuously scroll the list up or down, move the mouse back to center of window to stop, item is highlighted, click to open news item in side window.
Sometimes it doesn’t work because the plug-in script is not fully downloaded or corrupted. Stop and restart the plug-in to force redownload.
If you login using you primary ID and one of your alias is active, you add a buddy using your active alias, you see him in the main list is normal because the list is for your main ID buddies and your alias budies. You won’t see your buddy in the list if you turn your alias to inactive.You won’t see buddies you added using your primary ID if you login from your alias.
The blank window? everything down under the Plug-in button is in a SlotsWnd, inside it the plug-ins and the ad window are Internet Explorer_Server class, when Y!M receives a .html for the slot it starts drawing the rectangle for IE and waits for the content script, whatever inside the little rectangle is handled by IE, in some cases IE shows error page with V and H scroll bar.

If it is between 2 IDs, yours and your friend’s: single hyphen means the communication is relayed by yahoo server, double hyphen means you are in direct communication (peer to peer) with your friend.
one of the key created by patch.reg is “Messenger Ad”=”http://noads.html”, before installing patch.reg or remove the Messenger Ad key after installing patch.reg Y!M still shows main window ad.
First name and Last name are from the address book.
I found Anti-Banner_Patch is the best patch so far by blocking Y!M from writing urls.xml in messengercache. But it still needs the Messenger ad key in windows registry.
All depend on which way you hack it, you block it from open the ad window or you block it from getting the url …external/client_ad…I tried the first way and failed. The second way is feasible to me, the 701 and 711 look for client_ad url not only in one place but also in IE temp folders, the registry and Y!M cache. When YahooMessenger.exe starts, after the login, it gets client_ad url from inserder.msg.yahoo.com/ycontent, it sends a GET packet and receives a packet with client_ad url at the end. It also get all the plug-in scripts from insider….ycontent, when you want to get a new audible it also goes to insider…ycontent. What I did is blocking it from sending a GET packet to insider.msg.yahoo.com/ycontent.
I’ll re-install a clean 711 and try Anti-Banner_Patch.
– Start Y!M after you install version 8.0.0.711, try all the plug-ins you want to use so Y!M download all the necessary scripts. [Edit] Get also all the Audibles.
– Install the registry key having * and blank html, make sure the blank html is in the folder as set in this registry key.
– Edit urls.xml to have this and set it to read-only:– Clean IE temporary folders.
– backup the original YahooMessenger.exe and replace it with the hacked exe:
Yremove or uninstall and re-install once is enough, you do it only after you modify or hack Yahoo Messenger and you fear it becomes a mess out of control. I got the”Verbiage…” popup or hang Plug-in fairly often, I stop the Plug-in and restart it to force Y!m redownload the script, it’s similar to “Refresh” on the browser and it’s fixed.
You’d better run a full test with 38 items, it only takes about 10 minutes. Do it right away when you get a hang Plug-in or sort of hiccup.

In the tracert result you get some first lines with relatively short TTL, about 40-50millisec with the IP range close to your DSL IP and after that group you get longer TTL 200-300millisec or a line with *, a sudden jump from a short TTL to a long TTL is very likely where the network is congested.
