MemberQuote:like if you have a conversation with someone can you get hacked? No. You cannot get hacked simply from having a conversation in AIM.
Quote:or if somebody sends you a file are you at risk of being hacked?I’m not 100% sure about this, but, I think you are at risk. Also, if somebody you don’t know sends you a file, it probally contains viruses.
Quote:or maybe none of this matters and you could get hacked regardless? If you don’t have a firewall, then yes. You could get hacked that way.

MemberNorton shouldn’t be a problem. Try disabling all Norton products, and see what happens.

MemberJust wondering, did you ever get your screenname back?
Clobbex
MemberSee if this helps.
Go to your AIM Preferences > Sign On/Off > Connection > Auto Configure… > OK > OK > OK > OK.
That will check to see which ports AIM can connect by. I think.

MemberYes, it is the same problem. Your AIM installation is probally C:Program FilesAIM and so is your brothers.
Try getting a new installer and installing it on a different directory. See if that helps.

MemberAnd, if you want your BuddyList back, go to C:Documents and SettingsUserNameApplication DataAim…ScreenName and open the file userinfo.bag in Notepad. Then download David’s AIM Buddylist recovery program to your desktop. Open the program and paste all the userinfo.bag information. It will reassemble your buddylist in .BLT format.

MemberI was searching Google for something. I forget what I was searching for, though.

MemberI had this problem before also. It worked when I set my modem’s firewall settings to low.

MemberRemember when you had to enter an email address when registering for a screenname? Well, enter your screenname here, and check that email address, unless the hacker changed it.
