As for the new location of the emoticons in WLM 8.1, I’m not 100% sure of that yet.
Found this on another forum…..hope it helps
Cdocuments & settings %userprofile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMessengerObjectStoreCustomEmoticons is the custom emoticon storage folder for WLM 8.1.
look in this folder

I had the same problem deleted them from here…….problem solved. Hope this helps
Whilst mooching on the internet I found another forum which gave an alternative location for the custom animations which is
Cdocuments & settings %userprofile%Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftMessengerObjectStoreCustomEmoticons is the custom emoticon storage folder for WLM 8.1.
I deleted them from this folder & they have finally gone!!!

Unfortunatley still no joy – the custom animation folders were all empty (I checked every folder). What I don’t understand though is there is another animation which works but also isn’t in the animation folder. Any other ideas??
I am having the exact same problem – I have renamed it, I have changed the picture to something else, I have removed it & I have been into the custom animation folder & deleted everything……..but it keeps coming back!!!! Does anyone know how to find out where they are stored. My daughters friend put this 1 on with a shortcut of lol – so you can see how this is causing problems
