From Mess.be:
If you thought the current MSN Messenger 7.5.0311 was the final version of MSN Messenger *ever*, you’re probably wrong. We heard through the grapevine that sometime late November or early December a QFE patch will be tested and released, fixing mainly sign in issues (QFE stands for Quick Fix Engineering, which means upgrading through a small patch instead of a 10mb setup file). This is good news for the unlucky ones recently experiencing sudden connection losses and ongoing log on failures.fishlips20
MemberEvilSeph wrote:Alright, multiple points need to be covered here. Just so you know, I’ll cover the adware last, so it leaves an impression.Firstly, to reset your MSN Messenger contact list to display by display name, do as ladie_vennom said:
1) Open MSN Messenger.
2) Go to your contact list, if you are not already there
3) Click Contacts on the menu bar (where File View etc.. are)
4) Then click on Manage Contacts
5) then View Contacts by
6) and lasty, click on Display NameThis will restore your MSN Messenger contact list to sort and display by display name.
Secondly, the reason your list was made to display by email is because Messenger Plus! enabled “Custom Contact Names” — one of it’s features, which REQUIRES your contact list to be sorted by email address, rather than display name, to function.
GENIUS!!!!
Thank you… Somehow, when i downloaded IMTiger, I had the same buddy on my list 3 times… once from AIM, once from ICQ and once from MSN…I must have changed his name, enabling MSN Plus’ custom name feature…
When i uninstalled IMTiger, and tried to sort by display name, it would work only until i minimized the screen… then it returned to e-mail addresses.
Thank you for identifying this issue… for a while there I thought I would need to reformat (I had already reinstalled MSN and MSN plus like 3 times).

MemberWhat am I missing here?
It looks identical to the current GTalk skin….
Interesting. Please feel to provide us with some ‘unique’ screenshots.

MemberOh man….. Google Talk has potential, but its missing some staples
Things it needs:
– send a file
– format text color
– display pics
– easily changeable nicks
– better emoticons
– the ability to connect to at least one other IM system (chat and voice)
– sending files to offline contacts (to their gmail account)
– maybe a little effort placed into making the interface look nice (man… i can’t stand the current look… i feel like i’m using wordpad)Thats about it.
These guys need to get their butts in gear quickly before people discount this IM and get comfy with their old ones again.

MemberSaw this same question in a different forum.
You need to go to account properties in your gmail account and change the name there….
So… if I wanted to have the nick fishlips20, all of my e-mails would now have that nick as well… there is no way to seperate the two…It sucks right now.

MemberMake sure your windows messenger isn’t set to automatically sign in… this happend to me a while ago, and it turned out Windows Messenger was running in the background.

MemberOk….
Got it to work…
There are 2 things stopping file transfers…
1) Windows Firewall (installed with SP2). To fix this, open up ports 6891-6900.
2) The New MSN Messenger 7.0.777 blocks those extension that are listed above by dtn8r… His patch works perfectly.Using the combination of these 2 fixes, you should be able to receive files from friends without a problem.
Regards, and happy file-transfering

MemberJust tried that extension program and it isn’t working…
the program allows the files to be sent, but does not start the transfer…
after about 15 seconds, the same message appears says that the file cannot be transferred…we need a real solution
fishlips20
MemberWhat the heck… i’m having the same issues….
I just got this new version today and now I can’t receive files from friends.
This is wacky….Anyone have a solution?
fishlips20
MemberI had the same issue.
I first removed all plugins (msn loader, MSN plus 3…)
I ended up moving to Windows messenger, and that kept crashing…
Then I moved to Trillian, and it wouldn’t connect to MSN.
I removed all messenger programs and removed their entries from the regstry, then reinstalled MSN messenger.
That didn’t work out. Then I tried web messenger and that wouldn’t work.
I ended up reformatting my hard disk and everything is great now.
An extreme solution, but a solution nonetheless…..
if you are frustrated, it works.fishlips20
MemberIt appears to be working sporatically….
i have service right now, but my friend (who lives next door) does not.
My girlfriend, who lives 2 blocks away has service as well….The MSN Service Status Site is still giving an runtime error message.
fishlips20
MemberI’ve been telling my friends i’ve had issues with MSN for the past few days, and no one believed me….
I guess they really didn’t have friends to talk to, and didn’t notice the change in volume of IMs.
