Memberheh… when I first started going there, the old filters used to block hotmail because it had the word “hot” in it.
BTW… they dont block any mail services anymore… I dont use anything but gmail and my ISP webmail, so I think i’d be pretty safe at your school 🙂

Well, I remember reading multiple places that it would kick you off for inactivity, and then I tried it when I went to bed the other day and wallah, it kicked me off. I hadnt stayed on but for about 3 hours.

P.S. The start menu is jacked up and all you have access to is Programs and Turn Off/Log off… on there 🙂 Oh ya and the windows key is disabled!
It’s not a big deal, but I am just telling everyone how strict my school district is. heh

As for your filter, if its blocking ports, you’ll get around it. However, if they’re doing packet sniffing, there is no way around, though I’d be impressed if a school district were employing that. You know what is funny… I tried using a different AIM thing except on a USB flashdrive this time…. put the thing in, go to open it up and the stupid drive letter doesnt show up!!!! My school’s computers are amazing…. wow… anyway I thought i’d share that info with you

MemberSeriouisly. I dont see the big hoot about your online time being so high… most people, if they see you’ve been on so long, they sometimes wonder if you actually have a life 😉
Oh yeah, and webaim signs you off after about 3 hours… the server kicks you off for inactivity after so long…. so that’s not a very good alternative.

MemberNope you cant do this… it’d be neat to have different away message for different people. But you cant do that either 🙂

MemberYeah, I never got it again when I clicked No the first time. It basically told me they were putting a menu item on the menu called “Upgrade” or something….. but since this guy’s didnt do that, I figured i’d tell him what I did on my friend’s computer… it works… haha… it’s difficult but yeah, it works.

MemberCarol wrote:thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. I checked out the palfun site – I’m a little suspicious because it’s free and the site is pretty slick – how do they make money? Plus, there is a posting on the bigblueball forum that says it’s full of spyware…not sure what to believe.I have an old smiley set from “ATP” – does that have malicious code?
thanks again!
~CarolHey Carol, I am 100% positive that middle_man has no spyware. Same with deadaim and palfun. I have been using middle_man for a long time and I have talked to the authors of the program who have assured everyone that there is no spyware. DeadAIM, since he makes you pay now, I am almost positive he wouldnt put spyware in that… Not sure about any others…
Good luck in your search!

MemberVery true. They have java classes but I am almost positive that they block java on all computers except the ones in that classroom.

Membersign up for the free service. you can have your messages forwarded to your email address or phone and it keeps your screen name on for a long time. I use this after I make a new screen name and want to announce to everyone that I no longer use that screen name. Give the free service a try…. it’s what I use and I love it!
The most it does is display an ad at the botton of your away msg and an ad for your profile, but it’s only when you are signed in through their service and not on AIM with that screen name. It’s all web-based. Enjoy
