MemberNice to see someone who shares my nostalgia for Warning Wars, lol.

MemberI’ve had similar problems with AIM in the past, only to find that other AIM users weren’t experiencing the same things. Even though it might not outwardly appear to be a problem with your local machine, it very well might be.

MemberIt’s a nice hot dog feature for sure, but as I’ve said before – AIM should focus on perfecting their core features (direct connections that just work, chatrooms that can sustain more humans than porn spamming robots, maybe even a logging feature, perhaps?) before getting their feet wet in things like 3D avatar chat. As far as the feature itself, I’m not really seeing a tangible benefit to it..I like text chat just fine, and this new avatar chat just spells more of my resources wasted as far as I’m concerned.

MemberAIM should focus on their core features (Direct Connections that work, for the most part, independent of versions and security settings, chatrooms that are able to sustain more humans than porn advertising bots, keeping advertising trojans from integrating with the software, and the list goes on and on) before turning their attention to hot dog stuff like superbuddy icons. Just my opinion.

MemberYeup..AIM upgrades (particularly 5.9) often come with all kinds of baggage and junk features that no one wants, but if you want the functionality of worthwhile features (like Direct Connections and smooth file transfers), you’ve got to bite the bullet and upgrade when new releases become availible.

MemberYeah I figured that it may have been around for a while since I’d never heard a whole lot about it, but a couple of my friends told me that they’d been infected so I figured I’d post what I could up here. Sorry for the false alarm!

MemberWhy did Macromedia make an AIM client? Just curios, it seems a little out of the ordinary for them.

MemberI usually find text identifiers decidedly easier to memorize, but I guess the ICQ numbers are just the same as memorizing a telephone number. Still though, Chris has a point – with all this new technology, there’s really no reason to still be using strings of numbers to identify ourselves. With that logic, let’s get rid of DNS and have people remember website IP addresses again. 😉

MemberI think in the future, once some profit is generated from their desktop software and re-invested back into the company, Skype will announce a deal with 01 or more cellphone makers hard-wired with Skype’s p2p telephony technology. This would mark one of the coolest innovations in recent memory – mobile hardware linked directly to the Internet using P2P, built for mainstream and even business use.
Another possible use – Skype P2P communication for internal business networks, creating a P2P network consisting of existing business machines instead of using the public Skype network.

MemberIs a cross-platform IM client with a proprietary voice protocol something of interest to many users, something they would like to see in a future piece of software?

MemberI’d like to see a small AIM plugin that alerts the user whenever an application or plugin tries to add code to AIM and change the way it functions. This way, if the next BuddyLinks tries to install itself to AIM after claiming to be a video of a terrorist leader being captured, the user is at least given some kind of warning.

MemberYou would think that what with all the AIM plugins availible today that offer logging features, AIM would just integrate one with the default installation and save users the headaches when poorly written plugins conflict with the software. Wishful thinking, I suppose!
jaycross
MemberPretty much any AIM plugin availible today gives you the option to avoid viewing the banners and stuff, this is pretty much the same thing it seems like.

MemberMy thoughts exactly. You would think some enterprising engineer would code a small server-side app that AOL could use to filter these digital demons from becoming prevalent in the chatrooms, but no such luck thus far.
