However, one could take an open source IRC bot, such as eggdrop, and manually edit the connection details, though it may break a large number of things – better to just write the yahoo bot from scratch, imo…
KlientUserMemberYou need more than administrative access, you need developer access, as the nicklen is usually set before even compiling the ircd… At least, this is true with hybrid, ratbox, and unreal…
KlientUserMemberEggdrop, Darkbot, Dancer etc… Get a shell account that allows irc bots and run one there… You’ll be much happier with the results – I’ve tried them all, from Winbot to in-client bots (written more than a few myself)… There are even windows implementations of many standalone IRC bots, but they’re a lot harder to run and maintain (and you lose the benifits of a *n?x shell)…
Eggdrop homepage and help site…
Dancer project page and dancer mod…
Darkbot main page…These are all, admittedly, a lot harder to setup for a novice than say, winbot, but they’re a lot more stable, a lot more scriptable, and have been around a lot longer (so there’s far more support for them)…
KlientUserMemberObviously, I would recommend Klient, being a registered Klient user, but I understand not everyone wants to pay for an IRC client (no matter how great it is) – but definately, take the 30 day trial; it’s well worth the IRC experience…
On a side note, I don’t recommend the use of HydraIRC… The only good thingsabout HydraIRC are that it can be run from a CD with no install on the actual machine you’re using it on and it loads nice and quickly (due to lack of features)… Other than that, it’s highly buggy (simply closing a connected server window can cause it to crash), incomplete (there’s absolutely no scripting, not to mention many missing features standard to IRC), and their support community is awful (if you don’t agree with them, they’ll often just insult you until you leave)…

I haven’t used Klient. I’ve used mIRC but I can’t really compare to something I haven’t used before. Tell me more about Klient.;)I don’t think ZLink has used Klient, either; however, he neglected to mention it…
Well, you want to know more about Klient… Klient is an IRC client written in Delphi by a single developer that isn’t as well known as it should be… Klient had multi server support before mIRC did… Klient allows scripting in 5, count them, 5 scripting languages… You can script it in VBScript, JScript, and PerlScript in the currently available 2.0.16… The soon to be released 2.1.x branch adds support for Ruby and Python scripting…
So HOW is mIRC scripting more versatile than Klient scripting..? mIRC scripting is totally different from Klient scripting, in that mIRC scripting uses an embedded “language” created by Khaled and Klient uses actual scripting languages… The skills you gain in scripting in Klient are portable to other applications, since you’re using *real* scripting languages… Seems a lot more versatile to me…
Klient has been hailed as one of the most configurable and best looking IRC clients around… Let’s face it – mIRC has been using the same basic interface since 1995… Klient’s interface is up to date, easy to use, and neatly configurable to your needs…
Like mIRC, Klient is shareware… Klient installs with a 30 day trial, and registration costs roughly $25 USD, and is good for life…
