I haven’t, but I have seen it and, call me old fashioned, but I don’t like it! 🙁

Which platform were you using?
AIM, Yahoo!, Skype, …?
On Yahoo! messenger and Skype, I have had a similar issues when doing a cam to cam conversation. In my experience, it has been a connection problem. My internet connection is not the fastest, and that was causing the issues. Or, my friend’s internet connection was acting up.
I don’t think you or your friend is hacked. But that is just my opinion.
