Hi there!
Yes you can indeed use a webcam via AIM. Once it is set up and you open the IM chat window with the person you wish to talk to, there is a little button at the bottom which says video, or something of that discription. At work at the moment so cannot try it out for you!
However, seeing as though you asked, most IM client’s have the facility to use webcams these days.

I will bow out as well, I sound like a strangled cat, and that’s on a good day. There have been moments when I have tried, but afterwards everyone needed a sedative and a padded room to get over the ordeal 😮
