I think people expect way to much from something they get for free.Yahoo was free 5-7 years ago, and it was actually a great program back then (I admit I still complained about it, but if only I had known what they would end up doing to it, I would have appreciated what I had). Also, if no one ever speaks up about the things wrong with it, why would anyone over there ever feel motivated to make it any better? The word limit, user rooms and profiles used to be the only things that really set Yahoo apart from AIM and MSN; now there’s really no reason for people not to make the switch.

MemberCaptcha (what a stupid name… I hate typing it :P) is in effect as of right now. I have to say, it’s one thing Yahoo has done right where chat is concerned. Why didn’t they do this, though, before they went and hacked the word limit? Anyway, so far, so good…

MemberSeems like Yahoo either doesn’t care or can’t afford chat anymore. Every few months they chip away another piece of it that used to make it enjoyable. First the user rooms, then the word limit, now profiles can’t even have pictures. Oh well. :/ I hope someday it’s back to what it used to be.

If she isn’t, it’s a Yahoo server issue most likely. If she is indeed being booted, there is a couple things she can try.No, it’s not a user booting her, it’s just Yahoo constantly logging her off (sorry, amongst each other we call that “booting” too).
Ven0m wrote:She can use an ALG program to integrate with Yahoo! Messenger (examples being YTK Pro and Y!TunnelPro). My recommendation there would be YTK Pro, since it has the most (and best) anti-boot options.Or, she can try a 3rd party chat client like Y!mLite, YahELite, and Yahaven. I’d recommend using Y!mLite or Yahaven, since they have the most anti-boot solutions at the moment out of the 3rd party chat clients/.
She knows about Meebo, Yahelite, etc., but because none of them have all the options that Messenger does (message archiving, conferencing, etc.) and because she doesn’t want to download more unnecessary programs to her computer, she really just wants to use Messenger.

MemberWhat is the point of this? No one likes bots…

Dermont wrote:while the bots would do it like..Code:hi my name is foxy and im single..however they can get a lot more elaborate, well used to befoe the limitation, why the one line spammers are about now.
I don’t see how cutting down on the word limit fixes anything. Correct me if I’m wrong, but all they did was disallow bots spamming in different colored text? Chat is still full of the same bots; what did they accomplish?

MemberDermot;206978 wrote:it’s chat after all, not an online diary, you can space your sentencesLike I said, I used it for multi-line interactive storytelling, which is not any less valid a use for chat than shooting the breeze.
Why don’t they just disallow HTML, if that’s the problem?
Savannah
MemberIronic, since Java was the only chat client that wouldn’t gobble up your text all the time.
Oh well. I can only hope that all the recent screw-ups were because of the updating, and that everything will come out improved.

Unless he’s just a really dumb hacker, the contact information won’t be the same anymore. On the off chance that it is, though, this is the only way you’ll be able to get your account back other than e-mailing Yahoo (and we all know they never do a damn thing) or hacking it back yourself.

MemberNetti wrote:My Idea is this. I ask everyone that I am having a problem viewing thier profile, if they have a 360 page on the SAME account, as I am viewing, so far they have all said yes.Nah, I don’t think that’s it. Four different profiles on four different accounts of mine didn’t show and none of them have 360 pages.
I’m convinced it has something to do with the length of characters in the “Real Name” listing. Using ca.profiles.yahoo.com, I edited two of the profiles to shorten the names from a first, middle and last to just a first and last; voila— now they both work. I haven’t tried the other two yet.

MemberIs she just ignoring them by selecting “ignore this user” on the add request, or is she actually going into Yahoo preferences, Ignore List, and adding them to the list manually? I’ve had this problem in chat with bots who wouldn’t stay ignored, and adding them manually made them go away. Or she can choose to ignore everyone who isn’t on her buddy list
Savannah
MemberHm, how about DON’T make a bot? They piss everyone off and hardly anyone actually reads what they’re advertising.

Like I said, all of the profiles of mine that are down have three “Real Name”s; it’s the same with my friends who are experiencing the problem, too.
