MemberIf your going to keep a site like that up I suggest that you have pretty good security yourself ^^

MemberConfused_armanda if you are worried about this error I would suggest that you update your hardware drivers, but like DJ said, I would not think that this is a harmful error seeing as it only happened once/

MemberIf you leave your computer on for long amounts of time it can become unstable and turn off sometimes, because of this it can become even more unstable due to the fact that it is not turning off properly when it turns off in the middle of the night. I did this to my old computer and it became very unstable, shut off often, and eventually fried my motherboard. I suggest you turn off, or restart the computer once each day, even if you dont need too, it runs faster and is more stable if you do this.

I’m just worried that it might happen again and all my files etc will be lost. I was connected to the internet at the time, but wasn’t at my computer for about 30mins, I don’t know if that has something to do with it. I’m running XP. And I was logged on to MSN Messenger at the time.Do you mean that when you got the error all your files were lost, or do you mean that there was another incedent where you lost your files?

MemberWell, apparently the people at the partition magic site told me that it was an unrestricted demo, but it wasnt, but the good thing is that my dads co-worker had a full version of partition magic at work and he’s lent it to me and now im on redhat. Thanks!

MemberDo you mean just resize my one partition and leave unallocated space? I tried to do that but it still has the star next to the operation saying it needs to be run in boot mode to do this, and when I press apply it goes back to normal, so I could do all of these things my problem is just what this “boot mode” thing is, they dont even tell you what it is in the help file.
ShadowSlayer469
MemberI told you, its stupid to people in this forum, I dont know how you got me to post it…
ShadowSlayer469
MemberWhat is “Boot mode” in Partition Magic? I just noticed that in the operations window it has a star by the first operation and down at the bottom it says “* Requires boot mode to execute.”

I have 8.0 too, but I am thinking about just backing up everything I actually need, format, and than just install it.

MemberThere are two buttons Undo, and Apply, and when I pressy apply the new partitions dissapear and are not to be seen.
Does anyone know how to make the partitions actually happen with this stupid program?

MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by DavidSS: You need to have free space, not free space on a partition, use Partition Magic to resize your existing Windows partition.
I tried using Paritition Magic and as soon as I close it the partitions dont exist anymore and it goes back to how it was before.

Yep, but unfortunatly… ugh… there is a problem. When I get to the part about what to do with the partitions, I told it to use the blank space already on my hard drive. But when I do this is says the following:
You have not defined a root partition(/), which is required for installation of Red Hat Linux to continue.”
And when I press OK, it tells me that I might see the error if I dont have enough space, but I am very sure this is not true seeing as I have a 20gig hard drive and only 30% is used by windows at the moment.
So does anyone know how I would go about defining a root partition? Thanks.

MemberProblem solved, at least somewhat. I downloaded Red Hat linux instead and burn the first disk and it booted fine, so I think ill just go ahead and burn the rest of them. Thanks though.

MemberHrm… this is very odd, there apears to be no DOSUTILS directory on the disk, and although there is an IMAGES directory, it doesnt have anything but a file called ‘dummy.img’ and ‘MD5SUM’. I dont think I could have downloaded the wrong thing, I got the file from a mirror listed on http://www.linuxiso.org . Do you think it is possible that I got the wrong thing?
I downloaded it from linuxiso.org because all of the mirrors on the mandrake site led to nowhere, and I got 9.1 instead of 10 because all the links on linuxiso.org to the 10 download pages were dead. But the 9.1 download pages still worked. I just dont think that somone would have tampered with the files on the iso images, or something like that.
