As long as you have the latest security updates and take precautions not to just give out information to those who dont need it, you should be fine.
ShadowSlayer469MemberI know I said that I would probably purchase the Emachines one, but I think I may lower my price range to $1200 and less.
So my question is, does anyone know how this laptop performes?
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=34-149-010&depa=3
AVERATEC Notebook 6130H1 Intel Pentium 3.0The battery doesnt need to be too long, because I will probably need 2 hours at most with it plugged in when I can reach an outlet. Im not very concerned about playing games anymore, because if I do get one it will be used mostly for getting work out of the way during lunch. Such as compiling, running photoshop, and *maybe* some 3dsmax work.
ShadowSlayer469MemberYeah, I see what you mean, most of the HP laptops have gotten bad reviews because they heat up quickly, like you said most likely poor ventilation in the design.

That Athlon 64 laptop you were looking at probably wouldn’t be able to play UT2k3 for much longer than a half an hour, being generous of course, without liquid cooling. The point: go Intel Pentium M for a laptop. If you read through the review, you would know that the battery lasted all the way through black hawk down when he was testing the battery life under load. I also read another review that a guy played medal of honor for two hours until the battery died, which is only thirty minutes away from the estimated time it takes to drain the battery when running under medium load (ie ms word… surfing web). And that will fit my needs because if I do play games on it, it will be either at lunch, or at home where I will have acess to an outlett.
And personally, I h ave never had an AMD-M that overheated. Right now I have an amd xp-m in my desktop and its running at 2.6 ghz and 1.85 volts and its only at 48 degrees. And my dad’s laptop from work is very similar to DJ’s and it doesnt even get hot when running software like mathCAD and complex programming applications.
But I cant say the same for my current PII 400 mhz toshiba 2595, it overheats when playing mario :eek:
ShadowSlayer469MemberI belive that I have found the perfect laptop for my needs!
It is the Emachines M6805 Athlon 64 Mobile 3000+
http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/product_info/details__cat_id–462,prod_id–11454150.htmlI have found extremely good reviews on this laptop, such as this one.
It says it can play Unreal tournament 2003 with maxed out detail at 1024×768 resolution without falling below 45 fps, which is much better than my geforce2 that I have in my desktop computer right now. And the performance benchmarks are just as remarkable.
Thanks for everyones help, if you have any reason why I shouldnt, or even why I definitly should buy this laptop, please post.
ShadowSlayer469MemberI have thought about ebay, but I still need to actually save the money to buy the laptop, so ebay never really came to mind for this situation. I guess I could get something off ebay, but I just wanted to know exactly what kind of laptop would be best before I decided for sure if I wanted to save up for one.
ShadowSlayer469Member🙁 when I customize it to my specifications it comes out at around $1500
ShadowSlayer469MemberI can only afford things slightly above $1400 or lower. Thanks for your help anyway David 🙂
ShadowSlayer469MemberI think this is a great idea, even if you have to pay some. I hope that it will be like this in most places in the near future.
ShadowSlayer469MemberThanks! It works, now. It would have been a pretty hard to manage the site when it opens without being able to view it from the server while I’m working on it!
ShadowSlayer469MemberMaybe your computer just completely sucks, or its a decent speed but its being overloaded by spyware. What graphics card do you have? Or do you have onboard, and if so, what motherboard?
ShadowSlayer469MemberI put the following in my hosts file:
66.177.xx.xxx 127.0.0.1
Without the x’s that is, but its not working, I also did it with my domain insead of ip.ShadowSlayer469MemberThanks, but do you have any clue as to why this might be fixed?
ShadowSlayer469MemberIts really just temporary, because my dads in Brazil and the win xp disk is along with him. So I just need something to run on for a month or so, but I have to get a new battery though, because the old one just died on me and wont recharge. When I get win xp on their I figure I’ll upgrade the RAM anyway, its not all that bad for an old laptop, I even managed to get it to run dreameweaver today with wine emulator.
ShadowSlayer469MemberNevermind, I forgot to log onto root.
