Ok, so someone has your IP addie…and they keep changing names and harrassing you…what do you do?? Well for one, I would get their IP addie myself (there are numerous ways to do this, see all the other forum replies…) then download a decent firewall. One of my favorites is Protowall, and another one is Kerio. With these firewalls, you can block their IP addies period. Simple as that. Then they definitely can’t “hack” into computer for one thing…and I think it even blocks yahoo chat too. You guys are correct in that you can’t get an IP addie with just chatting with someone…however, I don’t think the Yahoo server completely acts as a proxy or anything…so it may very well forward the IP’s of people chatting. Also, if that guy has an IP that changes every 24 hours, or every logoff (which is often the case) you may have to block a range of IP addresses. If someone gets your IP address, you can usually just change your IP address by changing the slot that your NIC resides in, putting it in another PCI slot…and then they no longer have your IP. I’m not really sure if someone mentioned it or not, but you could also run through a proxy, and that would hide your IP address admirably, if you wanted to go through with all the bother.
