Bensjazz wrote:Hi….I have a laptop with a built in mic that wont work in messenger. It works fine when i test the hardware and works great in sound recorder.
When i open an audio conversation (sometimes with the camera and sometimes without) the person at the other end cant hear me. Sometimes the green bar by the mic reacts to me speaking and sometimes it doesnt….
Anyone have any suggestions so i can make this work?

Can you tell me how to fix this problem as the wife would like to hold a conversation with our daughter in universityI have Windows XP on my computer, version 6.2(6.2.0205) of MSN Messenger and one copy of the RTCDLL.DLL file (version 5.1.2600.0) stored in C:4f5e684212efa4e9. I tried MSN Messenger yesterday and was able to send a conversation, using the Audio selection in MSN, to another computer that uses Windows ME. I cannot transfer video to that computer but I can send Webcam pictures and Audio at the same time. However, prior to this I have carried out the various adjustments described in earlier pages (1…6?) of this thread and listed on the pages of a similar thread in the Dell Forums. (see my posting of 11/3/2005).

I will try and help you – click on my name in the column adjacent and send me an E-mail message. When I receive it I will add your E-mail address to my contacts list and you will need to add mine when you receive an E-mail from me. We can then try to use MSN together.

Hello Tom! I’m sorry about my poor English! My name’s Roger, I’m from Sao Paulo,
Brazil. I’d like (if it’s possible) your help or tip to solve my MSN voice
problem. I’ve already read all of messages from the “BigBlueBall forums”. I did
all that you’ve said to solve this problem, but without sucess. If you have any
idea about it I’d like to hear you! Look my system’s configuration (everything
in English): Windows XP Home; Antivirus AVG; Firewall ZoneAlarm; MSN 6.2.0137;
currently I’ve 4 RTCDLL.DLL installed in my computer, 3 of them version
5.1.2600.0 (..system; ..system32; ..lastgoodsystem32), and 1 of them version
5.2.4949.1001 (..winsxsx86_microsoft…). I’ve been crazy trying to make the
MSN voice works! I’m so thankful about your help.TomHyde
MemberTo Deadeye: Thanks for the information – I visited the website given below and have now removed Skype and it’s relations using Uninstall, Spybot and Registry Mechanic. I also removed manually any other files that were installed at the same time as Skype. I suppose the moral is: If it’s free ask the question “why?”.
T.Hyde
Quote:quote:Originally posted by DeadeyeNo, I have the WinXP firewall AND Kerio personal firewall enabled, MSN audio remains unaffected.
Now as for Skype, it doesnt matter what the producer says about it 😉 but the people who used it.
I’ll enlighten you. Visit this link http://www.download.com/3302-2349_4-10280860.html?pn=1&fb=2Just a look on the bad comments from disapointed users worked like a ”Stay away” sign to me.
If you want it though…its your choice.TomHyde
MemberTo Deadeye: Could you please tell us where you found the information about Skype’s shortcomings. I used Google to try to find out more about Skype and I found this webpage which suggests that computer users try it:
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1563
I shall do some more searching to find out what other people say about Skype
T.Hyde
Quote:quote:Originally posted by DeadeyeNo, I dont trust Skype as I heard many comments that Skype is nothing more but an effort to load your computer with malicious spyware and an open invitation for people to jack your system.
I solved my problem by simply formatting my computer, and installing WinXP instead of Win98 that I initially had. It works just fine now.
By the way, Skype is only recommended to XP users, Hyde, maybe thats the answer to the problem you’re dealing with.TomHyde
MemberTo Deadeye: It is pleasing to know that you have successfully used MSN Messenger but your solution is not suitable for everyone. Upgrading an operating system is neither sinple nor cheap and must be cariied out carefully in order to avoid losing valuable files which have been created on an earlier operating system. Now you can help others if you can tell us if you need to disable the XP firewall in order to use voice messaging in MSN Messenger.

MemberTo Deadeye: I wondered if you have tried the suggestion in my last post or the advice to try SKYPE given by Arniesbrother. I have downloaded SKYPE on to two computers, one running in Windows XP (with the XP firewall enabled) and the second in Windows ME protected by the EZ firewall. Skype seems to work fine on the XP computer but causes the computer to hang on the ME with the firewall enabled and I am still trying to find out why this happens.

MemberYou give a strange list of filenames below, I think that you made a mistake with your search instructions. The filename you should use in your search is RTCDLL.DLL and the full-stop before the last three letters is very important. Try searching again using the above filename.

Quote:quote:Originally posted by maasman2Thanks for your quick reply. I’ve deleted all the rtcdll files and it comes back on both my desktop and my laptop. Finally, my desktop crashed (for an unrelated problem), I rebooted and its gone. Don’t know what I did, so I can’t repeat this on my laptop. HOWEVER, I’m very disappointed to say that the audio still doesn’t work (on my desktop with the correct rtcdll file). I get video ok, but when I try audio I get “the network or computer you are trying to reach is experiencing a problem. Please try again later.” My friends computer can video and audio communicate with others, so its not his computer. I’ve done all the other ‘fixes’, turned off firewall, enabled UPnP on my router, disabled QoS Packet Scheduler etc. Any further suggestions? Thanks again for the help!

MemberIt is vital that you rename or remove all of your old copies of the RTCDLL.DLL files before downloading the latest version of MSN Messenger. Using Windows XP – click on Start/Search and then type RTCDLL in the “Search for files or folders named” box. Then you can either delete all of the RTCDLL.DLL files that you find or rename them from RTCDLL.DLL to RTCDLL.OLD. You should then be able to download the latest version of MSN Messenger 6.1 which will contain the correct version of the RTCDLL.DLL file. In older versions of Windows I think you need to use the instruction “Find” to search for files. Try this advice then report back whatever result you get. Best of luck.

Quote:quote:Originally posted by maasman2I’m having troubles with audio and MSN messenger 6.1 and in particular with trying to delete the RTCDLL.DLL file. I’ve followed the instructions of T.Hyde, but the 5.2.4949.1001 keeps coming back. I’ve downloaded the latest MSN Messenger 6.1 (6.1.0.211) and the ‘old’ file won’t go away.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way I’m running WindowsXP Professional, no firewall, Linksys router BEFW11S4, broadband cable.TomHyde
MemberYou don’t say whether you have found the QoS packet Scheduler, (see my previous post). Try disabling the firewall temporarily, for the duration of your MSN Messenger session, and then try to make your contact. Since I am away for the weekend, I will try to help you next week using MSN Messenger, I will send you an E-mail to put me on your contacts list. Please tell me where in the world you are – different time zones can cause problems if you are on-line when I am getting my beauty sleep and vice-versa.

Quote:quote:Originally posted by marievesaumurNo it doseant work with win.98 so.. here are some of my infos:
My router is a Blitzz model:BWK802
Windows Version: Windows 98, 4.10.2222
Messenger Version: 6.1.0207
I don’t have a dell or anything like that and I don’t really know about my computer.
Yes,there is a firewall on my router and it is enabled it is not Zone alarm it’s just a firewall protection that came with my router when I go to configure it.
Anyways here are my infos so.. if you find a solution just shout away!
thanks!
MarieTomHyde
MemberHere are a few further suggestions. When you try to talk to another computer do you have an icon at the bottom of the screen which looks like two overlapping monitors? If yo do, right click on it, then click on Status, then Properties and this should reveal the page with QoS Packet Scheduler on it. Click on the adjacent arrow to disable the QoS thingy. (this may only work in Windows XP).
Also, find the full details of your version of MSN Messenger. Open it, click on Help, then About MSN Messenger, and then you will see the full details of your version.
You must also give us some more information about your system. What kind of router do you have? Does it have a firewall installed and enabled?T.Hyde
Quote:quote:Originally posted by marievesaumuri tried your method tomhyde but in the control panel I dont hve Network connections…. so… does any one have any solution for someone with a router windows 98 ans messenger 6.1 ??? I can’t have voice conversations and I am pretty sure its because of the router because before I bought it I was connected directly with just one computer and the voice worked fine so… please help!!!

MemberTo Marievesaumur: I Don’t use Windows 98, but looking elsewhere, in the Dell Community Forums, I found this sequence clicks:
Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network Connections/, then I think you must click on Local Area Connections/Properties
With a bit iof luck you are now on the correct page, if not try clicking on the individual items in the top task bar.
Best of luck.
