I know Yahoo! could go to the extreme of making people prove their age for adult profiles, (ie : using cc’s) and that would help keep the kids from making adult profiles and entering adult chat but.. not sure how they would go about it to keep adults out of the kids rooms.I know at one time there were moderators in the kid’s rooms, what happened to them? Did they become an unnecessary evil, or did Yahoo just not want to bother anymore? I don’t care for moderators either, too much power goes to some of their heads, but I think moderation and proving age are possibly where we are headed. Yahoo! will not be able to get back their sponsers until they have done everything within their power to make sure things like this won’t be happening again.I’m afraid this is gonna be a long troublesome time for Yahoo!

They were right in doing what they did to protect the children but … the parents are also responsible and they should take the measures to protect their children from online predators as well. I am in no way defending the sickos.Ive seen what they are like and personally a lifetime in prison would be the best place for them. I just dont believe these parents should hold Yahoo! completely at fault, especially those parents who dont pay attention to what their kids are doing when on the internet.

Where were the parents when their kids were surfing these rooms? Where are the parents when their kids make adult profiles and go into adult chatrooms? Come on people, yeah Yahoo! should have taken precautions but lets put some of the responsibility where it should be, on the parents who allow their children to roam the internet freely as a babysitter so they don’t have to take time out of their “busy” schedule to be bothered with them.Anyone who is a parent and has surfed the web and the chatrooms knows what is out there . I truly believe some of these parents are going after Yahoo! to help sooth their own GUILTY conscience for not knowing what their kids were up to. First and foremost its the parents responsibility to protect their children, there are ways to set up computers so that children cannot get into certain areas of the net. It’s pretty sad that although Yahoo! could have done better they need to take the full blame for something that is partly caused due to poor parenting.
WendiMemberNo Nick you arent going crazy lol. I did try the group chat room thing last night, it took a couple of tries, but it did work. Its pretty simple although a pain in the butt. But at least the bots leave you alone lol.
WendiMemberThe problem i see with yahoo using filters on the names of the user rooms is this……Kids are alot smarter these days, schools are now teaching them computer programming, and it wouldn’t be too hard for them to figure out the filters. The other problem I see is …. How is Yahoo! gonna stop these kids from making adult profiles so they can access these rooms? Will we end up having to prove our age by CC now ? I was in adult chat over the weekend and from Friday evening till Sunday evening I saw at least a dozen kids under the age of 16 going into the adult rooms and asking to get on cams. One young man who’s profile said 18 but was really only 15 begged to get on my cam, and was extremely pissed off because I wouldn’t allow it. I hate the thought of reporting these kids to Yahoo! but on the other hand I need to protect myself as well. And where the hell are the parents when these kids are surfing adult chat rooms? I’m afraid its gonna be quite awhile (if ever) before we get the user rooms back.I don’t see any easy solution here. They could moderate all the chatrooms, the chatrooms for kids used to be (not sure if they still are), but then you have to deal with moderators kicking people out just because they don’t like them not necessarily because they’ve done something wrong.Just my opinions, I have a feeling the worst is yet to come.
WendiMemberI have noticed in the couple of days that a few user rooms are starting to show up, but when you try to access them they say they are private and cannot be entered without an invite. I also have heard a rumour that the rooms will be back by Friday but I stress its a RUMOR, I cannot find anything to back it up. I did find yet another article regarding this situation and by reading it I wonder just what we will have to go through to use the user rooms once we do get them back… heres the link if anyone is interested……..http://www.click2houston.com/news/4549393/detail.html
WendiMemberWell Oreo if you had been in chat within the last few months you would notice that yahoo does indeed have male porn bots now, and the bots have become better programmed so that they now try to hold small conversations by focusing on key words. Anyways, I too have had this problem with strange names trying to be added to my list and it does indeed look like its people who have my name on their list but I have for whatever reason deleted them or never added them, but it is indeed a good way to see who may have you on their list. And I love the new ignore, when you ignore a name you can also send a message to yahoo reporting the name as spam, I’m thinking yahoo did this to help control the bot situation.
Ive also been made aware of an issue with webcam use with beta 7. It seems now whenever u change your preferences on cam invites(either allow everyone, or show all requests to view or auto allow certain people and ignore everyone else) and your cam is on, the people already viewing u get a new invite. Not sure what this is all about.
Ive also noticed that now in chat you cannot click on a name in the room list and put that person on follow. You can still use join user in chat but follow user is gone and that kind of sucks, especially when you have a couple of friends online with you and you all want to surf rooms together and I’ve noticed that voice chat is hard to control. If you turn it on in one room then shut if off , then go to another room it automatically turns back on.
This is a beta version of course and with any luck yahoo will address certain issues before they release the final version.(One can dream I suppose)WendiMemberWendi wrote:Does anyone know why with yahoo messenger version 6 , when u emote someone in the chat room it posts twice ? I can’t figure it out. It works fine when you just emote the room, but when u click to emote a person it goes wacko. I have looked the emotes over a billion times and I cant find the problem. There’s no double posting. Anyone got any ideas?Seems that Yahoo has fixed whatever bug was causing the double posting of emotes in chat rooms with messenger version 6, when they made the beta of messenger 7.Ive been playing with all the emotes I could find for a few days now and I havent had one problem with double posting. YAY!!!!

WendiMemberI happened across this site while looking for a fix to the issue of using emotes in yahoo chat with version 6 messenger. Seems like a great site with lots of information available.Keep up the great work.
WendiMemberI also saw the article on ynot.com. I use the yahoo user rooms quite frequently and while they can still be made they just cannot be listed. The apparent issue here is that the sponsership of yahoo user rooms has been pulled due to user rooms being created in adult user rooms that are to lure young children. We can thank the pedophiles for that one.I myself was in an adult user room one day and 3 times during the timeI was in there young kids came in trying to get on peoples cams.I also viewed a cam in which there were 2 naked women and one naked man sitting in front of the cam view with a small child, the male was strokin himself. This was immediately reported to yahoo by several people.I realize that in other countries this might be acceptable behavior but come on now the whole world is viewing you.I also have seen an article blaming perverted-justice for these problems. Well if you have gone to perverted-justice.com and seen the conversations that these pedophiles have had with what they thought were young children people would understand why groups like perverted-justice exist. Maybe they need to change the way they handle some things but I having kids of my own am glad to see such groups exist to protect our children. I do feel that parents are to blame as well. Lots of parents allow children to play on the computers and don’t pay attention to what their kids are up to. Wake up parents we are just as responsible for these things. Children do not belong in adult chatrooms , thats why they are listed under adult. They have their own and I truly believe that for both groups of people yahoo should come up with some way to prove age to protect us all.
