MemberOk…….I would extremely like some help for this problem…….see it’s been happening for me (that is not being able to use the proper MSN messenger) for around oh 6 or 7 months now.
I have been getting the same error that is associated with this “0x81000301” error. But only recently has it been labelled as being 0x81000301.
I would like some help if anyone has any ideas, I’ve tried everything suggested on this forum and none of it has worked.
Also, I have obtained every release of MSN messenger since v1.0 and none of them work. I have used many many 3rd party IM’s, with Lycos satisfying my needs wonderfully for the 2 weeks before Microsoft changed their protocol. I have now been swapping between two web-based messengers, both of which do not seem to work for me now.
As you can see I’m stressed…..help please!

Memberthe solution
ok, i am from venezuela so my english is not very good…
i had the same problem and i did everything i could find. ok first,
uninstall msn then i reinstalled internet explorer 6, then you have to check in “help”, “about internet explorer” if you have an encription of 128 bit because hotmail uses this kind of encryption tu access your inbox, if you have 0 bits or other you will have to go to http://www.microsoft.com and download the lates encryption package.ok that solve my problem accesing my mail through internet explorer.
but when i tried to conect my messenger it showed this error code 0x81000370 and something about a problem with my internet conection.ok to solve this problem you have to do many things:
first go to “tools” “internet options” then go to security and set you internet security level as low, then go to “andvaced options” and check “use SSL 2.0” and “use SSl 3.0” this are other tools of security that hotmail needs, and uncheck the one that says (i will put this in spanish because i dont know how to translate.. if someone can please quote it) “comprobar la revocacion del certificado de autentificacion”.
finally go to the general tab and delete all the temporary internet files
delete also all the cookies and clear the historyfinally the step that solved all my problems… it apears that some dlls tha msn used got someway deleted or corrupted, y recomend donwload new ones from the internet and then reinstall them like this:
Click on Start, Run and type “REGSVR32 SOFTPUB.DLL” (w/o the quotes). You should see a popup message that this process succeeded.
then do the same with INITPKI.DLL and with MSSIP32.DLL, remember if you donwload this dllls from the net be sure to put them in the folder windows/systemok thats all, i hope this will work

MemberHEY! SOMETHING MORE!
i forgot to tellif none of the above explain works, go to the net and download a
programa called Ad-Aware it finds all the third party programs in your computer also all the spyware, msn has some problems with this programs..
and the final solution is to do a clean new installation of internet explorer, go to microsof and donwload the installer for internet explorer 6 sp1 the you have to find a program called “internet explorer erradicator” “IErradicator”, this programs unistalls internet explorer from your computer reboot and then reinstall internet explorer with the program you just downloaded and then do all the steps i explain again..ok thats it
good bye everyone

MemberOk i found the solution!!
My problem started like 3 days ago, when i tried to use the Universal Patch, and then i couldnt sign in to Messenger 6, i unistalled, and downloaded 6.1 same pro, downloaded 5 and got same error, so i decided to download Windows Messenger 4.7 and it worked, but with 4.7 your not up to date, and you cant do what u can with 6 or 6.1
So i started looking, and found out some changes i was having on me IE, like another HomePage would appear different from the one i want it, it took me to MSN.com, so i decided to Remove IE 6, and when i look at it on the “Rem programs” i found out that it said something like “INTERNET EXpLORER Q839146” a bunch of # following, and when i hit the Remove, it ask me if i wanted to remove the “Q839146 Configurations” and i said yes, and it removed, i reboot, and i now can log in to MSN Messenger 6 with no problem! 😀
so try it out and see if it worksDecember 31, 2003 at 10:54 pm #88974Eric
