ParticipantI think it may be a good idea to instigate a Forum area to post up warnings to those members who post useless, negative, or hurtful posts. Perhaps this would help diminish the amount of posts that help no one and cause annoyance to everyone else. At the very least it would point out those who may not be giving the best advise. The forum would have to be a moderater only posting area in order to work.
One of the biggest annoyances are the members who add a response to every active topic with posts like “that doesn’t make sense”, or “LOL” or “i wish”, obviously trying to enhance there post status 😡 or those just looking for an argument.Just an idea. What do you think?

Keymasteri like that idea but what if u asked a question and they answered it and u couldnt understand then could u put in a reply that says “that doent make sense”

MemberI think it could be OK…but who’s to say that people won’t claim they are being “singled” out and that their posts really are not meant to cause fights. Am I expecting too much by thinking that we can all put this behind us?

MemberPeople often get offended, in my experience, when another person offers different help to the same problem.
I can see where the feelings come from, but its advantageous to the user seeking help, because they have a few different ways to try and do something, and most probably will remember at least one of them. They can also choose which is most comfortable for them.
Not everyone gives great advice, because they are not as technically minded as others perhaps, but as long as it’s made clear its a guess, people should accept they are trying, and not complain. The same way that if someone comes and says, no that’s wrong, they accept they was wrong and learn from it; obviously trouble starts when both parties believe they are the correct one.
In my experience those who are not very helpful, have huge post counts, because they just post where they can to boost it, because some people boast about their post count. Helpful users are in the middle usually. People who are just seeking help, are at the low end.

ParticipantYea, I agree with Oreo. It’s a no win situation for Jeff. If he takes action then people will complain, if he doesn’t, people will still complain. (Sorry, didn’t mean that to sound like shifter was complaining) but you get the drift right?

ParticipantYeah I see your points. Hard to single out those argumentative types, they don’t bother me that much anyway. They are attention seekers, and i usually just leave em for those who like to argue.
As for SoccerSwty, that may have been a bad example, but perhaps clarifying what it is that doesn’t make sense would help the other members answer better.
I don’t think the Forum of Shame would be an area to use very often, just for extreme or obvious cases. Such as those who blatantly post boost, and those that simply offer useless info over and over (ie. go look on google). Simply a warning area that would let them know they are not appreciated. I’m not complaining about anything, just thought it might help improve the forum use.
Keep posting your views on it, its good to know what other members think about it – good or bad.

MemberI would have to agree with SoccerSwty99 for haveing a form called “that doent make sense”. because it would help out alot of people. well at least I think so.

Participanter…odababy…that doesn’t make sense…a form? or forum? she never suggested either…what exactly isn’t making sense for you?
Which brings me to another quirk – those who don’t bother to read there posts before posting them. Why not take the 2 seconds it takes to overlook what you’ve typed and make sure it is coming out exactly as you meant it, without spelling errors if possible!! I know I know..waaaay too much to ask [:P]

MemberThe best way to inform a user they are being inappropriate (either abusive, stupid, or posting wrong information) is to tell them privately. Otherwise what happens is a thread gets taken over with arguments about who is wrong, and poor Mr X who needed help unknowingly started an argument.
If people resepected others, and didn’t judge on any grounds, this thread wouldn’t even exist. But as the world consists of different types of people, so does everything in it, including every forum on the net!

ParticipantGood Points all around. You have convinced me that a Forum of Shame is not needed, nor would it help. When you consider how easily someone can get out of hand, by increasing the amounts of useless, negative or abusive posts, and that banning will just cause them to create a new member name and become even more abusive.
I think Freddy’s comment on informing the user privately is right on the mark. I know thats what I will do. Thanks for all your comments.
