ParticipantBut you STILL don’t understand what I am saying. No thread here should (or is) restricted to members posting only if they own the device. That is not how the forums work here. I wouldn’t expect Dave or Hyperbyte to ask me not to post in the AIM forum because I don’t have the application on my computer — I can still have an opinion on something without actually owning/using it.
I wasn’t trying to create an argument, only state one 🙂
And believe it or not, that quote was not from me, it was made by someone by the name of Huff, as by “<3 Huff :D". And, if you don't have negitive reviews about products, how are you to know anything that is wrong with it? Again with my iPod, if it wasn't for the reviews of other buyers, I wouldn't have had any clue as to what to expect.
Oh, and again, if you want to take what I said about the price out of context, please go ahead. The thing is way over priced for the age genre Sony targeted to. Sure, there will be the odd few out there that can afford them, as in your case, but most probably cannot. I am in Canada, not the United States. This PsP is even more over priced than in the US. If it can have these problems, and have no support for it, why on earth would I spend 2.5 weeks worth of my pay cheques on it?
As a side note, what games does it have? Which do you own? 🙂

Memberso there are over 3 million odd people that can afford them?

ParticipantOk, lets just stop arguing all together. I have Ape Escape: On The Loose and Twisted Metal: Head On. You can see the games for it at: http://www.gamestop.com/default.asp?sect=1268
Sorry that I can’t find a list of current games.
Ape Escape is really fun, funny (monkies run around with guns and lasers and rocket launchers lol), and challenging, you have to collect a certain number of monkies to get into this other half of the level then…and…and. But it gives a fun challenge. Twisted Metal is the most fun when you play multiplayer online (or with a bunch of PSP’s together). You can go through story mode on multiplayer too. It is so much fun just to go blow stuff up.April 6, 2005 at 5:16 am #117624Someguy03
MemberI only have heard these: 😉
– Easily scratched screens and casing
– Discs flying out of drive
– Short Battery Charge
– Dead Pixels
– Buttons getting stuck
– PSP not booting
– Dead UMD drives
– Drive latch not closing
– Analog sticks falling off
– Air bubbles and dust behind screensThis is why portables are better left to cartridges and not discs.

MemberOnly one of those things that I have encountered is that the screen gets scratched because of the psp case that comes with it.

ParticipantOne time I did have a disk shoot out of the drive but my PSP was upside-down when it happened.

MemberStop trying to defend the PSP. It has obvious development flaws when compared to a Nintendo Gameboy. My family owns 2 original gameboys, 2 gameboy pockets, a gameboy color, a gameboy advance, a gameboy SP, and a gameboy DS. I have never experienced any problems with them not starting up, or the screen having dead pixels, or low battery life, or buttons getting stuck, or buttons falling out, and have never gotten any dust behind my screen. And I have DEFINENTLY never had my game cartridge shoot out of the GameBoy while playing. 😉
Sony set out a letter saying that if you can’t live with dead pixels, then don’t buy a PSP. It’s like Ford saying “If you are bothered because the cars we make have cracked windshields, don’t buy one.”

– Discs flying out of drive
– Buttons getting stuck
– Drive latch not closing
– Analog sticks falling off
– Air bubbles and dust behind screensThose have little to do with the actual technological side of the device, this isn’t the CPU breaking, it’s a latch not closing and an improperly secured disk.

KeymasterI don’t personally know anyone who has a PSP, but they sound cool on paper. And it’s interesting to see the hacks that are coming out now, like an IRC chat app and soon an AIM client.

ParticipantWhen I said this:
MrEggsalad wrote:One time I did have a disk shoot out of the drive but my PSP was upside-down when it happened.I wasn’t trying to defend it, just telling you what my PSP was like when it happend. I haven’t, nor has my 2 friends had any problem with it. I’m not saying that all PSP’s don’t have problems, just the ones I know of haven’t had any. This thread is going to go on like this forever……….:( I just want to see what other people with PSP’s think of it.

- adding an analog stick makes it more complex.
- buttons getting stuck due to the lack of space: (quote from sony)

MemberThat only covers about half the problems the PSP currently has. In my opinion, people should be able to buy products and know that it is going to work right out of the box. They shouldn’t be purchasing it and at the same time hoping that they are one of the lucky people who aren’t buying a defective PSP.
Sony needs to fix all the problems and then re-release it, then I might consider getting one.

That is exactly what I mean, I even said itShadowdogMU wrote:Reason 2, has anyone noticed how sony has re-released all their gaming systems (playstation-PSone, PS2-the new “more capable” PS2) I beileve this isnt just a cheap way for them to sell more of their products, I think its becuase they always find something wrong witht the original.April 8, 2005 at 1:12 am #117655MrEggsalad
ParticipantThe PSP can do this really cool thing I found out about, Surf the WEB!! If you get Wipeout Pure, then go to http://www.base2.org/~fugimax/weblog/archives/000296.html
to find out how to do it. Wipeout Pure will be my next game!
That will also let you talk on IRC so you probably could talk with the people on BigBlueBall on your PSP. -
