Hi can anyone tell me whether there are any web based applications that allows me to chat with people on MSN Messenger? Something like Icq Go!
I need this because I currently don’t have internet at home and need to chat with my friends on MSN but I can’t install MSN on public internet machines.
Can anyone direct me to a web page please?:D
January 18, 2003 at 10:24 pm #64910sciencefeelingMemberHi destinytt!
I found this http://www.msnfanatic.com/article.php?sid=30 site that talks about a java based msn client (it works for linux), normally those are the type of things you can get to work…on a shared computer.
It is just an idea that you can try, i never tried it, and i dont know if it will solve your problem, but as it says it is programed in java and it runs in linux..i thought it could work…
(I am not really a computer expert so I might be reaaaaally reaaaaally wrong, just don’t call me bad things if I am, ok???
ScienceJanuary 30, 2003 at 9:55 pm #64891Jeff HesterKeymasterThanks, Sciencefeeling!
The program is written in Java, so it is web-based, but you need to load and run the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). It’s called dMSN Messenger and there is no relation to Microsoft. Because it’s written in Java, it will run on any OS that supports Java, including Macintosh, UNIX, Linux, and Windows.
March 14, 2003 at 10:10 pm #64916OrcoXPMember:confused: Ok, is there a Web-Based MSN client?
One that you can use without installing anything?dMSN seems great but I believe the question was asking for Web-Based.
thx
March 14, 2003 at 10:32 pm #64893TonyMemberYou can launch dMSN through Java Web Start without installing anything (if you have Java installed).
Launch it from http://www.dmsn.nl/webstart/index.html
March 14, 2003 at 10:47 pm #64915OrcoXPMemberWhat I mean is like on high-security systems where you cannot install anything with your access (like a library)
March 15, 2003 at 4:22 am #64892FanaticMemberWell dMSN might work without installing anything. Many public computers already have the necessary Java VM installed. Why not just try it and see if it works?? You’ve got nothing to lose! 🙂
March 15, 2003 at 4:46 am #64914OrcoXPMemberActually I did that before I replied to your last message. You seems to need the Sun Java/Webstart installed and usually someone doesn’t have that installed.
Althougt I have been doing some “tweaking” so maybe my Java is not working correctly. If you do NOT have Sun Java installed would you mind testing it for me?
March 20, 2003 at 3:17 pm #64905twistedmetalMemberI do not have sunjava, and it does not work on my schools public computers either. And theres no way Im downloading the version with java, its almost 14megs! Thats OK… I think I will stick with downloading the normal version of MSN for under 4 megs. Plus, many public (not purblic) computers dont even allow you to download anything, never mind install anything, so thats why many of us would like to see a web based version of MSN like ICQ2Go.
March 20, 2003 at 5:19 pm #64921IndyToneMemberOkay, I seached high and low and came up with the Mister-i messenger. You can log on here: http://www.mister-i.com/i-mode/messenger.jsp
There is nothing to install as long as you have IE. (I don’t know if it works with Mozilla or any others.)Problems with it:
1. The interface blows. Seriously, it sucks.
2. It’s not free forever. You have to pay a monthly fee after a few days. So, I as well am still searching. I find it odd that MSN has not come out with an ICQ2Go-style messenger.
March 21, 2003 at 6:43 pm #64904twistedmetalMemberWow……. this serive is pretty cool, I guess for the three days you get to use it. Its pretty complicated tho… I didnt know that I had to click on like 3 links before I even got into my contact list. Their bot….. well, not much to say… its a bot. And yes, I will have to agree its look is pretty ugly! Also, I had to click the refresh button few seconds to see if someone replied. And also some of my contacts dont even get my messages!! I can read theirs, but they dont get mine (and mine dont even show up in the window) I also kind of shaky, that they might be able to lift my password.
March 26, 2003 at 11:51 pm #64923GapBoyTMemberTry to use the MSN messenger at http://www.multicity.com (If you have questions please refer to the MSN@Work post)
April 9, 2003 at 5:54 am #64925TrivialMemberI tried using that dMSN and all it did was say I wasn’t connected to the internet then it closed.
April 9, 2003 at 2:07 pm #64902detn8rParticipantI got some ‘bug’ when I tried to open it.

This is on my schools computer so………..April 11, 2003 at 3:56 pm #64929DKMemberHi all,
I, like most ppl, would like to see and use a web based msn messenger just like icq2go. But I have not found a ‘good’ one…some of them even have time limit to use it. So I decided to create one myself but it’s not working yet because I want to make sure that other ppl would want to use it. I don’t want to found out later that nobody is really accessing it after I completed it later. I have named it MsnMessenger2Go….which got not relation what so ever to icq2go and no i m not working for icq2go either.
The site is at:
http://kickme.to/msnmessenger2goAs I said it’s not working yet…there is only a skeleton and no function at the back yet…
Please email me and tell me whether I should go ahead with it or discard it….give me any feedback guess….
DK
