Indeed.
April 12, 2003 at 7:45 am #64928DKMemberI guess it’s hard to convince ppl that there will be no logging to use it…. so i guess it would be no point to continue further….

April 14, 2003 at 4:14 pm #64922IndyToneMemberYeah DK,
I was just echoing sentiment that was already going on here. I would love a trustworthy web-based msn message system.

Odigo Express (Java), you can read more about it here & login from this link also.
http://odigo.org/features/express.htmlBefore using this you have to have a odigo ID…It’s free to get one.
Once you do you can login into MSN messenger,Icq,& Aim Also.
And if you have a mobile wireless phone with browser, you can login to odigo mobile here.I hope this helps.
Good luck.
April 15, 2003 at 4:59 pm #64918IndyToneMemberToo bad I can’t get Odigo to connect while I’m at work (where I shouldn’t even be IMing anyway ).
April 17, 2003 at 3:11 am #64932splicesiteMemberDK,
If you are worried that people will not use your site you are nuts. What you should worry about is how many days you will have until your bandwidth provider unplugs your server because of the traffic. What would be fantastic is if you get this working, to post the working package so people can use it privately on their servers without worrying about 10 million users showing up at once.

I, like most ppl, would like to see and use a web based msn messenger just like icq2go. But I have not found a ‘good’ one…some of them even have time limit to use it. So I decided to create one myself but it’s not working yet because I want to make sure that other ppl would want to use it. I don’t want to found out later that nobody is really accessing it after I completed it later. I have named it MsnMessenger2Go….which got not relation what so ever to icq2go and no i m not working for icq2go either.
The site is at:
http://kickme.to/msnmessenger2goAs I said it’s not working yet…there is only a skeleton and no function at the back yet…
Please email me and tell me whether I should go ahead with it or discard it….give me any feedback guess….

April 17, 2003 at 11:18 am #64933FLiPNFiLLMemberOdigo seems to work for me here at work.
They havent banned downloads/p0rn etc, just seems to ban external programs like Kazaa, MSN, AIM.
Anything that connects EXTERNALLY from ie.
Weird huh? But this seems to be the option I have to use MSN, altho I cant add it on my Odigo for some reason.
The other one, (which u gotta pay for ) works, but interface is bad ;(
DK> PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a working web based MSN, you rule dude :):o
April 19, 2003 at 6:36 pm #64909JazzBabyMemberOMG, if you can get this to work, i can think of a dozen people off the top of my head who will use it, and you would be my personal hero.
pleasepleaseplease do not stop working on it!
April 20, 2003 at 3:26 am #649361001 Jedi NightsParticipantThe strangest thing happened to me today… picture this:
I’m taking a course on Java programming. Although I am very familiar with programming in general, I am fairly new to Java. The final in the course is to create a program, any program as long as effort was clearly put fourth, and release it pubically on the internet.
My idea for a program was one of those “all buddy” programs. First msn, then when I have that fully working, move on to icq, aim, yahoo, and if it gets popular, I even have an idea for my own protocol.
So, here I am, searching the ‘net for everything that I will need. Well, I found what I was looking for, but I also stumbled onto this site/thread (it was one of the results on google)…
Although this clearly isn’t what I was searching for, I found the idea of a web-based chat program interesting. Long story short, for this project, I can use an applet and turn that in, so this is kind of feezable. And, to top it off, I have my own server to boot. 🙂
Of course, the server is down temporarily, (maintenance issues) but it will be back up within a week, and easily has enough bandwidth to tackel a lot of requests.
One problem: the easiest way to program this is also the most intensive on the server, as the server will make the actual connection and not the client. The client merely sends info to the server/etc. I’m working on this, but again, I’m sure it’s possible.
My idea is this: When you sign up for an account, it asks you for your username/password for each account that you want to log onto, so you only need to enter in one username/password every time you log on through your web browser. If you’re worried about having your password saved on my server, I can use my friends encryptor. He built the thing himself, it is an encryption so strong that it’s illegal to transfer over the net. (in the states anyway) and it was built by him, making it unique. Still not confortible? then you can disable the feature. (the only reason I brought that up is because someone mentioned logging passwords. I guess this isn’t technically logging, as you are entering it into a database, and it’s secure, but still… if you don’t want it there then you don’t have to put it there.)
So, Would you guys like to see this? It will be programmed in such a manner that adding another protocol will be as simple as adding another class to the stack, so if there are any other messengers out there (there is one that was made by apple I could include)
So what if I was to compile an alternate version as an applet, and find a way to get it to connect to the msn server? I know it’s possible, jirc does it.
April 20, 2003 at 7:58 pm #64934greywolfMemberI like the idea!!!! If you could also add in a handheld version my dream would be realized.
April 21, 2003 at 1:13 am #649351001 Jedi NightsParticipantQuote:quote:Originally posted by greywolfI like the idea!!!! If you could also add in a handheld version my dream would be realized.
Handheld? I haven’t thought of that, but yes, it’s possible. Already, I’m planning on compiling a version for Windows and Mac X but I can add CE or Palm to my list. How hard is it really, with java?
My first interface attempt kind of blows. I’m trying to come up with something that’s easy to use, fully featured, but not messy. Remember, good chat clients are small in size (on your screen) so preventing that messyness can be a bit of a challenge.
My plan as of now is to have the applet open up a window, and “pretend” it’s the normal version. The only diffrence will be that inevitable “Warning: applet window” message at the bottom, but that can be ignored.
I am going to achieve the dual versions (applet and stand-alone app) by using a wrapper. Basically, everything is the same, except the two are initialized diffrently. Same interface, same look, same feel. The online version will ask you for a username and password, while the app version has the option of saving the password (like the “real” clients) on your machine.
Okay, so I’ve only got two replies, but I think it would be worthwhile to do the second “applet” version. I would use it myself at school and at work. Just remember a few things. First, although I am certainly not new to programming in general, I am just starting to learn java. That could slow me down, as the main purpose for this project to begin with is for educational purposes. Second, although I just barely started the project yesterday, It shouldn’t take too long as (see above) It’s doubling as a final exam. I’ll keep you guys posted if you want, though.
If I can get it working on msn by the end of the course, then I’ll be okay. The other protocols can be added one at a time thereafter, then, If it’s popular, I can add plugins. I don’t know how I’ll do that yet, and it will probably be for the app only, but who knows.
April 23, 2003 at 3:44 am #64924Darling_123MemberI tried Odigo. But it DID NOT work for me. Only web-based msn messenger works for me is Mister-i.com.But too bad,it only can be used for 3 days.
