Sounds come with expressions. Yes, you can get free expressions from http://aimxpress.net and many other places.
Make a sound with the extension .wav or .mp3. Go into Preferences, category Buddy List, and click Sounds. On the dropdown list, click Play the sounds below. Click Browse and select the sound you want. Click Apply then Ok.

Log onto AIM, on the bottom right hand corner of your screen, where the time is, you should see the AIM man. Double click on him. On the taskbar you should see the AIM man with HisScreenName’s Buddy List. After you double click on the AIM man where the time is, push alt and then push enter. You should now see the MyAIM menu and have access to the Settings.

No, only AOL can do this, since it’s their servers.
Not too sure what ports AIM can connect on…
However, you could try toc.oscar.aol.com on port 80, but I’m not too sure if that’ll work.
I tried those ports, and it works for mine.
For the time being, you can try to use AIMExpress.
