MemberJust what I’ve always wanted, my very own talking dummy!
Give it a break man, there isn’t anyone here interested in carrying a conversation with your bot.I only tried to talk to it, to warn it to 100%, fortunately for you AOL stopped me because I wasn’t brilliant enough to remember to download an older AIM client and I was trying to warn it through Trillian.

MemberHere let me take some worry out of exposing your IP address(es):
Here is a list of firewall manufactuers that have free copies of their products that you can use to detour someone (like myself) from entering your playground (aka computer or network).
Tiny Personal Firewall : http://www.tinysoftware.com
Zone Alarm: http://www.zonelabs.com
Kerio Firewall: http://www.kerio.com
Outpost Firewall by Agnitum : http://www.agnitum.com
Zygate Firewall: http://www.zygate.comOnce you download and install one of these products, please take the time to test them by going to one of these sites that specialize in firewall testing support:
AuditMyPC: http://www.auditmypc.com
SecureMe @ DSLReports.com : http://www.dslreports.com/secureme_go
GRC (home of Shields Up): https://grc.com
Hacker Wacker: http://hackerwhacker.com
If and when your firewall pasts those tests, you can then breathe a sigh of relieve knowing that your computer is protected.
I hope this information is benefical to someone out there

MemberI think I am going sit here and code a ‘no frills’ Instant Messenger that does just that:
NO Buddy Icons
NO File Transfers
NO Web Cam Support
NO Message NotificationThat supports AOL/AIM (TOC of course), MSN, Yahoo, ICQ (If I have to support OSCAR for this, fine I’ll do so) and add Jabber as well.
Then maybe I’ll quit complaining about how horrible the commercial products really are. 🙂

MemberApparently Joe doesn’t know quality ‘sarcasm’ when he reads it.

PS – Okay, maybe it wasn’t ‘quality sarcasm’ but it was ‘sarcasm’ nevertheless

MemberI love it when GMTA 🙂
AOL Instant Messenger was a creative concept that soon traveled south the minute that they figured out:
“Hey, why don’t we plug our online service in a little space above the buddylist?”
Then it went from that to:
“Hey I’ve got it, why don’t we add file transfering to it, so that all the pedophiles can share explicit child porngraphy to one another”
Not realizing of course the security risks that were involved with that brilliant brainstorm.
Finally a man in a suite and tie in Reston Va, stands up and says:
“Let’s allow everyone to add buddy icons to their IM window so we can simulate a face to face conversation with one another”
I can’t wait to see what they come up with next

Hehehehe, whats the bottom line in the CYA clause here then?Mine? you never chatted with me, I’m a bot.
Dainbramage
My personal favorite CYA clause was:
“It wasn’t me I was pod sharked!”
Yes, a lame CYA clause but oh sooooo effective

MemberFINALLY
rusted and I come to agreement about something! It is time to bust out that 30 year old bottle of cristo that Jeff has locked in his office 🙂
Joe ran a spyware cleaner, spywares answer to anti-virus software now everything comes up spyware, tell me joe how come WINDOWS doesn’t report back as spyware? Its been giving information to Microsoft for years.
What about IBM OS/2? Same thing
My thought is that EVERY peice of software (unless its not got any use to being online) has some little shred of ‘spyware’ in it. Get over it! Big Business wants to spy let them spy they’ll figure out SOMEDAY that it won’t do their bottom line any good by doing so.

MemberIRC has been notorious for not being user friendly especially towards the ‘point n click’ generation. Although the creator of mIRC has attempted in many different ways to bridge the gap between UNIX wizards not so UNIX wizards.
It takes time, like they say “Rome wasn’t built in a day” (just how long did it take? anyone know?), its all a envolving process, pretty soon you’ll ask yourself, how come I didn’t join the IRC revolution sooner?

MemberMine is up close to 130, not bad for someone who spent the majority of his life rotting in front of network television.
Yours might be bigger, but I’ve got more pride for mine 😉

MemberMy thought is this, IM’s were originally designed to send plain ASCII messages from one user to another. I don’t really care what they are doing at the home or office, I don’t need a explaination “BRB – I am going to take a leak out in the neigbors bushes”.
I don’t need to see someone’s stupid bouncing animated gif, this went away with the model T didn’t it?
I don’t need to see when someone is getting around to responding my message: “[So and so is] typing a moronic reply to your senseless message…” I figure either they reply or they don’t no big deal either way.
I’ve already discussed why I thought file transfers were an idioitic idea so I won’t re-hash those thoughts again.
Why can’t we just go back to old school text messaging? It would eliminate a good portion of the computer intrusion attempts that go unreported by corporate america and private individuals each and every year.
