ParticipantThis error is usually just temporary or one off. In fact, I got it myself when I tried to sign in about 10 minutes ago, it should just fix itself with time.

ParticipantI’m here sometimes, I don’t post much so I feel a bit guilty ;( princeG has been doing a good effort in the MSN Messenger section. It was over a month between my last two posts.

ParticipantYep, MSN Messenger 7.5 introduces a new sign in interface and backend/platform.
I quote from the blog of a program manager for MSN Messenger:
Quote:The Identity Services team (passport) has created a client library called the Identity Client Run Time Library (or IDCRL for short). It provides a richer programming model and easier integration of passport authentication services into messenger. In other words: Improved Login functionality including reliability, auto-complete in the login address well; ability to save login information. As you’ve noticed, it is no longer stored in a core component of Windows XP, instead they’re stored in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftIdentityCRL.
Personally, I’m not liking that the e-mail addresses are stored in plain text, they usually make an effort to hide or mask them. The passwords appear to be solidly encrypted though, which matters more.

ParticipantHi TheWayThingsAre, welcome to BigBlueBall. The following steps have shown to resolve the error with number 80072ee6 (which was actually posted on the public newsgroups today, either a weird coincidence, or it’s you too :P)
Click Start, and go to Run.
Type the following: regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
Restart MSN MessengerThis re-registers the XML library on the system.

ParticipantIt spreads very quickly, one user downloads and installs it, it tells all their online contacts to download and install it (without the users permission, I think). Those that do install it, start the process over again, and it continues to spread like a plague! :S

ParticipantSometimes you’re country setting in your profile can affect this too, some people from Portugal didn’t have the option. I think it’s just a bug in the country specific settings. What country have you set in your passport/hotmail options?

ParticipantThat’s odd, it works better with TCP unchecked? If all of them are unchecked, then it should use a HTTP gateway instead, which isn’t really ideal because it’s slow and I think it polls the server for new data.
The only connection related difference between having all unchecked, and all but TCP unchecked is the port it uses to connect. With all unchecked, it should use port 80, and with TCP checked, it should use port 1863.
Do you have anything such as a firewall installed that might be blocking port 1863? Maybe even if you’re on a school or work network, it might be being blocked by an administrator.

ParticipantI think it’s the user sign in name and a null byte encrypted using CryptProtectData. There’s some more info here.

ParticipantDo you know how to use the registry editor?
You could just try deleting the value which stores the position and size of the IM window.
The value name is ‘IMWindowRect’, and is located at HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftMSNMessengerPerPassportSettings###
Where ### is a unique ID which represents your account. You can safely delete all IMWindowRect values in all sub-‘folders’ under PerPassportSettings if you’re not sure which one it is.
If you’re not sure on how to do this, I can give some clearer instructions.

ParticipantI *think* this might be caused by using an outdated version of Messenger Plus! If you have that installed, try downloading a newer version of it from http://www.msgplus.net/
If that’s not it, try clearing your MSN Messenger cache with this program.

ParticipantGood as pie!

ParticipantYeah it was, seems to be fine now.

ParticipantThat’s weird, never of it before… when it goes to create the message, does it load the instant message window as well? Or is it only the browser window?
Also, are you using any add-ons such as Messenger Plus!, StuffPlug, etc?

ParticipantUnfortunately, there is no easy way to do this, such as a using a URL like you can with Yahoo. The closest thing to it is using some API MSN Messenger exposes with VBScript, which limits it to only work in Internet Explorer. It is basically the same method Hotmail uses to intergrate into Messenger, take a look at some code samples here: http://forums.msnfanatic.com/index.php?showtopic=9916
Basically you would use some code like this (inside a function):
Code:dim MsngrObj
set MsngrObj = CreateObject(“MSNMessenger.HotmailControl”)
MsngrObj.InstantMessage(“bob@hotmail.com”)duphus
ParticipantAre you using an English version of MSN Messenger, but want to use Japanese as the main language? I don’t know too much about multi-language, but you can find a Japanese version here: http://messenger.msn.com/download/lang.aspx
