There must be a registry entry that is missing (I installed v7.5 on a computer that was freshly formatted/installed). I tried looking around YM’s registry but I couldn’t find a setting for the main window. For each profile there is a UI key but that controls the window for messaging with someone, not the main window. I’ll try the v6 patch and see what happens.
Edit: Even if you rename YahooMessenger.exe to Ypager.exe for the patch, it still will give you an incompatibility message and not let you patch the file so I guess Yahoo’s doing it different with v7.

You could use your Hosts file or Internet security settings to disable the web interface as well I suppose.
durercaMemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by BuddhaSmileHave you thought about using a messenger that only allows messaging? I have used a barebones (no audibles, imvironments, etc) messenger called TIM (Tiny Instant Messenger) to PM with my Yahoo friends. It is available here http://yahelite.org/client I am sure if you search there are other programs available also.
Thanks for the tip on that other client. I’m happy with the way messenger is set up now. The chat button is disabled on the program and there’s no chat entries on any of the menus either so all you can do is pm while all the other yahoo features are working.
durercaMemberAnd in case anyone wanted to use this edit to disable chat rooms for their kids, beware that other menu entries like “Join user in chat” can still be used to enter chat rooms. To disable those entries you need to hack some yahoo dll files but I’m not sure if I’m allowed posting that info here. Just keep in mind that this registry edit will not completely prevent access to the rooms.

Do this also to the Default Section
Thanks UnSaKreD for posting your reply. I’m pretty familiar with registry edits but I couldn’t find that key u mentioned. The root HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREYahoo!Messenger doesn’t exist for me. The closest I could find is HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREYahoo!PagerLocale. And wouldn’t the Dword key have to be written as “DisableChat” with no space? Thanks again for your help.
EDIT:
I’m using Yahoo v6 and your regedit worked. I just had to put the key in the root I mentioned HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREYahoo!PagerLocale. Also, you were right and the Dword value has to be written as “Disable Chat” with a space. May I ask where you found this regedit for Yahoo?durercaMemberI really like your Battleship Grey skin. I have a black Windows XP theme that I use and it fits really well with my color scheme. If you make something similar in a true black though I won’t complain! Thanks for your work.
durercaMemberThanks a lot for making these great skins sakred. Your silver one is my favorite but I’m still hoping that you’ll make something darker like a black skin.
durercaMemberWow! I can’t believe you added it that quickly. It was one of those things that’s a little annoyance with Yahoo. Thanks for putting that in.
I was reading earlier in your post here and you mentioned that Yahoo had a problem with Webcams freezing. I was trying to find more information about this because I don’t know if it’s the connection that’s interrupting it (I have 300kb/s though but maybe on the other end) or if it’s a problem in Yahoo. Have you heard any more about the issue or is it just an intermitten thing?
durercaMemberI was wondering if you ever considered adding Exit to the Login menu from the Yahoo Messenger so that you don’t have to always go down to the system tray icon to shut down the program.
