Hey, where is everyone else on this? Please chime in! 🙂
FanaticMemberAnd now 25 fans away from 100! Thanks everyone! Keep the love coming! 🙂
FanaticMemberBe sure to check out Social Network Wars. Very funny and pretty accurate view of MySpace, Facebook, et. al.
On a serious note, I wouldn’t read too much into them cutting their workforce. The economy the way it is, it makes sense, and they grew very rapidly. It’s good to cut out some of the fat and will help make them a little more nimble.
I’ve heard that MySpace, although slightly edged out by Facebook (mostly because of Facebook’s growth outside of North America), is still more profitable than Facebook.
Having said all that, I don’t have a MySpace page anymore, but I do have a Facebook page. So there.
FanaticMemberPhilip, hope the cataract surgery went smoothly and you are healing well.
This post is fine by me. I hope you are able to realize your dreams, and I’m glad you felt comfortable enough with us to let your needs be known. The staff here appreciates your participation and I’m sure we’ll all help in whatever way we can — even if only an encouraging word.
Your goals are big, but that’s the point. Go for it!
FanaticMemberOk, I’ve added you VvWolverinevV. I’m not sure what my privacy settings are right now, because I’m using Adium on the Mac. It *appears* that they are open to allow anyone to IM me, but perhaps something is messed up. Give it a try anytime.

Does Karaka (a Skype gateway. Vipadia – Products – Karaka ) do what we want?
Yes, but with a caveat. Here’s what they say on their web site:
Karakaâ„¢: Using with Google Talk
By default Karaka implements a XEP-0100 compatible XMPP transport, which cannot be accessed from a standard Google Talk client as it does not also support XEP-0100.
However, it is possible to run Karaka in ‘Google Talk Mode’ which enables standard Google Talk clients to register Skype accounts and have their Skype contacts show up alongside their Google Talk contacts.
Enabling Google Talk Mode
Follow the normal installation instruction to install Karaka, and when complete modify $TRUNK/karaka/chat.py so that CLIENT_MODE is set as follows:
CLIENT_MODE = “GOOGLETALK”
This will:Disable use of XEP-0144 for roster transfer, causing Karaka to send subscription requests instead.
Disable XEP-0045 multi-user chats and convert them into single user chats.
Register BotWithout XEP-0100 it is not possible to perform registration (account association) in-band. Registrations can either be entered manually into the database, or created by users accessing the register bot. The register bot is included in the distribution and configured though /etc/karaka-register.conf.
Users should add the register bot as a contact and then send it commands as normal messages:
register skypeaccount skypepassword
unregisterSuccess or failure will be reported as messages from the register bot.
FanaticMemberSpeaking of birthdays…. Happy Birthday, patndoris!
FanaticMemberThanks for the suggestion! Added!
FanaticMemberHave a great time at the beach!
FanaticMemberWow, not one staffer will send me an IM??
FanaticMemberWr can blacklist certain words, but that doesn’t put them into moderation. Interesting idea though… if someone uses a blacklisted word, instead of redacting it, push it to moderation so the public doesn’t see it. I’ll have to look into this…
FanaticMemberHow about make that 47 years and older, then you’ve got a deal! 🙂
FanaticMemberI believe changing the topic will still redirect the “old” url. The only parts of the URL that are really important are the thread number and the “.html” If those to parts are found, I’m pretty sure the rest will work. Give it a try! Just edit the URL in the address bar of your browser and see what happens.
And welcome to the team! I *will* be posting an official announcement today. I’ve been hit at home with a personal crisis that has limited my availability the past few days, but that has passed. When I get back from my ride this afternoon, I’ll write it up!
FanaticMemberI’ve sent him a PM welcoming him to the team and will be setting up his permissions shortly.
FanaticMemberI enjoyed the book okay, although the part where he falls from a plane with nothing but a cape (a robe? it’s been a while) and survives… that was a stretch.
