MemberBack in the days i used a frame with .css files to make my osi look nice.
You should use some basic html code for a start, for example put this line inside your ‘status.conf’ file (don`t forget to restart your osi service).
message=
body{border: 0 ; }
This line of code will create a frame inside your osi page where you could fill in some info or whatsoever.
The .css file makes it possible to change the way the basic osi page looks. (don`t forget to make it compatible with netscape/mozilla based browsers). This are just the basics but u`ll get the point i hope.

MemberCould you post a small part of the log here ? (10/20 lines)
Geoffrey
MemberHe doesn`t ‘register’, people are requesting the status of that person (that`s why there are lots of dynamic ip`s in your log). The status account is just on a busy site.
Normally i have the log file disabled, otherwise about 10/15 MB a day.

You should mail the person that has lots of requests, maybe his address is on a really busy website or something like that. You connection (even if its on low bandwidth) should be able to handle it all due to the build in cache in osi.
Quote:quote:My thoughts about flood protection:
If someone from a certain IP requests the same URL more than X times in Y seconds, disregard the request and close the connection.I have some accounts on my service(s) that have more then 10 requests a second due to busy sites.
You should monitor it for a few min to see what is really going on, and if you are able to do a ‘backtrace’ (packet filter etc..) you should be able to find out where te request(s) come from.

Memberlet me guess ‘chello’ ?
Geoffrey
Memberah well pressing enter 1 time isn`t that much work.
putty doesn`t force the jobs to stop, but your o/s is. when a term gets closed “dirty” it can hold all jobs you started. you really should always use “exit” when you logoff.
Geoffrey
MemberQuestion, when you are done in the terminal you type “exit” right ? does it say that it stopped [1++] jobs ?
Geoffrey
Memberno the enter is not required, but & should make it run as 100% daemon… so even if you quit the ssh session it should keep running.
Otherwise make a new “start” script.
[you@server path] vi start
“fill in”
/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01/bin/java -jar /path/to/your/status.jar &
use “ctrl + c” then “:w” then “:q”
in console again
[you@server path] chmod a+x start “press enter”
[you@server path] ./start
try this one.
Geoffrey
Member/usr/java/j2re…/bin/java -jar /path/to/status.jar &
& makes it run as a daemon in the background, just press “enter” 1 more time after it says “Starting server…” and you are done.
[edit]
and to stop it again (for updates e.a.)
/usr/java/j2re../bin/java -jar /path/to/status.jar stop
[/edit]

MemberOk, nice try here but this won`t work they way it should be.
The script doesn`t know what to accept as a offline or online status, in both cases u`ll always get “msnoffline.gif or msnonline.gif” back from the server (those images are default). But people are able to change those images to anything they want. (.bmp .png etc..)
Quote:quote:
Note: This script is only tested while being online, and it only works with MSN, but the code snippet should help you making your own to ICQ etc.It will just wait until it gets some kind of data from the service, this is also why it takes some time until the script get parsed by the server, so it would basicly always say the person is online if it doesn`t get any responce.
Keep up the good work 🙂
Geoffrey
MemberIts possible, but the user(s) or admin still has to set the account address.
the only line you need (html)
Code:Still if the forum is written in php / asp you could make a (if its supported) info bar where people should fill in there msn address and that the code automatically gets generated.
Code:Should do the trick.

Heh, ya, except Microsoft is a giant evil… Bla Bla Bla….– You should stop using windows then, dont use msn messenger anymore, dont use hotmail and move your site from a windows to a unix host.
Quote:quote:
Yes, JAVA is slow and sucks ass.– Sure, you are so totally right. Here have it your way.
Quote:quote:
Keeping the connection up even when there is not queries is a waste,– Sure just close the connection, then what ? the process dies (TTL !!!) and you need to reconnect again. (7 seconds further…Zzzz), but you already know that.
Quote:quote:
and php is able to keep the connection just as long as necessary.– Yeah just loop loop loop, send lots of requests to the server and hope to get response back (Waste of queries / connections ? neh !)
Quote:quote:
SMARTASS, in your little… // Read and think before you respond.– You should read the line again to see what my point is.
Quote:quote:
But its not like you need to worry…You sure act like you are try to “win” here, I am just making my point here. If you had the ability to think you would know that php isn`t the _platform_ to use.
And don’t even worry about working WITH me, I wouldn`t even hire you even if it was free. Your ideas are based on nothing then more then pure crap, same thing for the scripts on your website.

MemberI`ve written 1 in less then 30seconds !!!
for online status
for offline status[ontopic]
Why did you even bother asking for the source if you can re-write it yourself in 2 days ?
{snip}
No need for a re-write? Oh you mean besides the fact that its written in JAVA and is not open source, its slow, and it requires support in the browser.
{/snip}You should ask microsoft to send a copy of there Windows 2000 or XP source to your hotmail account.
What`s wrong with “not” being open source ? He build/wrote it, its his work, and if he doesn`t want to share the source SO BE IT !
Oh yeah right java is slow bla bla and Sun builds bad servers right ?
– Java is able communicate in every wich way and can keep connections OPEN. PHP can`t because the thread just stops at the end.
– Java is slow… osi doesn`t need any kind of gui, it functions as a daemon and uses childs that are less then 1k !
– It requires support in the browser ?!?… we aren`t talking about “javascripting” here. Osi generates its own html page(s) and can be fully customized. It isn`t depending on any webserver and its easy to recover with cronjobs.
So you`ve written it in php in 2 days, and its much faster then osi also ?Msn:
Connecting to a messenger server (4/5 seconds to get a full connection). Send the request (1/2) seconds. Get a responce from the server (1/2) seconds. and show the correct status.
ICQ:
You just ripped the string that`s on the icq page.
AIM:
See the msn part.
Yahoo same thing.
YOU ARE COOL !
Geoffrey
Memberu should try to make a new account on the (jabber.org) server, try to use no spaces etc and all lowercase. for password and user account name !
Geoffrey
MemberJabber isn`t able to logon if you are behind a proxy (socks 4/5) i`m not sure why but it seems that the software has problems with it, also if you are using a nat router that hasn`t got a good nat translation it will fail.
