MemberOK, I haven’t set my router back to its default settings yet, but today I had someone off bigblueball ask me if I had tried opening the ports up in my router that AIM uses so that it would stay connected. The ports are 5190-5193. And the answer is, yes. About two months ago, my father opened up those ports for AIM, and it STILL was disconnecting me. See now this makes me think that even once I do set the router back to its default settings, will that even make a difference? I mean, if AIM only uses those three ports, then I’m thinking that no matter what kind of settings I have on my router it would still disconnect me…I am only guessing though. Please correct me if I’m wrong. What do you guys think?

MemberI think what I am going to do, is to set my Netgear router back to its default factory settings. My dad set it up for all sorts of security protection, and I think maybe that is why it keeps disconnecting me, but I am not entirely sure. I will update this post once I set the router back to its default settings, and we’ll see what happens from there.

MemberTropical, I am using a Netgear wireless router. Before I had this one, I had a Linksys one, which was not wireless… that one worked fine. Only with the Netgear one I am having problems with.
CM_Ang_AIM, Gaim is a 3rd party messenger, sort of like Trillian. It lets you log onto multiple screen names from different providers. It will let you log onto Yahoo! ID, MSN, Jabber, IRC, ICQ and AIM. I would deffinetly suggest downloading it. I have no problems with it at all. In my opinion, it’s probably one of the best 3rd party messengers out there.
Here is the link on bigblueball that shows you all sorts of different 3rd party messengers to choose from, Gaim is the 8th one down from the list.

I’ve downloaded a bunch of those messengers off of that list, and most of them DO work, accept they are just slow and bulky. I’m not very fond of any of them, I’d say Gaim is the best.
If you want to download Gaim, here is their offical website. It will explain more about the program better than I can.
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/All I can say is that I have much better luck with Gaim then I do with the actual AIM messenger itself.

Memberthe only thing I can think of is that someone must have changed your password, and the email address that was registered with it. maybe try writing an email to AIM, and explain to them your problem. if they can’t get your screen name back, then well… sorry to say, your buddy list is lost.

Membergo into your AIM’s preferences. its in there somewhere to change it so that the person your typing to can see your typing a message.

MemberJ0ker, there is no Wireless Network Connection in My Network Connections… it only has Local Area Connection, which is disabled… and Local Area Connection 2, which is what I’m on. I’m not quite sure what I’m supposed to do, maybe I have to go into the routers preferences and change things… I’m not the one who set up the router, so I’m not about to go mess with things yet..but thank you for your advice.
CM_Ang_AIM, I know isn’t that a pain?.. What exactily are you doing on your computer to make it be slow? Maybe you have too many applications running at the same time, that can deffinetly slow down your computer a bit.
*UPDATE* (on my part at least..)
Still no luck with my AIM. It still disconnects me, so what I did, I downloaded Gaim (I had this program on Windows XP before. I had to wipe out my entire computer, damn Service Pack 2 messed it all up) and Gaim works beautifuly. It doesn’t disconnect me. I just thought maybe I would try to find a different 3rd party messenger for AIM… but oh well, I guess I’ll keep Gaim for now. The only reason why I’m making such a big deal out of my AIM being disconnected is because well… it shouldn’t be doing that, and plus I miss the setup of the profile AIM lets you use. As of right now, I’m going to go check out what else I can try to do to make my AIM stop disconnecting me. I’ll update this post later.heil_heineken
MemberPersonally, I’ve never had luck with AIM video. It never connected for some reason, therefor, I don’t use it…

MemberAs far as I know, you cannot be signed on AIM with your computer turned off. Sometimes, if you are signed into AIM and then suddenly shut down your computer without exiting out of AIM first, your screen name can stay online for awhile or so. And if I were you, I wouldn’t want my friends bothering me while I’m on vacation. After all, it’s a vacation, stay away from the drama for a while 😉

Memberi’m pretty sure that if you know the persons e.mail address that she is talking to, you can type that in the search aim database part…. im not exactily sure where it is on the messenger but it is in one of the drop down menus.
