Well, if you’re using firefox, I suggest using an add-on/extension called Stylish.
Instructions:
- Download Stylish and install it.
- Once installed, you’ll have to restart firefox, so please do so.
- When firefox has restarted successfully, look for an icon that looks like this at the bottom of your statusbar/browser window:
- Click on Write Style -> Blank Style
- Under description, I’d call it: ALL TEXT UPPERCASE
- Then, in the second text area, place the following code in there:
Code:body {
text-transform: uppercase !important;
} - Click save.
- Click the and go to Global Styles -> ALL TEXT UPPERCASE
This should work for most sites, but might require special tweaking for certain ones. Let me know and I’ll see if I can work it out. Using the Stylish extension allows for easy disabling, enabling and management of userstyles. I’d recommend it over using just firefox’s stock userstyles feature.
Hope this helps. Tell your friend that she’s an amazing individual for accomplishing such a feat.
Edit: Dave, !important is needed or your user style won’t take precedent.

imported_EvilSephMembervBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 5 is out.
vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 5 Released – vBulletin Community Forumimported_EvilSephMemberHaving spoken to detn8r, I’m going to give the Administration the benefit of the doubt.
I’ll be posting a few suggestions soon and hope they will not be followed by broken promises like they tend to be.
I’ve seen a change in Jeff and am glad to see him active, “less busy” and able to change things on BBB again.
Just to make my issues clear:
- I feel as if staff and their opinions are undervalued and hope this will change in the near future.
- I’d like to see BBB change for the better and hope that those as of yet broken or un-fulfilled promises will be kept.
- I’d prefer it if the Administration would not half-heartedly ask for suggestions and never do anything about them. If you don’t want our opinions, don’t ask for them.
- I feel as if Jeff is inadvertently distancing himself from the staff and his position is somewhat intimidating, but this may just be me. Though Jeff is undoubtedly a great guy…it just doesn’t feel right bugging him with idle chatter. Jeff, you come off to me as being more of a “boss” than a fellow member of staff and I guess my respect for you prevents me from chatting to you as…well, bosses don’t like that, and I don’t like to bother the people I respect.
Overall, I feel as if this time around, BBB will change and change for the better but I guess we’ll see. Count me in.
On a more personal note…I’m really sorry for my inactivity..but there is nothing I could have done to prevent it. If anyone wishes to hold this against me, so be it. I’m not making excuses and I’m not one to joke about having issues in life.
imported_EvilSephMemberIf this is still needed (or for anyone searching), this could be possible using UserStyles or UserCSS and the text-transform CSS property.
imported_EvilSephMemberBased on what Nessa said, disk fragmentation would not be the root cause of the problems as the system runs just fine after initial startup. A lot of startup programs or malware would likely be the cause as already stated.
However, I thought it would be important to point out that clearing your prefetch folder is NOT a good idea.
I could explain why myself, but I think more trusted sources would do the job better: a post by Ryan Myers of the Microsoft Windows Client Perform Team and a post by former PC World Editor Edd Botts.
imported_EvilSephMemberIn all honesty, the best anti-virus is based on user need so you’ll have to find the one that suits you the best.
However, in my opinion, nothing beats NOD32. Not only does it have frequent database updates, its heuristics system is one of the best (what actually really matters in an antivirus [the ability to catch viruses that haven’t been added to a database].
Symantec’s latest attempts at Norton are a definite improvement, but I’m still going to be staying away from them based on past experience.
Anyway, I’ve used them all. I’m always on the search for a better alternative and, as of yet, have been unable to find a program that could replace NOD32.
imported_EvilSephMemberI think you should re-read my posts Dave as “my choice in CMS” is not the issue here. If things were different and the CMS choice was the only time we were not listened to, then I wouldn’t mind as much. If we were flat out told it doesn’t matter what we think or say, OK. That’s one way to run a community and site and we – or at least, I – would have accepted it. But we weren’t.
Whether or not staff was “handed out like candy” as you say is irrelevant. Here you go again, judging everyone because they don’t seem to be as good as you. You are not me. You are not everyone else. You do not know how we feel or what we think about and so, you do not know if we hoped we could help BigBlueBall, change it and give back to it. I know that is originally why I accepted the position – because I liked this place.
The comment that positions were given out like candy is a sore one as it further shows that we’re undervalued. You sound like the kind of person who’d bitch and moan when someone is brought in above you because they were not subjected to the same treatment as you. Just because we may have been given the position because “there was a need”, does not mean we do not measure up to your greatness or have not proven our worth. Looking at the past happenings in BigBlueBall, I’d say the rest of the staff deserve to be here. I see you haven’t stopped looking down on everyone not as good or better than you.
Who are you to judge whether someone is not contributing something or “not doing anything”? Different people contribute in different ways. Some people tell their friends about this place, some people spend countless hours providing support in the forums, other people spend countless hours making sure the forums are clean and others do other things. Just because not everyone is given the opportunity to be as great as you does not mean they couldn’t be or that their contributions do not measure up to yours. Look around you, has anyone else been given as much opportunities to give back as you have been? No. So they find their own way of giving back to the community they (once) loved.
From day one, we were encouraged to interact with each other, get to know each other and make suggestions for a better BigBlueBall. Each time someone made a suggestion and there was a positive response from the staff, we’d receive praise for the suggestion and promises that changes are coming. Naturally, this encourages people to contribute their ideas but when the ruse is up and the cat is out of the bad – what has happened to BigBlueBall is what happens; the staff feel undervalued and no longer wish to give their heart and soul into this community.
However, and I’m still not sure why everyone else is not really able to voice their opinions on here, that wasn’t the first time, nor the second, or third. I, like a lot of the staff, are obviously going to tire of giving feedback, input and priority or dedication to this community if we aren’t treated like the friend we thought we were.
Time and time again, we’ve spent countless hours discussing things that we all – or most of us – believe will make a difference on BigBlueBall and time and time again, we are given the same, meaningless promise of change to come but it’s a new year already and none of the proposed changes have been made. None of the promises made have been kept.
I know for a fact there are others who share my views but I guess I am the only one confident enough to speak out against anyone. I liked – no – I loved BigBlueBall. It was breath of fresh air every time I came on here and saw how friendly everyone was and how helpful everyone was. After detn8r invited me to join here and answer a few questions, I was hooked. There was no better community at the time – everyone was friendly, everyone was helpful and everyone was valued. Everyone. Every staff member, every member. Hell, even every guest.
Having been here for a while, I started to notice a few things that if were changed, would help push BigBlueBall even further. So I posted about them, out of respect, in the staff forums. Possibly the biggest mistake I could ever make. A few days go by, responses accumulate. Positive. Good. Oh, look, even the Admins like it and have promised it’ll happen. Excellent, I’ve given back to BigBlueBall like I first intended to when I accepted this position.
Days, weeks, months – no, years – later. Still nothing. Of course, in that span of time, I’ve given a few more suggestions, all with the same praise and the same promises. And I was happy.
Nothing.
After these few times I was run around in circles and not treated with the respect I thought I had earned, I started to move around, looking for a replacement for BigBlueBall. Unfortunately, there was none. So I stayed, hoped things would change but nothing did. Nothing has. The staff are still as undervalued as they were a while ago and I can see they reacted quite closely to how I did.
Suggestions given. Praise received. Promises made.
Nothing.
So I, and everyone else, have started to give back what we receive in hopes it would go noticed and changes would result:
Nothing.
imported_EvilSephMemberI think we all came on as staff (read: accepted the position offered) because we hoped we could help BigBlueBall, change it and give back to it.
The reason why I hardly gave any feedback regarding BigBlueBall was because of the aforementioned issue – it doesn’t matter.
Not everyone is given the opportunity to give back to BigBlueBall like you were, so you really have no way of judging if we have given back to BigBlueBall or not or if we’ve done anything at all for BigBlueBall. I’ve done a lot of things for BigBlueBall that I’ve chosen not to gloat about and not take credit for. Just because you do not see me or anyone contributing in a visible way to BigBlueBall does not mean we aren’t. And neither does it mean our contributions are any less valuable than yours.
I used to pore my heart and soul into this community and site, and anyone else saying otherwise is rather insulting. I have also given my fair share of feedback, gotten my fair share of promises of change and nothing has resulted despite frequent reassurance that things will change, suggestions will be implemented etc. Nothing.
Instead, I see effort more focused on what one person wants rather than what the whole team wants. At times, we’re a team and we’re treated as such but often times, it’s up to Jeff and to quote Jeff: “This isn’t open for discussion. […]”. If that’s the case, I don’t see why I should be giving my opinion on anything since it is not even considered, let alone valued.
imported_EvilSephMemberHello everyone!
I’m not sure where to start, but here goes anyway.
First off, I’d like to apologise for my absence from BigBlueBall but I’m afraid it could not be avoided.
This last year has been…a bit crazy for me. A lot of personal issues that I’ve had to deal with and…then falling really ill, scared I may have a fatal disease.
In truth, I took a break from everything I did not have direct influence over because I knew places like BigBlueBall and other communities can survive without me. This is not the case with the places I run so I focused whatever energy I had on these places instead.
I’m generally getting back on my feet and feeling better but there are some problems I have with BigBlueBall (and the way it is run) that I think I should at least voice my opinion on. Whether or not my opinion is taken to heart, is up to you but it is the accumulation of an opinion formed while thinking really hard about everything in life and talking to and hearing everything everyone else has to say.
BigBlueBall was not one of my primary areas to which I was going to focus whatever little energy I had for a few reason: it is self-maintained by its staff, staff opinions or at least my opinions are hardly ever truly taken to heart and keeping up with my knowledge on MSN/WLMsgr is directly attributed to being active on MSN/WLMsgr and keeping in contact with a rather large group of people – something I wasn’t well enough to do at the time.
Two of those reasons are self explanatory, the one left is a story in itself. Throughout my time here, as a BigBlueBall staffer, I’ve noticed one, key thing missing from this internal, staff, community. I noticed it from day one when I’d browsed through the archives of this staff forum. I noticed it each time I made a suggestion; no matter how much praise a suggestion received, hardly anything was ever done to implement these suggestions.
The most obvious event would be the discussion on the new site engine. When people are asked for their opinions, they expect them to at least be listened to and this was not the case when considering the new BigBlueBall. Better alternative site engines could possibly have been found with proof but it wouldn’t matter. No one would listen anyway and Jeff put his foot down.
So, I moved my priorities around and BigBlueBall was no longer number 1. This was once a community I poured all my heart and soul into, posted suggestions for and so on, but with each suggestion posted, praise received and lack of action accompanying, my dedication to BigBlueBall waned. I just gave up giving suggestions in the hopes I could look past this not-caring-for-what-we-think attitude but then, obviously, the other staff gave their suggestions and then too, did this attitude show up and their suggestions were, too, buried in the BigBlueBall archives.
I assure you, I’m not alone when I feel that our opinions matter little to BigBlueBall – just look at how many staff have become inactive. All it takes is a quick browse of the Staff archives to find more examples of this issue. So, that being said, I decided to direct whatever energy I had, in to a place I know would want or need it: my own sites and communities.
Secondly, I don’t think going back to a formal teams system is a great idea. Sure, we could have an internal teams system but keep BigBlueBall how it is – it lets us cover more ground. We just need to form internal teams so that there is at least a few people pushing others to contribute and provide moderation as well as guidance if required. This system we’ve changed to could definitely work and would be more beneficial if used correctly than switching back to the formal teams system.
Lastly, my expertise is applicably rather broad but the obvious one would be MSN/WLMsgr.
Whether or not I wish to continue on the team remains to be seen if the key issue I’ve outlined in this post is dealt with or not. And whether or not you guys want me back too.
On a happier note, yay, I’m 19.
imported_EvilSephMemberAll those requests do is allow you to decide whether or not you wish for other people to have access to your MSN profile information over Windows Live Messenger – that is it.
It has no relation to who you choose to have or not have on your contact list.
July 14, 2007 at 2:26 am in reply to: The near perfect method to see who has you blocked on MSN? #162789imported_EvilSephMemberNothing new. Whenever someone asks how to check who blocked them, they’re looking for a program, not a method. Besides, it doesn’t work on everyone as you stated and it surely does not work on me. I only accept people I know are adding me.
This method is neither near perfect or even slightly perfect. There is currently no reliable way to check who blocked you.
imported_EvilSephMemberHi there,
Sorry for the very late reply but here is the answer:
Remote Desktop *requires* Windows Messenger to function and by running that script/command to remove the old Windows Messenger, you’ve removed Windows Messenger completely (which is why I recommend against using it…).Now that you do not have Windows Messenger installed, there is no way Remote Desktop will work unless you reinstall Windows Messenger.
imported_EvilSephMemberThe file is deleted immediately when the transfer is terminated.
imported_EvilSephMemberNot a problem!
Sorry for the delayed reply, I’ve been busy, tired and not feeling well. 😛
