MemberFirst of all, I use classic.
Secondly I installed a bunch of updates and the problem seems to have gone…for now…I don’t want to jinx it or anything.

I’m going to have to agree with Philip on this one. Living in a state of having to rollback is not a good experience for you.
One question first…how much RAM do you have on the machine?
3 gigabytes of RAM
Anyway I’m starting to wonder if perhaps the hard drive enclosure I tried to use to transfer files that didn’t work may have something to do with it. It said it wasn’t compatible with Vista, but it installed the driver and everything okay, but the actual enclosure was never read. Maybe I need to get rid of the driver.
Well on top of that I installed a windows update and 3 optional updates then and restarted last night then went to bed letting it restart. Perhaps that may fix the problem, I’ll have to check when I get home. The needed update was from February and had something to do with Windows verification or something; I forget.

MemberIt doesn’t have a disc but it does come with a recovery partition I can use, but I want to see if I can solve it without doing that first.
Mmm I don’t recall it happening with IE but I rarely use IE so I wouldn’t know. Sometimes it happens with Windows Explorer, too. Like opening up a folder and the contents doesn’t load fully and it doesn’t respond and the more I press anything else the more stuff freezes until I’m forced to restart (with the power button, as it’s frozen enough even if I manage to get to Start > Restart/Shutdown it doesn’t work when I press it).

MemberI turned it on again and I didn’t see Comodo Anti-Virus in add or remove programs.
The computer froze up again and I restarted in safe mode and removed AVG…and it seemed to have solved the problem.
Then I look in my programs folder and I see Comodo Anti-Virus in there with the files inside…
Apparently it’s in there just not installed? Should I just delete that folder?
Kacen
MemberI was under the impression it didn’t install completely, but that could be the problem.
I shall look into that.
When I log on it just tends to cause my firewall and then everything to freeze to the point that I have to restart. It’s rather obnoxious. When I get home I’ll see what I can do, gonna need to stop some processes soon after I log on.

MemberOkay I installed AVG 7.5 it took a few tries I kept getting errors and freezes.
When it tried to update it kinda froze and I had to restart the computer…and I don’t want to try updating it again…not sure what the problem is…

MemberI’ve used that for a period of time on my old machine, I suppose I’ll install that until they update Comodo Anti-Virus for Vista. Thanks.
Kacen
MemberYeah I have such computer anxiety. >_<; I'm glad I solved it…
What’s sad is apparently Comodo Anti-Virus isn’t compatible with Vista…hmm…
Kacen
MemberI solved the problem. I downloaded the Norton Removal Tool on my old computer and transfered it over to my new machine and used it. And now the internet works.
Ugh I hate Norton so much.
Kacen
MemberI do intend to Remove Norton and replace it with Comodo products.
And patndoris how recently did you do that?

MemberUgh I’m so stupid the only free connector in my motherboard is a floppy drive connector, that’s what it was, I know that. I just forgot.
Anyway the problem however remains my old drive isn’t compatible plus I got one of those Hard Drive USB enclosures and it wasn’t compatible with Vista so I’m gonna return it man this is causing me a lot of anxiety.
Kacen
MemberWell I saw posts hinting that it did cause a problem but they updated it relatively recently but I don’t want to take that chance. I need to confirm this.

MemberWell as a secondary option I’ll just attach it as a secondary drive to a whole new computer with it’s own operating system. That’s the best choice.
Like I did with my old comp’s hard drive…that way I don’t have to use CD’s to move files.
Still gonna be a pain to re-install everything.

MemberOh so I would have to re-activate my current Windows XP Installation on there? Wow…
That’s weird…I’m not even planning to re-install anything. So while booting in safe mode it will make me have to re-activate it while the drivers are being installed, or something?
Oh and btw he not she…
