Thanx!
Hi Bearie….if you mean the video carousel in Windows Live Messenger, it can be disabled by going to “Tools” “Options” “General” and unticking the “show video carousel” box. All that shows up then are the normal ads.katesMemberMuddy Waters – “Whiskey Blues”
katesMemberNick….not sure, I checked all the settings and couldn’t find anything there apart from the option to “show what’s playing”……..think I might stick to your programme
katesMemberProblem solved!!! At last I have my new pc so privacy no longer such an issue.
Nick…. I have the latest version loaded and it’s working like a dream…thanks
Have also tried the Yahoo Music Engine plugin which works well EXCEPT that if I happen to be “offline to everyone else” – as soon as a song is played it changes the status to “online to everyone else” (not really sure that’s a problem but I would imagine that if someone had deleted a buddy from their list then they would be showing as visible????).
Thanks to everyone for their help.katesMemberThanks for that…and the article is an interesting read. Have made the file read only as suggested (and yes it does recreate itself if deleted).
katesMemberIn no way do I claim to be an expert here and my only intention was to advise that when I tried to dl the programme, there was a problem. Bad timing perhaps. In response to Kumari’s post, I do have my AV and Spyware programmes running and updated on a regular basis….
Have checked the file again and this time it is clean.katesMemberI remember watching a show on tv where this young guy from the US flew into Australia to meet his online love. They’d been online friends for a couple of years and the relationship grew from there. Unfortunately he’d used up practically all his savings to get here and was stopped at customs as he had no visible means of support for his stay. Anyway to cut a long story short, they contacted his Aussie girlfriend who vouched for him and they went off together. Sad thing was that 3 days later he was back on a plane to the US, totally dejected as things had not gone the way they had hoped.
I felt so sorry for him as I imagine he’d saved for ages to get here and he didn’t even get to have a holiday to remember.
Guess that’s one of the pitfalls of an online relationship….you get all the good stuff and the fuzzy feelings (in part I think because you can’t actually be together) so the expectations are high when you finally meet. We all have faults and unfortunately those rarely surface until you actually spend time together. Not to say that online/distance relationships can’t work….just an observation.katesMemberthanks babebounce2004..I have the archive bit covered but the file I was talking about is “ypager.log” (and also “yacs.log” ocassionally found in my Windows directory), where there is a log recorded, not showing IM’s but does show all id’s of messages sent and received.
katesMemberI’ve turned off the Archive options…but the log still shows all the id’s of any im’s sent and received (not that it’s a big deal but some people seem to get a kick out of checking it out and that’s annoying.) No matter, I’ll just continue to delete the log etc…and yes you’re right, the status changer isn’t really necessary. New pc on the way just for me then this won’t be an issue any more.
katesMemberI’m absolutely certain that the Trojan came from that source as you will see from the AVG log file below.

katesMemberSorry, yes it’s the browser links that seem to be playing up. I’ve discovered that it happens with Skype also. I’ve checked the file associations as you indicated and all that appear seem to have the correct browser settings. The only one I don’t have appearing in the list is the “URL:Call To Protocol”
Could it be this missing file association that is causing the problem? and if so, can I add it?katesMemberI have problems, not logging in, but with the links in Yahoo Messenger….1. when I click on the mail icon I cannot access mail…..2. in my mail it indicates I have a voice message but when I get into Messenger there is nothing showing…3. link to profiles doesn’t work…..etc etc
