MemberThat’s the strange thing – I have the archive function turned on but there is no “Profile” folder. Going to c:program files yahoo messenger directory I see folders for: Cache ext imvcache logs Media Plugin and skins. I’ve checked each of these folders and still no “profiles”. I dont know where the new version of YIM even stores archives anymore.
Anyone else come up against this?
Thanks in advance….

MemberJust to close out the thread – Spy Sweeper has now issued a new release of the program and new definitions. I upgraded to both and no longer have any key logger hits related to Buddy Spy.Cheers

MemberSince I originally started the thread there have been a number of posts on other sites noting the SpySweeper flagging uninstall programs as being the “Golden Eye” keylogger. You can read about it in the following thread:

This appears to be a false hit problem for a number of programs scanned by Spy Sweeper. Someone from Webroot, which makes Spysweeper, posted a response saying they would correct the problem when they released their next round of definitions. Haven’t been able to test it myself yet but will keep people posted when I do. Cheers!

MemberOk – perhaps this one is less relevant but still might be interesting:
Is there a way of getting the local time of the person being scanned?

MemberProfessor Unsakred –
First congratualtions on the latest version of Buddy Spy. It rocks both in terms of features and stability. A couple of suggestions for future updates follow:
1. It would be nice if there was an option such that the Scan History List only listed people who had actually been “online”. I mean think about it. Do you really need a record that someone was NOT online? You would know they were not online just due to the fact their name was not in the history list. With this modification it would be far easier to review an overnight log as to who had been online/in what room etc.
2. I do like the idea of having a wav file play when someone is online or has gone offline (per a previous post.) Would be great if you could associate different types of wav files with different screen names. You know one for friends, one for enemies, one for people who owe you money, etc. Also, please enable a feature to select that it only buzzes the first time some is detected logging on..or logging back in. The wav file thing could get old if you have a lot of friends that are always online and your computer keeps play a “jingle bells” wav file non stop.
3. Alias Screen Name Detector – this is of course the gold standard. I know that you have looked at this in the past and I include it here not to nag but to let you know that people would find it of interest. Does your research lead you to believe this feature is even feasible? Has anyone ever accomplished this feat? If you dont think it is, I’ll drop the issue and not raise it again! lol
Keep up the good work!

MemberHave been testing the latest version of buddy spy. My conclusion is that its much more prone to giving “false positives” that someone is online. I’ve tried using the different scanning methods so far “peer to peer” has the lowest incidents of false positives. I’ve also tried switching off the scan for webcams and chatrooms but this didnt seem to improve much. I’ve also tried switching to different yahoo servers but not much difference there either.
For now, I will likely stick with using an earlier version of buddy spy until some of the kinks get worked out. Which of the scanning methods do the early versions use? I do like the ergonomics/designs of the latest release. Hopefully you can get these last few bugs worked out. Cheers…

MemberHi – anyone have a mirror site to download the latest version of buddy spy? I’m not able get it off http://www.buddy-spy.com/ . Thanks in advance!

MemberUnsakred –
to tell you the truth, I vote that the room icon NOT show if it isnt getting a packet response from the server. Having the icon show one whether or not a packet returns increases the rate of false positives. At least you know that its a server load issue and that it is possible someone is in a room. Cheers!

MemberSorry previous post should have read
“I’m NOT so sure it’s a server load issue…”

MemberIn regards to the post about the “check chat room” feature, I’m so sure its a server load issue. I kept my previous version of Spy Buddy installed on my computer and that seems to run the chat room feature just fine. I then go to the latest version and the feature is missing. Havent been able to get it appear in any of my tests so far. Anyway, just wanted to pass that info along. Cheers.

MemberJust tested version 1.0.21. Good news it no longer crashes when I reload list and seems to be more accurate. The bad news is the “check chat room” function no longer seems to work. I dont get the third icon coming up for “chat room” under a scanned users name under this version as I did with older versions (even when the user was not in a room.) I’ve clicked that function on and off, I’ve tried different servers, restarted the program, etc. It’s like this function has been disabled when I run it.
Well that’s my latest report from the field. Keep up the good work.

MemberJust following up on the comments regarding a “Detect Aliases” feature. Is detecting other aliases even possible with Yahoo messenger? Can it be added to Buddy Spy or are there other programs that people can recommend? Many thanks
zbig
MemberFound a minor glitch in Buddy Spy. When I load a saved list of friends and hit “Check” everything proceeds fine. But when I hit “check” a couple minutes later to update the status of listed names…nothing changes even though I know they have. Basically, I then hot to close the program, restart, reload to get the current info.

MemberJust updated today to Buddy Spy 1a. I am getting people showing up in both types of rooms be they user created or not. What confused me initially was if someone is using an unknown “alias” in the room then they will still show up as “online” but not necessarily in the chat room. Poeple should make certain that they have the correct alias name being used in the chat room matching that used to scan in Buddy Spy when checking if this feat works or not.
In a wish list of things to have one day two features come to mind:
1. if there was an autorefresh that could scan through the list of contact and use a wav file to notify users if someone’s status had changed just like Y messenger that would be great.
2. If there was a way of detecting a user’s unknown alias name and the room they were using it in that would be outstanding! I looked into alias checkers, and never came across a reputable one that worked. I’m not sure that this second feature is technically possible
Awesome program by the way – keep up the good work and THANKS!!

MemberTom – my guess is it a front for them to steal a password directly or its an html page they are passing out to subscribers of their newsletter to be used for stealing passwords. Either way its pretty slimey!
