Thans a lot! Finally a solution that worked! I terminated the ad-watch and the installation worked like dream!
Quote:quote:Originally posted by Wackyguy18I also had the problem of Installing MSN 6 because of 1603 error. I figured out that a pop up stopper program of mine was causing this.. If you have ad-aware 6 and have ad-watch activated, right click the icon in the taskbar and chose terminate, then install..
If this helped anyone please tell me, I want to know if this was actually causing it. Thanks!
May 21, 2004 at 12:36 am #57621insaneeditorMemberI’ve tried all of these solutions to no avail. I seem to have the same exact message as someone else with Windows ME. Anyone have a solution that worked on Windows ME?

After you have the setup for MSN Messenger downloaded try this
1. Go Into My Computer
2. Click on Add/Remove Programs
3. Click Install
4 Click Next (It Will Search For A Drive)
5. Click Browse and Locate setup install file and installI hope this works for somebody. It worked for me!

Every time I try to install MSN Messenger 6.1 I get this message:
“Cannot write to C:WindowsSystemrtcres.dll. Please verify that you have access to that directory.”
It says it’s error type 1603, and I’ve tried most of the fixes mentioned here, but none have worked. So far, I’ve managed to get Messenger 5 installed, but I can’t get any further than that.
Can someone help please?

July 8, 2004 at 8:54 am #57557Jeff HesterKeymasterI got the 1603 error message and here is what I did.
We have several people who use our 2 computer but my husband and myself are the administors.
1. I went to the main administrators window
2. I went into start, run , msnconfig, startup tab
3. I disable MSN msgr or msmsgs anything that pertained to windows messenger.
4. clicked apply & ok
5 . rebooted6. went to the site again and downloaded it again and viola everything installed correctly.
July 28, 2004 at 12:33 am #57626eccentrixMemberFinally sumthing that worked for me!!! i’ve been searching for weeks now but I finally found a solution to my error 1603 problem, I got this off of another forum, so im basically copy and pasting lol…neways here goes!!
I went to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details…&displaylang=en
I downloaded the newest version of Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows. I am using Windows ME, so for me it was a file called InstMsiA.exe.
As soon as the file was installed(I did not reboot), I tried re-installing Messenger Setup9x, and IT WORKED! It installed perfectly.
hope this helps my comp is Windows Me too!!!

September 16, 2004 at 3:05 am #57628xruriMemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by Ice³I found that the renaming the temp folder in winsxs worked.
Now for those who are complaining about this :
3. Then Rename the file “x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.Dxmrtp_6595b64144ccf1df_5.2.0.4868_x-ww_212f7d9e” to “x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.Dxmrtp_6595b64144ccf1df_5.2.0.4868_x-ww_212f7d9e2”.
just look for files with the same setup they may have different numbers but look for files with….
x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.Dxmrtp at the start and add a 2 at the end. I fopund 2 such files and renamed them with the 2 and suddenly volia the thing installed and ran correctly. 😀this worked for me when fixing the application configuration error. I only found one folder to rename though
just wanted to say thanks a lot 🙂October 13, 2004 at 6:27 pm #57629jozMemberI tried quite a few solutions for error 1603 including those at the top of this thread.
In the end I spotted Wackyguy18’s ‘adaware’ problem and tried that and to my amazement it worked.
I also had problems installing .NET 2.x beta and disabling adwatch.exe while installing fixed this problem too.
Thanks Wackyguy18!
