It works fine for me. I haven’t experienced any such problem. I can send links to users using BETA, regular version and even to trillian users. And it also shows my status correctly. Though it didn’t show me online on trillian, but that happens sometimes with trillian. My friends with regular yahoo can see my status correctly.

Um, not necessarily. You still do not have a choice of freedom to pick your own animated images. Although that is a small draw back, the avatars some what make up for it.
May 1, 2004 at 12:32 pm #46134OreoMemberHas anyone else had troubles accessing voice and/or the text customizing options in chat? They seem to be intermittant problems…perhaps it’s just the time of day or servers I have??? Just wondering 🙂
May 1, 2004 at 3:31 pm #46193PiNkEyMemberI had problem getting and keeping voice with the new beta version of messy but it seems my problems were due to YtunnelPro….now Ytunnel has been updated to work with Beta I’m having no problems.

May 3, 2004 at 6:13 pm #46142NettiMemberOreo, I have not had a problem with voice, other then the fact that when you go into a room, you must click voice on. Unlike the old messenger it does not automatically connect you to voice (at least mine doesn’t). So I click voice once, sometimes twice because I don’t get notice on the bottom of the screen that it’s connecting to the voice server. But so far, no voice problems.
I would be interested to know what else is Missing from the new Beta version. I have found a few things, some mentioned here, like the Join User (which comes in handy when you can’t seem to get into a room), and the follow user button (which is fun when you want to go room hopping as a group). I did have a hard time finding some other options, but did locate them, they were just worded differently. I know there was another option missing, but can’t remember what it was off the top of my head.
The only problem that we (friends in our room) have been having really is the avatars. We have all been able to make them, but no one can see the other persons avatar. However, if you choose to put a picture up instead, we can get that to work. But It will NOT work with the person you are chatting with while you are putting up your picture. However the second person you PM with will see your picture. I found the defaults with the pictures did not work. Even tho I put in to only share my picture to ONE particular person, it would change the default to show everyone.
Bound to be some glitches, but that’s the only one I have experienced so far. A friend who is on dial-up has what he refers to as studdering audiables. It’s like it get stuck and just says ba ba ba ba ba over and over – it’s actually pretty funny, but it does get sent sooner or later.
May 4, 2004 at 4:40 pm #46195brykc14MemberAnother thing that is missing is the option to invite a user into the chat room. the option is there in conferance but not in a regular chat room. With that feature being gone and the feature to follow user. It is impossible to make a private room and have someone join.
May 5, 2004 at 6:59 am #46194Sweet_Babee_JMemberI think I’m becoming obsessed with downloading programs I don’t necessarily NEED. And Yahoo Beta is just spoiling me with ridiculous goodies.
…Me like.
May 5, 2004 at 10:24 am #46126ZapTheDingbatMemberat work at the moment so I dont have my packet sniffer. Is Beta still using YMSG11 protocol?
Looking at all thease new “features” im guessing we’r working on an over hauled protocol.
I appear to be the only one whos slightly worried about the maras of new data fomats ymsnger is now dealing in. Im shure we all remember the security hell that AIMs avatars gave us! Oh well looks like im in for some serious Security testing…
I Notice yahoo still havn’t fixed the script injection vulnerabilities in ther’e login page
http://www.zapthedingbat.com/Arh well. ill give you an update after iv givent i’t a bit of hammer.
May 7, 2004 at 3:21 pm #46141forsakenMemberThis new(beta) messenger is using too many system resources. I’m on a WinMe system. The first day I used this beta messenger it worked fine. Had my computer on all night, with many programs open…no problems at all. Then the next day I have to reboot every 30 mins or so because of low system resources. I close messenger and my computer runs fine but when I have it open, even with two other programs open(Winamp and Msn), I can’t run my computer for long. I reinstalled 5.6 and everything is fine again.
Is anyone else having this same problem on WinMe? I found there’s not much that can be done other than upgrading to XP. Maybe someone on here knows a way to fix this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
May 7, 2004 at 3:49 pm #46168matthewMemberNo wonder Windows ME is crap, not very popular because it crashes often I think you should upgrade to xp.
May 7, 2004 at 5:53 pm #46197trinitronMemberI love the BETA, but where do I see the number of unread emails (like in 5.6) that I can click on to bring up yahoo mail??
May 8, 2004 at 8:50 am #46181soulweaverMemberYes… THere seeems to be a problem while sending URLs I tried sending URL’s and my friend has not receivid it… but it is okay when I post some thing like http://www.bigblueball.com …
Direct links to files seems to be a problem, my be yahoo has done it to stop people from running “malicious code” or Hijacking peoples ids…
And has anyone noticed that Y! Beta is taking up around 25Megs of RAM with LaunchCast Radio playing??
