Torseq Tech.
MemberDetn8r: It’ll be a one time charge with all updates being free for the life of the progam (same deal with Y!TunnelPro). It will be pretty similar to it as they both work the same way to do what they do you could say. They use a lot of the same methods and concepts for the flexibility that both of our programs provide.
As far as pricing goes Y!TunnelPro (which offers a very similar featureset give or take some of them) used to sell for $17.00 USD. That price has since went up with 2.5’s release to $22.50. The price range for YTK Pro will probably be in the vicinity of $20.00 to $25.00 at a one time charge. I’ve done some price checking on my own and have seen the author of YahElite asking for donations/contributions of $30.00 for his client. I’ve seen tools written by Visual Basic programmers that tend to only perform a limited amount of duties going for anywhere from $15.00 to $35.00. While some of them might be worth that to some to others it might not be worth the full $30 or $35 dollars even with updates so a set price can’t appeal to everybody, there’ll always be people that’ll disagree with the figure.
YTK Pro itself, just like Y!TunnelPro, isn’t a single ALG (Application Layer Gateway) but in fact a complete “set” of them specifically designed around Yahoo! Messenger’s services (voice, pc-2-pc calling, chat, cam etc). Each ‘service’ requires a knowledge of it’s inner-workings (meaning it’s protocol and operation) with us being in charge of writing a packet assembler for each, custom parsing routines and developing the systems to make it all work per service. So, getting back to the initial price, it will probably debut in the $20 to $25 range which we think is more than fair for all that it will be able to do as a first beta release to the public.

Member$20 to $25 seems really fair to me. When it launches, I’ll be sure to be one of the first to purchase this program. 😉

MemberOne feature that I was thinking of adding is per-user logging of chat room messages (with timestamps). Messenger allows you to save the chat room conversations and all but if you only wanted to save text from specific users you’d have to wade through a sea of messages that aren’t what you want to see logged. I try and think of useful options that could be added each and every day, I’ve already got a decent list and your suggestions have been noted, kingofchaos. Lots of nice things are planned regardless of the amount of work that some of them will require. 🙂

MemberThat’s a nice idea. Like flag certain people in chat rooms to log for example. That’s a very good idea.

MemberI have a question about privacy concerns regarding this program. I know that Y!TunnelPro saves your login id and password to their servers when you sign in with it as to prevent people from “stealing” their program. Yes I said it, Y!TunnelPro saves all their users ID and Password to their servers. As much as I am for preventive measures from illegally acquiring the program, I do not like the idea of having my yahoo id and password being stored on someone’s server whether it be secure or not. So my question is will this program be loggin our username and password to your server as well or will you be implementing some other method whether it be hardware based to be assigned with the serial key?

MemberThat’s just an urban legend. All it does is log attempts of using the same key from different IP addresses. They DO NOT log IDs and passwords.

MemberDoesn’t sound like an urban myth to me. The moderator for the Y!TunnelPro forums, Donna, even stated it in one of her posts replying to a user why his/her key was disabled. This is what she said: “I replied to your forum PM…….when we disable a key, it is because of activity that occurs OUTSIDE of your family use……we keep a log, and it shows key usage all over the country, different IPs, different user names, different ISPs, many factors go into this decision before a key is disabled….your key has been shared, whether you were the one who shared it or not is not our concern, as when you purchased, it was with the agreement that the key would be secured and your responsibility.” So you see she says they log all that info. Sounds kinda like spyware.

MemberEnigma666:
YTK will never violate your privacy. No usernames or passwords are stored remotely via a private server or locally to harddisk, that is potentially a privacy risk. Hardware fingerprinting techniques usually fair well combined with a server authentication system (Online Licensing Scheme).
kingofchaos6669:
Can’t comment much on YTP as it has it’s own way of authenticating however I’m certain you are right with what you said. I haven’t looked at how Chet is doing it.

MemberEnigma666, I think she ment the Windows username or Computer username, not Yahoo usernames.

ParticipantAs to how much will the “Pro” and “free” differ?
October 2, 2006 at 5:12 am #155823Torseq Tech.
MemberThe free version will definitely be more capable than the old Y!Tunnel Basic program that Chet was offering at no charge. I can’t give you an exact feature set for the free to compare and contrast against the Pro because that’s still being decided. I can tell you it won’t have some/most of the “luxury” features such as the Recent Rooms List capability or all the extra options to “zone” PMs, requests and invitations to give you a very rough idea. For a free program I will say that it will be nice though, that’s for sure.

MemberJust added voice ignore count support to the embedded chat activity logger since I thought it’d be useful. This means that you’ll be able to tell how many users are ignoring you and how many voice ignores other voice users have in real-time. While this isn’t a new feature (added it last year) it’s more convenient now since you don’t have to look down at the standard activity logger each time you want to check how many ignores a user has on voice. I know this has been done before and I remember it being used in the client “MyChat” years ago so I’m not claiming to be it’s pioneer.
If you’re being mass ignored you’ll know it, and depending on whether the mass ignore program is programmed to ignore you when you key up or ignore you just for joining voice you’ll be able to know well before you even key up on the mic (if it’s the latter). It might amuse some to see that they’re being mass ignored, maybe it’ll make them think twice before getting on the mic or even staying in the room. =

MemberWow, that’s good news. That will be an interesting feature indeed. 🙂

MemberWell all i can really say is if this is that similar in build and use to ytunnel it wont be hard for a programmer to make packets for a booter and boot it. so i guess in reality there relly is other peeps just as retarded as Chet Simpson. All though most dont relize it that Chet Simpson himself makes booters capable of booting his own product. The man is smart in that aspect…..Build a messy add on and sell it then make booter that will boot it and sell them. LOL LOL LOL Which this bout the only smart thing he has done lol lol
