MemberYou can ask them 🙂 or you can try to take yourself off their list.
Yahoo no longer offers the ability to take yourself of someone else’s list, but there are several programs available that do that.
Try this site to learn about many of the no-bud options: http://www.freecreed.com/unbud

MemberYahoo does not offer a return receipt option for private messages so there is no way of knowing that the message was received or that the message was read unless your friend tells you they received it.
BuddhaSmile
MemberCheck in preferences to see if there is a way to have your friend’s nicnames displayed instead of their names in your list. Maybe ‘t’ is an old friend with a ‘new’ look.

MemberI am laughing so hard about the need for software that displays a ‘suprise’ image instead of the cam and is hard to exit from! I like the way you think!
What a great idea >:)

MemberCarbonize and Freddy created a program that will let you read your saved messages and then store them in a more readily accessible format. I have not tried it as I don’t use messenger, but I know others who have and they have reported no problems with it.

MemberDo you mean blocked as in the other person has put you on ignore?
If so there is no concrete way to know other than that they will never answer you nor respond to anything you say in chat. But that is not foolprrof as there is no way to know if they are getting your messages or if they are replying and yahoo is not sending them to you.If you mean blocked as in your name is blocked so you cannot go into chat, then you can tell if you can use that name for mail and other yahoo features like My Yahoo, but you just cannot log into chat. Ten you know your name has been blocked/banned by Yahoo.

MemberI justhad an idea. Perhaps when cable was installed, it set the Sun virtual machine to be the default. Many of yahoo’s features do not work properly if the Sun virtual machine is used or if you need to update the one you have.
This site http://www.delta-knight.co.uk/ms_vm.shtml will tell you which version of virtual machine you have. It has instructions to set the Microsoft virtual machine as default and has links to the updated files if you need them. Please let me know if you try it and it helps.

MemberI had heard one of the reasons Yahoo was encouraging everyone to upgrade messenger is that there are some real security flaws with some of the older versions. It might be that because you are using an older version, there is something incompatible with the cam dlls.
Why don’t you get and use a chat client and see if your cam works? I know that cams are working fine with YahElite. If you use YahELite and find you need to reload the cam files, go to http://yahelite.org/client Get the file ycabby.exe Exit yahoo chat/messenger and run ycabby. It will probably stop and start a number of times depending on how busy yahoo is, but it will tell you when it is done. Let it run until it has finished. Then reboot, go into chat and try your cam.

MemberUsing Yahoo messenger does not give you viruses, trojans or other nasties. You get those things by clicking links in chat or in IMs. There are trojans/viruses like Aplore that seek to spread themselves via messenger. When an infected user PMs someone, a link is included in the first message. If you click the link you risk infection.
It is a good idea never to click links just because someone sends them to you or they are posted in chat! People infected with APLORE might not even know they are sending links, unlike some bots that purposely post links to sites where spyware and dialers are auto-installed.

MemberSometimes that message is given erroneously and what Yahoo really means is that your audio is already in use.
Click control/alt/delete ONE TIME and look to see what audio processes are running. Often the culprit is real player. Sometimes real player is in the start up menu so it is ‘on’ even though you never consciously started it or used it. If it is, take it out of the start up menu.

MemberPMs = Private Messages, that is what IMs were originally called

MemberThere are other ways to do caps in your name. If you have a US version of messenger, you can create a nicname with the mix of case you want. If you are using messenger to chat with you can tell it to display your nicname in chat.
If you create the nicname and it differs from your name only in the case of the letters, you can log into YahELite using any of the ymsg protocols and your nicname will be displayed. You can also set the case of your name as you log in using ycht protocol in YahELite. You can change the case as many times as you want.

MemberIf boots are a problem, set your PMs to friends only and turn off invites. If you still get booted consider getting and using a chat client.

MemberYahoo has always been plagued with glitches. Bugs get fixed, but in the process other bugs are created. Yahoo has always been a work in progress. Because of that it is also a study in patience and or frustration. When you look at the big picture of all the messenger features and that they are offered in a range of languages, it is remarkable that overall things work pretty well. Factor in all the script kiddies who are continually tring to take Yahoo down and you might begin to see the scope of what Yahoo has to deal with beyond just the challenge of keeping the english based software up and running.
If you get to the point of calling it Yahell, perhaps it is time to go for a walk, or out with friends in real life.
Open your ears/eyes when you are in the chat rooms, all the problems you describe are happening to many chatters.
The lag you describe seems to get worse during peak user times, which would make one think Yahoo’s servers are getting stressed. When you use ycht and chat2 protocols, it is an illusion that your text is being posted quicker. You see your posts more quickly, but other chatters see your posts at the same time reguardless of which protocol you are using.
To understand your text disappearing, look at your posting habits. Ycht and chat2 protocols are the least tolerant of chatters rapidly posting text. Also Yahoo does not seem to like fonts with complex blends and attributes like italicized, text bans seem to occure more quickly to chatters who use blends. Think about how bots post. Many bots in the past put out short bursts of text and often used many colors to get people’s attention. Maybe Yahoo is trying to block the bots…
