Memberlalaz, have you put those names on ignore? Kron is correct, there is no way to stop all of the booters, but there are things you can do to help reduce the likelihood of being booted. Put the people who have booted you on ignore, disable PMs and turn off invites.
Yahoo does not offer telephone support for its free services, so if you are thinking of calling, I can tell you from experience you will probably be on hold a long time only to be told to check the help pages. They get 1.5 million pieces of e-mail a month, so one can understand their reasons for using an autoresponse.

MemberSometimes Yahoo’s error messages are clear. At times their servers go down or for some other reason you cannot access a feature. When that happens all you can do is wait it out if you are using messenger. (Chat client users can sometimes get around those problems by changing servers or using a different protocol, but those options are not available to messenger users.)
As a rule of thumb, if nothing has been changed, ie no software updates, no installs or uninstalls, and if the feature did work earlier, I always suggest that chatters wait a day or two (longer if it occured late in the week, or on the weekend) and let Yahoo have time to sort out the issues.

MemberYahELite is highly customizable, which can be confusing when you are first starting out. Nearly all the buttons and options have tooltips which you can see if you put your mouse over them. If you want more information than you see in the tooltip, right click it and more information will be shown. You can set your colors using the buttons in the toolbar, or to customize all the text, explore the options that you can find by clicking Format in YahELite’s menu and then clicking Appearance. This page might help you: http://www.customcodes.com/tutorial/appearance.shtml

MemberYahoo will ask everyone you added to your list if they want to be on your list. Even though they were on your list before, Yahoo will not put them back on until the chatter says it is OK. Until then, Yahoo will not display their on-line status.

Memberdilligaf_guy, are you using a cam and seeing the nic anonymous asking to view?

Member.scr files are screen saver files, they can do everything a .exe file can do (meaning they can execute programs) and they can do those things when you are not around….
Beware! Be Safe! Do not accept files from strangers. If you do, scan them before you open them and NEVER accept an executable (.exe or .scr files)

MemberYahoo masks your IP when you are chatting in the main rooms. At best others will get yahoo’s IP address. BUT if you connect to someone with a peer to peer connection they get your IP address. Peer to peer connections occur when file sharing (not through Yahoo’s file share), PMs and using/viewing Cams. However if you are using a firewall you will not have to worry. Accepting files from strangers pose a far greater risk IMHO.
Just because someone has your IP address does not mean they can do anything with it.
I agree with the suggestions of just putting the lamers who threaten you on ignore. Also set your PMs and invites to friends only.

MemberCable users’ IP addresses are assigned by the cable company. To get a new one call your cable company’s customer service number and ask them to assign a different one.

MemberRight before you started experiencing the text disappearing, did you do anything… like installing SP2 for XP?

MemberThere are many options for messengers that allow you to PM Yahoo users without using Yahoo’s software. Trillian will do it, or if you are looking for something small and barebones, try TIM (Tiny Instant Messenger) available here http://www.customcodes.com/deep/yahelite/client.shtml

MemberWhen you create a room in Yahoo, it sometimes will take an hour to be listed in the room list. When the last person leaves the room, the room will no longer exist. That is why when you come back into chat you cannot find it in the room lists.

MemberAutoresponders to PMs are one of many features that the chat clients offer. Some, like YahELite’s allow for a ‘Magic Word” to be used to allow a PM to go through if the first PM contains the “Magic Word” . Without the Magic Word the PM is rejected with a reply of your choice. Or you can just send an autoresponse.

MemberPeriodically Yahoo’s room list servers go down. Freddy has a program on his HelpBytes site called yahRools which will get all the roomnames. Another option is
http://www.redneckrepairs.org/webroom
(which will redirect you to http://www.redneckrepairs.org/users/deepthawt/webroom.php )Both will give you all of Yahoo’s rooms worldwide.

MemberYahoo seems to be giving a text ban to chatters who send many posts into the room in a short amount of time. This will often create a text ban which will last several minutes.
If you are experiencing text bans, posting longer posts less frequently might help.
Chat client users can post in ‘thought mode’ until the text ban is lifted and then go back to the regular style.
