CarriemeawayplzMemberI have Yahoo Messenger build 8.1.0.195, zone alarm internet security suite 6.5.737, IE 7.0 and I am wired to a linksys Wireless G Broadband router. I am constantly getting disconnected from yahoo messenger. I have searched the net for answers on this subject and found one post saying maybe its part of a booter program but all I know is no matter what id, what computer and what firewall I am constantly logged off and logged back in instantly. It is so annoying I’ve just shut it down completely.
I am considering going back to an older build but I am worried about security verses stability.
Anyone have any clue how to solve this issue?
CarriemeawayplzMemberThank you for your input . I appreciate the help .
CarriemeawayplzMemberHated- Thank you for your response and for understanding exactly what I was saying.
Dv-I never mentioned moving from one computer to the next, I did, however, explain quite clearly what I was trying to accomplish which is confirmed by hated’s post. Strange you should mention stalker dodging, I am quite certain I never said anything referring to a stalker or dodging them. You must of misread that part too.
CarriemeawayplzMemberAs I said before the reason i want to save it is because I have one id I move around alot to different messengers, therefore when I put that alias on the new messenger then I have to recreate the ignore list….But I thank you for telling me they are saved on the server.
Would anyone else know how I could go about saving it ?
I would greatly appreciate it
Thank you
Carrie
CarriemeawayplzMemberIt was happening with Explorer 6.0 and firefox. And yes Amy it was also occuring on my laptop as well as my desktop. Actually, I ended up calling yahoo, because I have them as my isp, they walked me through several steps, including cleaning out my cookies and cache for the umpteenth time. It still referred me to my main yahoo page, they even had me go so far as to reinstall their yahoo software, When I asked why? they said well when you sign on its expecting to see your registration and it is associating it with that.. It made no sense to me because some ids were the free ids and it shouldn’t have been doing it with those, So finally right before he ends the call, he says, do you have a firewall? Yes, zone alarm security suite 6.0.. Please remove that.. Usually zone alarm doesn’t interrupt the service of anything so I had my doubts, I shut it down and low n behold, it was zone alarm.
Thank you for your help. I am used to them telling me Norton is causing the problem but lately its been zone alarm. Which is a shame because I have been spoiled by not having to deal with too many problems with it
CarriemeawayplzMembermaybe I should explain further.. when i add someone say main id is stuck in 1st gear
Alias is Carriemeawayplz……. I want to add as carriemeawayplz.. So when I open up a message change id to carriemeawayplz.. send the invite or add , it sends back saying .. so and so has added Stuck in first gear ( carriemeawayplz) to their messenger..
I simply want it to say So and so added carriemeawaplz to their messenger.. ( not anything else ) I’m worried they are finding out the main id …
Is this possible?
CarriemeawayplzMemberI’m not an expert, but I have a few suggestions..
First, go into start, run , msconfig, see if anything new is placed in the startup tab that might be causing the problem. If you find a program has been downloaded or something suspicious in your startup tab, first google the program and make sure it is not something you truly need and that it is something to be concerned about, try to delete it ( add / remove programs) , if it will not delete or you are having problems deleting it go into safe mode and delete it from there .
It could be another problem, something that you recently downloaded that is causing the conflict or you may have a virus. Another suggestion is this, download and scan with spybot search and destroy , lavasofts adware, webroot spy sweeper. If after using these, if they find the problem follow their instructions, if they find nothing but you continue having problems, I would try to roll the computer back to a time when you knew there wasn’t a problem, precisely 2 weeks ago.
Your last resort is to do a total format.
I would also like to suggest ( you probably already know this but it bares repeating ) please remember when you download something before you put it on any removable drive, before you open it. Always save it to your desktop and scan it with an antivirus software or spyware. It will save you worlds of anguish in the end.
CarriemeawayplzMemberVictory,
First of all Yahoo will not allow you to change your secret question or answer unless you know the original secret question and answer. In order to change your secret question, you’d have to answer numerous questions and give the correct answers for the original account.
Such as first you’d have to go the site below
Then you’d have to answer the following questions :
Your Yahoo! ID.
The zip code you gave when you registered for the email account (non-U.S. residents should include country).
The birth date that you provided at registration.
The alternate (non-Yahoo!) email address listed for your Yahoo! ID.
Your current password question and secret answer (exactly as you entered them at registration).
Your new password question and secret answer.
Please note: The punctuation, spelling, and spacing of your new secret answer are important. We will copy the secret answer exactly as it appears in your email.
Basically what I am saying is in order for your friends id to have been stolen and their secret question changed, Your friends password would have had to be extremely easy and he or she would have had to give out the original secret question and answer ( something I am almost positive no one in their right mind would do )
Answering the questions above with the original secret question and answer would get your friends account back but without that information you are out of luck.
CarriemeawayplzMemberWell ‘known’ only in the sense they were met through YIM. My friend got a new isp and kept the old one on two completely different computers. They would surf on the new one and chat and play on the old one. On the new one Yahoo Messenger was not installed at all. On the old one it didn’t seem he knew any places the new isp was surfing. A few days ago my friends daughter wanted to chat with her friend on YIM. They made a new id ( remember this is on the computer that was without YIM) they downloaded YIM and once again he was back to harassing them on the New ISP.
I have to wonder since yahoo and all chat related programs use a certain port to chat on is it possible he is getting to them through this port?
If so, is it possible to switch to a different port? My friend says they are positive he didn’t know anything from the new computer because no ids were used to harass them were made of places they had surfed or things they had done on the new computer , Until they downloaded and started using YIM and Windows Live Messenger.
I feel sorry for this person because the child involved is in an advanced class where they do things over the summer, the school involved sets up email addresses and chat names so that they may keep in touch with others involved in the program when the program ends for that summer. The child is not able to participate in any of this because of the stalker/ harrasser.
Is there any other solution? There has to be some way to get rid of him for good. These people are not rich and cannot afford to replace all hardrives.
Its horrible how people abuse computers and others this way. All matters of privacy are gone. And the one being abused is the one who has to start over and get rid of everything. I wish, Microsoft would make something in all of their windows programs that would log/ or catch the person doing this and block them somehow. Until then my friend is left in limbo, wondering what to do next.
CarriemeawayplzMemberWell lets see, what I mean by reboot is I shut the computer down and restarted it . I don’t know if that is the tech term for it but that is how I have always thought of it. As far as the desktop disappeared, I’ll try to be more clear. I shut down the computer , turned it back on and I see the users, I click on the user and the desktop never loads , no there isn’t any big letters no orange letters, it did not say active desktop because I would have pressed that button and all would have came back . I mean the desktop isn’t there, it doesn’t load nothing.
So I pressed f8 , went into safe mode, thinking that something else might have been causing the error but nope again the same thing . When I shut the computer down after I log onto the user it stops dead in its tracks and nothing happens.
I cannot right click on the desktop because it isn’t there. NOthing is there, no icons no pictures no error NOTHING. Strangest thing.
No, I did not reinstall windows. I wanted to make sure there was nothing else I can/ could do before I lost everything and reformatted.
Is there a way when your computer misbehaves like this to make a boot cd? Can that be done? Again, the new computer came with no floopy drive ( yes, I know I can buy an external one but as of yet I haven’t ) so how can I create a boot disc if that is what it is called from the cd drive or on a cd? I hope I am explaining this the right way.
Thanks for trying to help.
CarriemeawayplzMemberHasan wrote:http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/FileSharing/Windows/facstaffxp.htmlBy default, IPC$ is a “hidden” share (aka. administrative share) that is automatically set up on Windows XP Professional computers once file sharing is enabled. Make certain that the Administrator’s account on your computer is password-protected to ensure that this share is also password-protected.
Thanks for the info Hasan.. Its strange actually because we don’t have xp pro we only have home edition.
CarriemeawayplzMemberActually Cuddles, if I’m not mistaken you go to preferences, click archives you can change the option to save all my messages on this computer. instead of clear them each time I close out .
CarriemeawayplzMemberNetti wrote:I am actually surprised that someone has not tried to update this program. I mean your friends list is actually kept online and not on your computer, so you’d think that someone could find a way to do this. However I suppose then you’d have to have everyone’s user name and password to view their friends list. Might be something that is just out of the picture for right now.It would actually be nice if they could do something like MSN messenger does.. it gives you a list of who has added you and who hasn’t . I’m surprised yahoo hasn’t come up with something like this. I’ve emailed them and complained constantly even ” suggested ” it many times. But still they haven’t thought it necessary , I guess. It would stop a lot of stalker problems and such . Knowing how every one values their privacy you’d think they would consider it.
