Memberthats why I have backup proxy on hand at all times
so I can download this thing without him knowing my real IP address
but i’m not saying i’m opening.. i’m just comparing sizes and such
EDIT: whatever it is.. it is not a MSN Client as it has a Visual Basic Icon at a 24.0 KB
the MSN Messenger file.. also known as msnmsgr.exe is by far bigger at 4.65 MB
if I were the admins or mods I would delete this topic, as it is quite clear that this is a virus…
i am sending in this file to norton antivirus, to get it checked out..

Memberheres what happened
On thursday MSN Messenger 6.2 was supposed to be released to the public.. the main site: http://messenger.msn.com was not updated and the internal site: http://messenger.msn-int.com was updated with MSN Messenger 6.2..
after a few hours or so the internal site taken the 6.2 download offline and they put 6.1 on the site…
Microsoft said they discovered some critical bug and said they would re-release MSN Messenger 6.2 on Monday..
although the MSN site does not have this file.. the file is out there.. if you wish to have 6.2 here is my link

MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by ZeekThey took off ‘make a phone call’ that I used quite often so I had to go back to 6.1! Are there any other features they removed in this new version?
hmm… it appears to be there.. for me at least.. i’m using 6.2.. not that I use the phone call feature..
Dale
Memberi dont think they are adding in new features.. but 2 times I had two mobile groups.. I just signed out and it was fixed.. thats the only bug I came across… I dont even know how I came across it!
Dale
Memberi agree.. you take what is free, dont like it dont use it..
although it was a sort of disapointing upgrade microsoft wants to make money over it, with their pay for games and such. I will not argue such as the terrabytes it must take to run the MSN Server’s
as for the new API.. maybe patchou could find good use of it in Messenger Plus! 3.1 (as 3.0 is near finished) the new API might help fix a couple of bugs patchou described as “limited”..
not for the gold icons.. I am not a fan of the gold icons.. I personally think they are annoying.. but I like the idea on how I can group them..
and for the autocomplete.. i’m sure patchou will find a way of letting you turn it off.. but it doesn’t really bug me.. in fact I think it goes good with the Quick Icons Panel.. because as you click the icon. you get the emotion in your messenger window..
7.0 should be coming out in 2-3 months or maybe less and the features in it should be phonominal.. Microsoft must keep up a reputation to stay on top of the Instant Messenger race, ICQ 4.0 recently came out. and that is good enough reason to start getting a little more serious..
the next year or so in instant messeging could get interesting.. lets just hope it doesn’t end like Internet Explorer did.. but there is always a chance…

EDIT: heres my mirror.. as messenger has taken it down
Dale
Memberi guess this is what I truly got to say about it. now my addons are working,
i dont think too badly or greatly of this messenger.. from what I read on mess.be there are more API’s.. that could be great for patchou! maybe in messenger plus! 3.1 he could put them to good use..
but at the same time, microsoft just wants to make money on their messenger service.. (who can blame them?)
the gold icons, I personally think they are annoying, but I like the fact that I can group them into the same group :)..
and the launch site.. http://www.games.mess.be gives me the launch site I love to enjoy.
i guess its just an update to hold us over till 7.0.. and I can imagine what 7.0 will hold..
Dale
Membercameno eh?
you deleted windows messenger did you?.. you need windows messenger to run with cameno. or you’ll get that eror you specified above..
although they have nothing to do with each other.. they need each other.. dont ask, I dont get it either..
Dale
Memberkoen always updates fast..
as for the messenger.. I guess the only words I could say are..
“is this a joke?”
and messenger plus is now compatible…
Dale
Membergive em time..
its the 22nd.. yes.. but not all places are in work hours on the 22nd.. for example. I am typing that at 7:30 in the morning.. then theres the west coast. 6:30 AM..
i’m just saying. just because its past the 21st doesn’t mean its out.. they’ll probably release it when all countrys pass 9:00 AM. I cant guarantee.. but I am pretty sure.. because microsofts work hours would be on.. or bla bla bla..
it takes time to update all the sites (for all the languages and stuff).. and then they get hit with a big croud of people trying to download it..
microsoft will probably update it at a time in their own time zone when people are at work and probably dont have access to MSN messenger..

Memberwell.. I tried Windows XP Service Pack 2 RC1.. I did have one problem. but its not to big of an issue.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 does not recognise Norton Antivirus 2004 at the moment but that will be probably subject to change in the near future..
Speed.. no issue with my start time. its exactly the same as it originally has.
Compatibility.. the only non-compatible program with Windows XP Service Pack 2 that I ran into was K-lite 2.6, I am sure there is more. but for now compatibility is fine..
Firewall: well.. thanks for the heads up david.. i’ll truly have to see if it stops oncomming connections..
Quote:quote:For me, XPSP2 has already failed it adds nothing but security updates to the OS (Okay…I’ll use WindowsUpdate, thnx!). The firewall is basically useless, and it will kick you out of games when they attempt to connect to the internet. *The* most annoying thing that has been added is the alert that you need to restart for the updates to take effect. It gives you a dialog box every 10 mins or so that says ‘You need to restart…blah blah.’ -Restart Now- -Restart Later-, Restart Now is selected by default, so if you are typing an IM and press the space bar, you’ll reboot and loose anything you were working on.For me SP2 works as smoothly as Service Pack one.. I havn’t bothered to try games on it as it isn’t a game machine.. i’ll truly see if it isn’t compatible with games when I get my new graphics card.
i guess.. my moral of the story is..
dont expect too much out of microsoft betas..
if you expect lots, you will be disapointed…
Quote:quote:*sigh*, this is what we have grown to expect from Microsoft.hehe quotes like that make me glad I have a dual boot linux 😛
