MemberI don’t want to be thought of as arguing with the moderator, but this is not the first post on this forum where nhyrvana has blatently disrespected a post of someone else.
Johnson obviously started off with good intentions of showing a trick, and totally unprovoked, nhyrvana decides its bad. This is disrespect to both Johnson, and that website. Why on earth did she take the time to do a lookup, why not just visit the page, which is quite clearly a plain HTML page with text based tips, no downloads, no spyware.
On another thread, the Y!Tunnel one, she blatently has disrespect for J_Hop who started off with a satement about Y!Tunnel being illegal, no abuse or anything in it, Nhyrvana replied instantly with a test of his knowledge, and how college graduates are more stupid than those with hands on experience, which is also disrespectful to people like myself and others studying.
This thread is about yahoo! and not the ins and outs of domain name management, and Nhyrvana might consider the fact she is currently registering domains in names other than hers, she is also not a lawyer.
Remember some of us have respect for other people, we don’t judge on their name, age, sex, race, education etc… We also like to give everyone a chance, we look at what they have to say offer, then evaluate it.
Please don’t think that me posting this is showing a disrespect to these boards, website, or indeed yourself the moderator. I think there is a huge amount of great stuff going on at this website and forums, but I have known this nhyrvana person (female by the way) a long time from a Yahoo! Chat room, and I know they are intent on causing trouble for those who have their own unique opinions and ways.I just thought it was worth mentioning, before people get into trouble.

MemberThe chances are very very low.
Unless you know someone who deliberately has something against you, then no one is really interested in you.
Lets look at how they could get you:
You would have to let them view, if you don’t, they can’t view you, and so they can’t save it. IPs are sent now with all cam requests. So it might be possible they’d get your IP, which is not a big thing, especially on dial up where you can reconnect and be assigned a new one. It also means when they make a request, you get their IP.
As for seeing the text, not really a chance at all they can do this, unless the person you was talking to send’s them a transcript.
I wrote this page explaining the IP issue, mainly to put people’s mind at rest, many are misunderstood about what IP is http://www.freddys-utilities.co.uk/ipaddress.php and what can be done with it (not much).
If you are worried, look at the bottom of that page for some recommended security tools such as firewall and GRC’s port probing services.
As for the programs, see andy’s cam grab (free, trials and pay versions available), http://andy.w2s.co.uk

MemberThere is also a nice program here that does that and more Yahoo! stuff:
http://www.carbonize.co.uk/Yahoo/messystuff.zip
You can edit/add and delete custom status messages! Very small download, saves editing the registry each time.

MemberIt’s neither, it’s Yahoo!’s servers.
It is annoying, but I get it too, no posts at all arrive, then 10 will all come at once which makes it hard to follow the conversation.

MemberTried super webcam? Only other broadband users will be able to view you though.
All cam settings are on preferences, play with them.
Login>>preferences.

MemberWise is an Installation System produced by Wise Solutions that just happens to be used by Yahoo!, most probably in conjunction with the Windows based Installer you most probably have installed.
unwise.exe is the Uninstaller program.
Other systems like Install Shield are less creative with their uninstaller names (uninstall.exe).
I like Jeff’s theory on the naming;)

Member.NET is Micrsoft’s evil attempt at taking over the computer market, yet again!
I have been to a seminar on .NET given by Microsoft, and it’s nothing really special, in fact the demo given was slow on networked computers at the place of the seminar, the whole point is about the networked and distributed objects. I am also aware a previous demonstration crashed!
Visual Basic is often look upon as being bad by programmers and software enginners because it uses sloppy techniques and no structure. You are encouraged to do such things as gotos and breaking out of structures, known as spaghetti code, because it’s hard to read and maintain. It’s also an interpreted language and requires a virtual machine (in the form of MSVBVM60.dll) which makes it slower and somewhat less flexible.
It just happens today it’s often the first language taught to many in sixth form/year 12+13 schools, although I learned pascal thank god, you learn more about programming and structure from it than VB, although VB is object orientated and pascal isn’t.
Also VB is all over illegal file sharing platforms like kazaa and easy to obtain.
j_hop you need to stop the personal threats/attacks on this forum, like you didn’t like being doing to yourself. Also read the post before you reply, and perhaps reply all in one post and not several, you can always go back and edit if you forget something.

Memberc:program filesyahoo!messengerstoredIM – delete those files, they are your offline messages, they wont be recoverable.
Log back into messenger. Should be ok.
You might consider disabling PMs to non friends to avoid this happening in the future. Login>>preferences>>privacy and check ignore messages from non friends. This is badly worded considering they now have a chat client built in, it’s just the PMs that are ignored.

MemberAs Y!Tunnel acts as a proxy, it needs two ports to be a server on. I presume this is one for YMSG stuff, and the other for the HTTP stuff. I am not 100% sure though.
Two kids….?
freddy
MemberSoon I will be biased perhaps, I am writing my own client :-P.
The first 5 clients are the most user friendly on that list. Cheeta is shareware now. YChat is a bit old. Y!Mlite I tried to help, but the author threw it back at me. YaZak has a bit of a bad User Interface. Conclusion, try YahELite!!
At just 400 or so KB, it takes no time to download, and if you don’t like it, no time to delete. I use YahELite, have done for a long time. Af first it looks a little confusing, but its quite easy to learn and can do a lot.
Voice chat? This is a problem. You can use external program yvoice, http://conurelover.kjsservices.com/yvoice/yahelite . Just you have to find a few things each time you change room to get it to connect.
If only I knew how yahelite interfaced its vox program, I would write a replacement yahvox.

MemberDue to the way Y!Tunnel works, just filtering certain codes, it can never be full boot resistant, it’s the bad programming of Yahoo! and their choice of interfaces that make is so susceptible.
Because chat clients are programmed to a higher quality, they are often not affected by 99% of the codes, but are susceptible to a few errors. This is a huge threat reduction.
If you are interested in a client, which are mostly now cam and voice compattible, see a review of 9 Windows clients here:

MemberOh yeah, I missed this from my last post!
Why are we confusing terrorists with hackers?
Hacker(properly cracker): One who gains unauthorised access to a PC, with or without intent to later re-gain access by leaving a backdoor open. They don’t necessarily gain knowledge, steal files, or leave any traces.
Terrorist: Someone who terrorises, like the Government.
freddy
Memberwe’re going somewhere again!
Well hackers who hack home PCs for fun are not hackers, but attention seeking loners.
If a port is open, it’s no use without a program listening for data lol I often sit with a few ports open because I develop a SMTP server and leave it turned on to test how it goes, I also write a website and run apache to run tests and let other people preview. I’ve never had any problems.
