MemberYou don’t mention if you did use 6 or not, but here is some info.
Version 6 changed the filenames assigned to about 25% of the smileys, so if you did install, then just went backwards and didn’t uninstall, you may have some smileys in wrong place for 5.5.
Version 6 also lost some codes, for example, in 5.5, you can post 0 in many smileys as well as o, in 6 its only o. They also removed the – from many smileys, like :* for kiss could have been :-* in 5.5

MemberI just love Lycos Chat:
http://www.helpbytes.co.uk/lycos.php
Users will have to make new nicknames for Lycos (good luck) and will now know how to contact old friends.
This explains the loss of the chat button in messenger for UK users.
Towards the end of this year (2004) Lycos will lose their own Messenger software in favour of exclusively using Yahoo!s Messenger software.

MemberNo, it’s not possible.

MemberCrazy bug in 6.0.0.1643
The transition screen with the ad should appear before chat loads, as in 5.6. It did in the beta, in 6 it doesn’t, instead nothing happens, so you have to wait a few seconds then try again, this time chat appears straight away!

MemberGet it direct here: http://download.yahoo.com/dl/installs/ymsgr/ymsgr_1358.exe
Do ensure you backup any emotes/smileys/archives you may have changed and uninstall 6.0 first.

MemberI am seeing Canada and thinking shaw cable?
tools, internet options, connections, “lan settings…”. Untick the bot to automatically detect settings. OK that, then try a profile. Should work.
If you want to know more, read here: http://www.helpbytes.co.uk/profiles.php#unf

MemberWhy pay whatever the current fee is for Y!Tunnel, when using a chat client is free, and I still say people should read my posts about why Messenger is more bootable than Chat Clients.
And a “boot” that just disconnects you at server will take any program offline, you may not see it, because your program may implement automatic reconnect behind the scenes….

MemberIt just happens to you, the user doesn’t see it twice.

MemberThe internal Norton Ad Blocker blocks strings like ad _ad ad_ ad. etc… now some of Yahoo!s script have expressions like something._addition and norton just sees the _ad. So it strips it out of the script, making the script nonsense.
I can’t say why Norton is crashing, and I have not used MyIE2 myself, maybe try disabling Norton before you open Messenger?
freddy
MemberDo you use Norton at all, there are issues with its ad blocking, it edits or removes the script to remove what it thinks its an ad, its just poor text matching.

MemberArguments / Debates and Conversations are different 😉
BTW, Was there some reason for Canada, i.e. was there some news on this, or did you just come up with Canada because you live there/know somebody there?

MemberI never even saw the “petaphiles” lol, but as my post went, I was more or less saying that.
I wasn’t saying you was anti-chat Jeff, nor disrespecting your opinion.
You get so many people that say chat is just full of paedophiles (spelt right, UK spelling anyway 😉 ) and idiots, and this was not from you, but implied by NeverHappens.
There are many idiots, there are paedophiles. There are idiots in society as a whole, and the same goes for paedophiles, both existed before chat, and will exist even if chat is closed. A parent wouldn’t send a young child alone to a park(??), but they would be happy to let them lose on the internet alone? I am not saying it’s the parent’s fault, obviously not, but like everything, supervision is required!
Things like Yahoo! Chat, well, you get times it works, others not. I’m not saying a room should strictly stick to topic 24/7, but you do get those that just want to destroy a conversation or use a chat room for other purposes. This happens in life too, people try change a conversation, chat has the benefit of a real ignore, they just vanish. There are more idiots daily yes.
Chat specific to a site or subject is probably better, one with fewer rooms and users, its easy in a service like yahoo! for someone who would usually be in a teen room to decide to go cause a fight in the religion room. This is less likely if you’re chatting on a chat applet on a religious website.
It’s the few that can make something with big potential seem bad, like just 1 person can make a service of 100000 users look bad.

MemberIf there was many links that came up, it’s likely he is infected (if they had his ID near them, or you otherwise) with a trojan.
see http://www.helpbytes.co.uk/removal.php for the removal instructions.

MemberCompanies pay Yahoo! for the IMVironments because its valuable advertising space. It really is upto Yahoo! who puts the IMVironments there, and if you can break the code, you’re not going to get your custom IMVironment to many users as it not as though its going to appear on the download IMVironment list.
