Memberhellsfury_25m, here’s what I always do when I have to make up a color scheme for a site:
open an image editing program that will allow working in layers (that would be almost all image editing programs, such as Adobe PhotoShop, Corel PhotoPaint, or Jasc PaintShop Pro), or a vector image program (like Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Macromedia Fireworks which I prefer as you can use it to design the entire site quite easily).
Then just start with a couple rectangles that are both seperate and overlap eachother. Then start with a background color which you apply to the canvas. Next is to pick the base color which you make sure stands out against the background color. Then just add colors as you go. Try to keep the number of colors low (around four is always safe) in the beginning. You will add more as you start adding text to the site and find you need to let things stand out more than the rest.FrutZle
Memberor you could get a headphone with a microphone attached to it. They might not always look nice, but at least that way you can be sure the sound is always good, and you won’t have to use a headphone as your mic 😉

MemberAlso check the Tools > Options menu’s Privacy tab to make sure you’ve checked the checkbox for “This is a shared computer so don’t store my address book on it”. Since you’re using MSN Messenger 5 the wording and location of that checkbox might be slightly different than what I just wrote, but with a little searching in the options you should be able to find it.

You’ll be notified of the program going online by your firewall if even the slightest thing has changed, for example a firewall update. But in essence you’re right, there are programs like that. But, and I’m only speaking for myself here, I would never let anyone install anything on my computer without me checking what it is and if I really want it installed.

MemberI haven’t been able to find a list of MSN Messenger compatible webcams, but here’s the list for Yahoo! Messenger: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mesg/webcams/webcams-10.html
There’s also a link for Yahoo’s webcam compatibility test at the bottom of that page, so if your cam isn’t in the list (Mustek isn’t), you might want to give that a try.FrutZle
MemberGo to Tools > Options and there go to the General tab. There are checkboxes there for “Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows”, which I presume you want to uncheck, and “Allow automatic sign in when connected to the Internet”, which you might want to uncheck too.

MemberSo if you make one and want to share it with people, you just send them the .EXE file and they put it where?

MemberI believe that when someone gets the invitation to watch your cam through the IM Companion app. they are requested to download a program, but not the IM Companion itself.
Do you have any firewall software installed, or are you perhaps using a router?

MemberI just checked my Messenger 6.0 and it has Audio/Video Tuning Wizard in the Tools menu. On the first “page” of that wizard it allows you to choose which camera to use.
I remember that at work it didn’t say Audio/Video Tuning Wizard but Audio Tuning Wizard but I think that was when I didn’t have my webcam hooked up.Are you sure the webcam is hooked up and installed properly? Can you get it working in other programs, such as Yahoo! Messenger?

MemberWhy not just ask the school’s network admin if (s)he’ll install it for you?

MemberWhat’s different in the pop-up? I haven’t noticed any change since I installed the beta…
One thing I don’t like about the custom colors: they turn out way lighter than what you choose. Getting a dark chat window by setting a dark color is impossible…

MemberHere’s a basic explanation:
when you have a webcam or voice chat with someone, there’s a direct connection between your computer and that of the other chatter. Without either your computer or that of the other being infected with some kind of spying software, it won’t be possible to get the conversation. Of course if you both have a good firewall installed, you’d know about it if something like that was installed and active because there’d be unexpected outgoing traffic that your firewall would’ve notified you about.A personal note: you’d either have to have some big enemies (or weird friends for that matter), or a lot of bad luck, or be discussing something top secret if you worry about someone trying to catch your chats.
