MemberThanks for posting back with that zq78. I’m sure that information will be the answer to other people’s problems as well 🙂

MemberI’m sorry, but I can’t think of any way to get rid of the pop-ups without just doing what MS wants you to do; upgrade. Unless you want to try Trillian or a different third-party instant messenger that can connect to MSN Messenger…

Memberif you don’t trust him/her, the first thing to do is make sure your computer is free of any software that shouldn’t be there (keyloggers, trojans, etc.). If you’ve found anything like that and have enough reason to suspect that person of putting it on your computer, then I suggest you really rethink whether or not you should keep that person as a “buddy”.
I take it that with “getting even” you mean doing the same to him/her. In that case, let me just warn you that it’s illegal to violate anyone’s privacy, which you would be doing.

I think we have “Manah manah”, as I believe it’s called, on a Muppets Show LP (that’s one of those large black discs that won’t fit in a CD-player, for the younguns among us ;))

MemberReload the page, and every time the smilie gets a different expression. That seems to be all that happens.

MemberAny reason why you don’t just download the new version? If you do that, the popup will be gone until a new version gets released.

MemberMake sure you don’t have any other software running that might be using the camera. Check the running processes (in Windows XP you can check by going to Start > Run and enter taskmgr then hit enter) for hidden programs that might be using the camera.

MemberSusan, aside from the information posted by Sashaa and Tigerblade, you should also know that with every post you make on a forum, your IP address gets logged by the forum software. This information is generally only available to the admins and moderators. So, if he has either of those functions on the forums that both you and him posted in, that’s probably where he got your IP address.
If he doesn’t have either of those functions, he might’ve gotten it from an admin or moderator who he’s friends with, in which case I’d seriously doubt the integrity of the people in charge of those forums.Regardless of where/how he got your IP address, as long as you have a good firewall installed, he can’t do much of anything to your computer unless he’s a very good hacker. Personally I wouldn’t worry about it.

MemberIf the SWF file is not free for use and/or password protected, you shouldn’t even try to get it in any editable format.
That said, if the file isn’t password protected, you can import it into a blank Flash file and do with it whatever you want. That’s how I sometimes get logos from companies that I work for when I make a mock-up design.Another way, if you don’t need to have the text fully editable, is by downloading the SWF file and then letting it run in the SWF player that you get with Flash. Just set it to full screen, take a screen shot and edit that in a photo editing program. Yet another way I sometimes get logos or images 😉

MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by JeffHey Grim, thanks for the suggestion. It’s an interesting idea. I may play around with it and see how it looks.
I’m always a little reluctant to add more graphics to the forums, because every image, no matter how small, will slow down the page. I’ll check it out though.
You know that if you want to add icons for “x posts in forum so-and-so, x posts in forum so-and-so”, for every view of a topic, all topics made by the members that’ve posted in that topic have to be checked for the right forum_id, then counted and converted to the right amount of icons that go with that forum, right?
I mean, it would add to the loading time, especially if you get to topics where a lot of different members have posted. The icons themselves wouldn’t be much of a problem as they would get cached by the browser and therefore only loaded once every x days, but it would add quite some extra work for the database.
An easier solution would be to add radiobuttons to the messenger fields in the profiles, where people can choose a favorite messenger. Then by quering only one extra database field, you could show an icon for the author’s favorite messenger by their name.

MemberCan’t be sure of course, but I do agree that webcam sales have probably gone up during the last holiday season. It’s also thanks to the larger number of people moving from dialup to broadband, making it easier to use a webcam.
Personally I never use mine anymore, they’re gathering dust as I type this, but I did buy… I mean… Santa bought my little brother a webcam.

MemberYou can do it, but if you’re using MSN Messenger, you will have to use a different chat for each webcam “chat” between two people and then one multi-person chat where you use nothing but text chat.
As Sathallrin said, the data transfer will go up quite a bit with more webcams, so if you’re not all on broadband with enough bandwidth, it might not work for all of you.FrutZle
MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by AnnaEver try running down old people with buses? Or picking up hookers? 😉
I prefer getting in my golf cart and driving over innocent golfers at the country club myself. The only question now is if that’s something I like to do in GTA or in real life [:P]

MemberUsually more than 12, ’cause I’m online at work all the time and have my computer on at home almost all the time that I’m home, and I “jump in front of it” whenever I feel I have to look something up. It’s great while watching a game show like “who wants to be a millionaire” and you don’t know the answer 😀
