MemberHave you tried changing the “Web Camera Settings” in the Tools menu?
FrutZle
MemberI don’t know if these problems still exist, but …
For the webcam problem, make sure you don’t have the webcam running on any other programs. Only one program can use the webcam, so if it’s already being used and you try to use it in another program it won’t run there.
If that’s not the problem, you should make sure you don’t have a firewall running (perhaps in your modem, or it could be a router) that blocks the video feed (same goes for the sound problem). You might have to add some information to the firewall (or router) so it’ll allow the feeds.FrutZle
MemberI’ve had my cam (Logitech QC3000 Pro) for quite a while now, but haven’t really used it until a few days ago when I set it up so it “streams” onto my site. I’m now planning on getting a second cam so I can have one on my site when I chat on MSN with one of my friends that also has a webcam (otherwise both will show on my site… or at least that’s the plan).

MemberI have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000 and it’s quite good. Honestly calls for me to say that I haven’t tried any others, but since it’s been a breeze to set it up and it’s compatible with all programs I’ve tried it on, I’ll defenately go for another Logitech for my second cam, probably the QC 4000 Pro.

Which one? CUseeme or Yahoo?
I never downloaded CUseeme, and Yahoo IM is the only messenger that I found to have a working webcam feature (MSN doesn’t have it unless you have Windows XP [v] and Trillian can’t handle it when your “chat partner” doesn’t use an old version of Yahoo IM [v]) 😉FrutZle
MemberI think I prefer Yahoo’s webcam features where the connection is directly from computer to computer. The funny thing is that I couldn’t find anything on Yahoo’s policy pages about whether or not they can, will and/or do record and/or save your conversations for whatever reason.
I hardly ever use my webcam, and don’t do anything they’re not allowed to see (although I don’t know why they’d want to see my ugly face [:P]), but I know there are lots of people who use their webcams in a more “intimate” way and I don’t think they’ll really like it when their webcam chats are being recorded/reproduced. The problem with policies and Terms Of Service agreements is that they’re usually too long and complexly written for people to actually read them, so they’ll agree with these kinds of things without knowing it. It’s stupid not to read the privacy and any other policies that can be found on a site, but it’s like reading manuals: you don’t read them unless you have to.

MemberThat black window you described is that I get too when I view a webcam on Trillian that is sent out with Yahoo. It might be due to something found on http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mesg/webcams/webcams-20.html
I couldn’t find anything else on Yahoo’s site about black screens or anything else that might be of help for this topic. Makes sense seeing how the problem isn’t with Yahoo but Trillian and their interaction. On the Trillian support forums this problem with the webcams has been reported a couple times (I just checked) and it does seem to be related to Yahoo changing the compression for the webcam stream.

MemberI like the idea behind the app, but nobody’s been able to connect to it (probably ZoneAlarm being a PITA again) so I uninstalled it for now.
Also, MSN Messenger for XP has a webcam feature built in if I’m not mistaken. The only problem there is that I don’t have XP and you can’t install XP Messenger on anything but XP.

MemberJeff, it’s on my site: http://www.frutzle.com in the menu as “The WebCam. I made it a pop-up so I wouldn’t have to make an entire page for it.
Also, I’m using the server space I got from my ISP for the webcam. Haven’t had any problems the last two days but it’s probably server congestion when I can’t FTP the images because a lot of personal websites are put on that server

The cam is on pretty much all day long and pointed outside (ohhh another traffic cam
) , but in the evenings I usually turn it off for my site and put it online on Yahoo.Roland

MemberRight now I’m using visionGS which is completely free and does offer what I want right now. I’ve also found Webcam32 by Surveyor (http://www.surveyor.com) which is, again, paid software.
The only problem I have is that the FTP server doesn’t always seem to be able to handle the uploading of the new images even with a 3 minute refresh

Oh, one thing I find very useful about visionGS is that when I close the program, it uploads one last image which will show until the program is started again (telling people that the cam is offline).

MemberI downloaded that CoffeeCup WebCam software’s trial version. The image is just too small to see anything so I uninstalled it right away.
Decided to give visionGS PE 1.21 another try and hot-diddley-dang, it worked. It seems that with a 20-second image upload the FTP server can’t handle it and crashes or something so now the cam is down again
. I’ll put it to a 2 minute refresh and see what happens then.I’ll look into the WME too. Thanks.

MemberWell, a quick update: I just gave visionGS PE 1.21 a try, but it won’t work for me. It won’t upload the images (haven’t tested streaming media as I couldn’t get the upload to work) and the help files are not clear to me.
I wanted to test NOWencoder, but after installing I immediately got the message that my licence is expired and I should go download the latest version.
Not exactly the right way to get people to use your software.
On another note: on their site, none of the demo webcams seemed to work. It’s nice to have a chat with it (at least that’s what I think you get), but if the cams don’t work…. lolTime to search for other software.

MemberI just bought a Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000 today for about $75. I agree that it’s a darn good piece of hardware, but can’t say I like the software.
I was hoping that it’d include software to put a live feed on my site but no such thing. I could sign up for spotlife.com’s free trial and use that. What’s the point? I’d finally get people visiting my site and then I’d tell them to go look at some ugly page? Nope.
Dunno if you mind, but what software would you recommend for getting a live stream on my site? Preferably freeware, but if it has to be shareware, I want something good but still cheap (I can’t afford much right now).
